On November 24, 1949, less than three years after his first visit, Alex Cushing opened Squaw Valley.
1954
The Hall of Fame Museum, established in 1954, is located on the Hall of Fame campus in Ishpeming.
1956
PAST INDUCTION SKIING HISTORY WEEK SITESThe United States Ski and Snowboard Hall of Fame has been honoring athletes and sport builders annually since 1956.
1958
In 1958, during the construction of the first Olympic Village, the Olympic Committee asked Walt Disney an avid skier to become the Chairman of the Pageantry Committee for the games.
1960
Since 1960, Squaw Valley has continued to thrive and is consistently ranked among the world s top resorts.
Squaw Valley will provide a fitting backdrop for the various events, with the legacy of the 1960 Winter Games and the long lineage of celebrated athletes, including more current United States Ski Team members than any other resort in the country.
The 1960 Olympic Games would be televised through CBS for the first time and the Committee knew making it a memorable event required special creative talent.
1961
Alpine Meadows was founded in 1961 by a group of avid skiers from San Francisco who discovered the potential at Alpine Meadows while skiing at neighboring Squaw Valley.
2011
The two resorts combined in 2011 under the parent company KSL Capital Partners LLC and the management company Squaw Valley Ski Holdings.
2017
Rounding out the Class of 2017 is the local motor sport and snowboard pioneer Shaun Palmer, and Thom Weisel a passionate fund raiser for the United States Ski Team whose work over four decades helped to bring home more than 200 Olympic and World Championship medals.
The announcement of the 8 members of the incoming class of 2017 was made on Friday, September 15th in Ishpeming, MI.Eight people have been elected to the Hall of Fame this year.
More than 500 are expected to attend the installation of the class of 2017 s 8 inductees.
2018
The Ski and Snowboard Hall of Fame induction will take place at The Resort at Squaw Creek in the Grand Sierra Ballroom on Saturday, April 14, 2018.
