    SUMMARY: The classroom teacher regardless of race, creed, or disability is primarily responsible for the educational program in the classroom as well as promoting family involvement in the classroom. Through training and other activities, the teacher will provide a creative atmosphere for the growth and development of the total child. Location: Apple Orchard Site, Springfield, IL ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1. Signs in and out upon arrival and departure from any Head Start site. 2. Timely daily arrival. 3. Greets children and parents as well as other co-workers with a warm approach. 4. Helps to assist each child in meeting developmental needs and assists in developmentally appropriate skill building in areas such as gross motor, self-help, social/emotional development, cognitive and communication skills. 5. Works closely with all Specialists and Coordinators to ensure children's files are complete. 6. Prepares and completes a weekly lesson plan with the Teacher Assistant. 7. Prepares and conducts home visits and conferences involving the Teacher Assistant. 8. Administers the on-going assessments for each child using Work Sampling Illinois. 9. Prepare materials used in the daily program with staff. 10. Plan and arrange the room to meet the needs of the children utilizing guidelines provided by the Creative Curriculum, and Early Learning Standards and Head Start Performance Standards. 11. Ensure all classroom equipment is in good repair for safe play by the children. 12. Inventory all equipment in the beginning of the year and at the close of the program. 13. Set and enforce a positive standard of conduct for children and parents. 14. Keeps daily records such as attendance, on-going assessment, and anecdotal as required by the Performance Standards and the Education Coordinator and Site Manager. 15. Supervise indoor and outdoor play very closely while interacting with the children. 16. Work closely with staff in serving meals family style,eating with the children each meal service while modeling and discussing good nutrition practices. 17. Supervise and assist the children with bathroom activities. 18. Requisition supplies for the classroom as needed, using the proper form. 19. Responsible for overall administration of the classroom. Keeping the room clean and orderly. 20. Works with families in planning and coordinating activities and field trips. 21. Must attend all workshops, in-service training and staff meetings as well as other assigned meetings/training requested by the Site Manager, Education Coordinator or the Head Start Director. 22. Consult the Site Manager on problems that may occur at the site. 23. Plan and carry out parent/teacher conferences two (2) times a year as directed by the Site Manager. 24. Work with the Disability Specialist in planning staffing on special needs children. 25. Assist in recruitment throughout the year. 26. Notify the Site Manager of any emergency and accident. 27. Complete a minimum of (2) home visits per program year as required with additional home visits documented as necessary. 28. Report three day absences to the Site Manager while documenting three (3) attempts to contact the family. 29. Ensure that proper child to staff ratios are consistently maintained in the classroom. Alert the Site Manager to any difficulties and lapse in full classroom enrollment. 30. Construct 4 homemade games, with instructions, for classroom usage each year, one per quarter, involving the classroom assistants in development. 31. Employee will comply with the policies and procedures for bus monitoring. Bus monitoring services will consist of (but not limited to) securing all children in seat belts, taking attendance, securing authorized signatures when releasing the child from the bus. Employee will also maintain control and ensure the safety of the children on the bus at all times. 32. Completes required paperwork in a timely basis. 33. Post approved lesson plans weekly ensuring all needed materials are available for implementation. 34. Involve the Teacher Assistant in lesson plan development. 35. Encourage the enrollment of families with diverse backgrounds. Be able to understand the needs and interests of individuals with various backgrounds and become fluent in the languages spoken by the families in the program. QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Must ensure that all center-based teachers have at least an associate's or bachelor's degree in child development or early childhood education, equivalent coursework, or otherwise meet the requirements of section 648A(a)(3)(B) of the Act. Must meet the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) Licensing Standards. 2. Willing to accept supervision and assignments as required. 3. Knowledge of the operation of the program. 4. Must be able to lift at least 40 pounds. 5. Must be in good physical health. 6. Relates well with children, staff and parents. 7. Must complete DCFS required training courses, Illinois Gateway Registry, all Head Start workshops and in-service trainings which also includes United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) training. 8. A Food Service/Sanitation Certificate (Optional). 9. Must have reliable transportation, current driver license and must show proof of insurance required by the State of Illinois 10. Ability to pass a medical exam certifying freedom from communicable diseases and illegal substances. 11. Obtain and maintain First Aid and CPR cards. Job Description - Bus Driver 21st Century SUMMARY: The position of Bus Driver for the 21st Century program is responsible for maintaining compliance and safety in transporting children to and from the 21st Century program daily. