Summary/Objective
The Austin Company performs design-build work for industrial and specialized commercial markets. The Electrical Intern actively works with in-house engineers, architects, and construction departments to assist with ongoing functions. The Corporate and Institutional Law Practice (C&I) in BMS/OLS is seeking a Legal Intern to support its work. Description of Responsibilities:

You'll work with a cross-functional group of Designers, Product Managers and Engineers to research, design, prototype, and deliver compelling digital experiences that help the broader public understand the work the ACLU is doing and understand how they can support it.
The focus of this internship will be specifically focused on contributing to the execution, strategy, and documentation of our developing Design System for ACLU.org across platforms. The Design System involves the intersection of UX best practices, UI pattern, branding guidelines, engineering efficiency, and accessibility best practices that shape the overall experience of ACLU.org.
Your Day to Day
Create: Design and modify web features (components), from base-level elements to working prototypes, to align with the ACLU Design System and branding guidelines, across all platforms and devices.
Document: Write detailed technical specifications and documentation for Design System components, including accessibility guidelines.
Strategize: Collaborate with other ACLU Product Designers to determine strategies for componentization across ACLU.org in order to meet all use case needs and brand guidelines requirements.
Test: Participate in Quality Assurance testing for components before they are launched on ACLU.org, including testing for accessibility compliance.
Train: Support the ACLU Design Team on trainings for non-Designers focused on the importance and usage of a Design System.

Program Details

This nine-week program will run June 1, 2026 through July 31, 2026, operating on a full-time, in-person schedule, Monday through Friday, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Interns will be placed in one of the Office's specialized bureaus and will receive direct supervision, mentorship, and training from an Assistant District Attorney.
Job Responsibilities:
Through our Student Practice Order, eligible interns may have the opportunity to appear on the record at arraignments, calendar calls, hearings, and trials. Interns will observe and assist with witness interviews, hearings, and trials; listen to and transcribe 911 calls; and review police reports. They will also participate in the decision-making process regarding offers and assist with plea negotiations.
Interns will engage in a rigorous and dynamic training program that includes lectures led by members of the criminal justice community and participation in several simulated practicums throughout the summer. Every effort will be made to provide each intern with a substantive writing assignment that may be used as a future writing sample in job searches.
In addition, interns will benefit from robust networking opportunities designed to support their professional development and career growth. These opportunities may include small-group conversations with Assistant District Attorneys, panels featuring senior leadership, exposure to specialized units across the Office, and meet-and-greets with members of the broader criminal justice community. These engagements allow interns to build meaningful connections, explore potential career paths, and gain deeper insight into the work of a large urban prosecutor's office.
Please note: Applicants will be required to submit their first-semester law school transcript prior to the extension of any internship offer. Instructions for submitting the transcript will be provided during the application process.
Qualifications:
Current Law Student: 1L's-JD class of 2028
Completion of a Criminal Law class
Demonstrated interest in public service, criminal law, and litigation.

Program Details
Internship will be approximately 3-4 months (May/June -August 2026)
A minimum of 20 hours, but more hours can be available if appropriate.
The program includes a collaborative 2-week charrette in July working on a project in Berkely, Ca (travel and lodging will be covered, if needed, during the charrette)
You will be required to work in-person at one of our California offices. Please note, lodging is not covered for anytime outside of the charrette.
