Springfield Technical Community College is looking for a part-time instructor for our CNC Operator Training Program, providing in-person instruction support for synchronous and asynchronous training as required. The candidate will provide a safe training and work environment, and must ensure that all OSHA and STCC safety procedures and regulations associated with the Mechanical Engineering Technology (MET) training facility are adhered to by students and staff. The candidate selected will be responsible for instructing and preparing our students in Computer Numerical Control (CNC) operations and will provide high-quality training and instruction to students in the theory, operation, programming, and maintenance of CNC machines. This role requires a deep understanding of CNC machinery, excellent teaching abilities, and the capacity to inspire and guide students towards achieving technical proficiency and success in the program.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The instructor will:
Follow the established curriculum and course content, providing instruction in multiple modalities; lectures, hands-on instruction, asynchronous and online as required.Develop and deliver comprehensive CNC machining curriculum content, as needed.Create a learner-centered classroom and lab environment providing differentiated instruction based on student needs.Create and update course materials, lesson plans, and instructional guides and share with students electronically and the class learning management system (Blackboard).Provide continuous evaluation of training effectiveness to ensure that students learn the specific skill sets and knowledge needed to successfully complete the course and obtain related credentialing and or certifications to obtain employment in the manufacturing industry as a CNC Operator.Instruct students to operate, program, and maintain CNC machines including lathes, mills, and routers.Provide hands-on training along with practical demonstrations on CNC equipment.Ensure students understand and comply with all safety protocols and procedures.Stay current with industry advancements and incorporate new technologies and methods into the curriculum.Keep accurate attendance, grade, and skills information as required by Workforce Development and STCC.Design and implement assessments to evaluate student progress and proficiency.Monitor student progress, provide feedback, and adjust teaching methods to accommodate diverse learning styles, provide mentoring and guide students, providing individual assistance to support their learning and development.Foster a positive and engaging learning environment that is focused on student success and retention.Ensure all CNC equipment and tools are properly maintained and in safe working condition.Manage the CNC lab or workshop, including inventory control and ordering of supplies.Collaborate with colleagues, industry partners, and other stakeholders to enhance training programs.Participate in professional development opportunities to stay informed about industry trends and advancements.Work collaboratively with other instructors and/or tutors.Compiles and reports grade-related information in line with Workforce Development and STCC requirements.Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
One year experience as a teacher or related field as a trainer, instructor in the content area.Associate's degree or higher in CNC machining, manufacturing technology, or a related field.Proficiency with using business applications for communications for Email, Word Processing, Spreadsheet, and Presentation applications with either Microsoft Office or Google Suite of applications.At least 3 years of industry experience CNC machining, manufacturing technology, or a related in a related discipline.Must have and demonstrate excellent conceptual skills, process improvement techniques, written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate functional technical topics in the areas of machine controls and instrumentation, tooling, project coordination, and material inventory.CNC certification (NIMS) or equivalent completion of a formal apprenticeship or training.Skilled and knowledge of setup CNC controls and equipment experience operating production manufacturing machines.Ability to train and demonstrate operating procedures to students in the following areas.
Related computer technology training working with online systems e.g., Tooling U, and proficiency working with online CNC application software.Knowledge of SPC (Statistical Process Control) and the ability to adjust machines to a chart.Must have math skills equal to that used in a machining environment.Setting-up CNC equipment and Operation, set up of CNC vertical and horizontal milling machines with 4 and 5 axes, and lathes with multiple axis.Loading feed mechanism.Verifying settings and Interpretation of CMM reports and adjusting CNC accordingly.Maintaining safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations.Maintaining equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements.Managing multiple students (worker positions with the ability to manage a normal workload of operating 6-10 CNC machines.Documenting actions by completing production and quality logs.Working with all floor instructors to maintain a collaborative training environment and meeting course schedules and standards.Demonstrate Quality Control techniques with metrology, ability to instruct and lead discussions.

* Register students into appropriate academic coursework, to include registration activities such as add/drop consequent to course withdrawal advising;
* Collaborate with and make referrals as needed to Retention Specialists and other appropriate academic and student services personnel to address potential barriers to academic student success;
* Actively participate in various enrollment and career alignment events, including open houses, enrollment events, program orientations, and commencement;
* Work occasional evening and weekend hours as coordinated with the Director of Advising, Career & Transfer during peak enrollment periods typically in August and January, or support enrollment and advising events as needed.

General Statement of Duties: The Staff Associate, Postdoctoral Researcher in Star Formation and Magnetic Fields will conduct research in collaboration with Dr. Ian Stephens at Worcester State University (WSU). The incumbent will work with data from the Stratospheric Observatory for Infrared Astronomy (SOFIA). Part of the funding is to build a single, unified dataset of all HAWC+ polarization data for star-forming regions. Other funds will be used to analyze HAWC+ polarization data to understand the magnetic fields of specific regions in the Gould Belt. Funding is available for 2 years, with a third year possible if more funding is secured. The WSU postdoc will also have an opportunity to collaborate at the Center for Astrophysics | Harvard & Smithsonian. The preferred start date is September, but other start dates are possible as well.

1. Proctor quizzes, tests and exams taken by students who are registered with Student Accessibility Services and have approved test accommodations.
2. Closely monitor administration of exams. Do not leave the exam location during designated hours.
3. Immediately report any sign of violation of the University's academic integrity policy.
4. Attend a mandatory training session.
5. Follow SAS protocols regarding exam accommodations and administration.
6. Coordinate and communicate with SAS Clerk and Graduate Assistant.
7. Read exams verbatim to students with corresponding accommodation.
8. Scribe student answers verbatim on to exams for students with corresponding accommodation.

2. Demonstrated executive functioning skills.
3. Must be reliable, dependable and responsible.
4. Commitment to the values and goals of Student Accessibility Services and Worcester State University.
