Springfield Township company history timeline

1807

The history of Springfield Township began in 1807.

1809

Ellet (or Springfield Center), boasted the first church building in the North Springfield Presbyterian Church built in 1809.

1835

The first post office was located in the Village of Springfield on the Detroit to Saginaw Trail in 1835.

1836

Springfield Township was established on March 2, 1836 by the Legislature of the State of Michigan.

1837

The first Township meeting was held in the spring of 1837.

1840

Springfield Township is unique in the fact that it has been part of three counties; originally part of Trumbull County, it became attached to Portage county and was maintained in this relation until the new county of Summit was established in 1840.

1856

The Detroit and Milwaukee Railroad now Canadian National was built in 1856.