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Signs in/out daily when arriving and departing any Springfield Urban League location. Must utilize ADP Payroll Software for the inputting of time entries for payroll. Driver is responsible for the entries and updates to the routes in Child Plus. The driver shall not leave the bus unattended at any time while transporting children. Pick up children on time and deliver them to designated areas in a safe and efficient manner. Return children to their homes at the end of the day. Responsible for ensuring that each child is safely taken across any street crossing by the bus monitor, as needed. Transport children to the centers or prearranged locations such as field trips. Make certain good order is maintained in the vehicle for the safety of the children. Ensure that the bus is never over capacity at any time. This also includes ensuring the staff to student ratio is in compliance. At all times, there is always one monitor on the bus when transporting students. Timely daily arrival at center-based locations and family day activities. The bus shall always be maintained in excellent condition including the interior and exterior of the unit. The bus is inspected daily by the driver for mechanical or other flaws utilizing the State of Illinois Department of Transportation check-off sheets. Bus maintenance is completed as requested by the Transportation Manager and mechanic. Must attend in-service training and workshops at request of the Transportation Manager. Drivers must not smoke or allow smoking, drink, or allow drinking on the bus at any time. No food is allowed on the bus. Driver is responsible for ensuring the bus is transported to the State Testing Center when the inspection is due. The driver is also responsible for maintaining the brake testing for the bus. Conducts and documents safety drills/evacuations monthly submitting documentation to the Transportation Manager. Willing to cooperate with other staff members. Completes the following and submits on a timely basis to the Transportation Manager a. Daily Bus Mileage Records b. Receipts for Gas Purchases c. Monthly Evaluation Drills 20. Completes a full bus walk through, from front to back prior to exiting the bus after each completed route to ensure no child has been left (i.e., sleeping, hiding, etc.) Ensures that the monitor completes bus sign-off sheets daily and child drop-offs are on an emergency document designating appropriate adult(s) for each child. Utilizes the bus radio to inform the central office of pick-up, drop-off complications and informs the central office of run completion prior to exiting the bus. Check the mailbox at the driver's assigned Springfield Urban League Inc. location in the a.m. and p.m. for any updates. Driver must maintain an Active School Bus Driver Permit including Annual School Bus Driver Permit including DOT Certification, Annual School Bus Driver Physical and participate in the Annual Refresher Course. QUALIFICATIONS: Ability to drive well and safely, meeting all requirements of the State of Illinois Department of Transportation. Must possess a CDL license and school bus (SBP) endorsement. At least one year of driving experience. Ability to work well with children, staff, parents, and others. Ability to pass a medical examination certifying freedom from communicable diseases and illegal substances. Must meet personnel and health qualifications required by the State of Illinois Department of Transportation. Obtain and maintain First Aid/CPR cards.     MAINTENANCE WORKER SUMMARY: The position of Maintenance Worker regardless of race, creed, or disability is responsible for building and grounds maintenance at all requested Head Start sites in Sangamon and Morgan Counties. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Signs in/out daily when arriving and departing any Head Start site. Cleans the building, including kitchen area, all offices, conference room, classrooms and bathrooms daily including removing garbage and dusting furniture as requested. Assists in any other areas as needed. Wax and clean uncarpeted floors monthly as requested. Clean windows inside as needed. Assist at all classrooms, when needed or maintenance is requested. Check and make minor repairs on all equipment. Report to the Site Manager on any major problems with electrical appliances and repairs. Check centers weekly and replace any parts that are needed, such as lights, etc. Get all painting in the centers completed as needed. Attend all meetings required by the Maintenance Coordinator. Must maintain sites in accordance to health, fire, and DCFS requirements. See that all equipment is working properly. Ensure that all exit lights and ceiling lights are in working order and fire extinguishers are up-to-date. Ensure all sidewalks are clear of snow and ice at all times. Ensure that outside areas and ground around the building and parking lots are kept clean and free of debris. Clean carpets of classrooms twice a year or as requested. Must vacuum all building carpets daily. Must keep bathrooms clean and sanitized; check to see if any supplies are needed, and replace the same day. The janitor room must be kept clean at all times, and equipment put up daily or after each use. No cleaning equipment or materials shall be left unlocked at anytime. Wipe walls as needed. Must ensure that trash hauling service removes trash - once or twice weekly according to contract. Must see that the building is secured - all doors properly shut and outdoor tricycles, etc. stored nightly. Other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS: Must have reliable transportation. Must be able to communicate in a positive manner. Must be punctual and willing to work overtime if needed. Must work and relate well with children, parents, and staff. Ability to pass a medical examination certifying freedom from communicable diseases and illegal substances. Ability to pass a background check. Must have a positive attitude toward direction. Consults with staff on child abuse and neglect issues and fulfills mandated reporter duties per State of Illinois laws. 26. Maintains confidentiality and professionalism at all times. 27. Employee will comply with the policies and procedures for bus monitoring. Bus monitoring services will consist of (but not limited to) securing all children in seatbelts, taking attendance, securing authorized signatures when releasing the child from the bus. Employee will also maintain control and ensure the safety of the children on the bus at all times. 28. Performs other duties as assigned, with consideration given to the priority of direct services to families. QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Minimum Educational Standards: A credential or certification in social work, human services, family services, counseling or a related field. Desired Educational standards: Bachelor's Degree in social services or related field. 2. Ability to communicate and work well with parents, children, staff, and community agency personnel 3. Ability to pass a medical examination identifying freedom from communicable disease 4. Ability to lift at least 40 pounds 5. At least 21 years of age 6. Must have a current Illinois Driver's License, reliable transportation for self and others for use in program activities, and proof of car insurance required by the State of Illinois 7. Willingness to learn and uphold Springfield Urban League Head Start Policies and Procedures and have a positive attitude toward direction 8. Must meet the State of Illinois Department of Children and Family Services Licensing Standards for working at a Head Start Center 9.
