1816

Ridgewell vicarage (Essex) was bought in 1542 and augmented in 1816.

1844

He made a name for himself as a botanist, his botanical research being so outstanding that a Ray Society was established in 1844.

1852

Created in response to the recommendation of a Royal Commission in 1852, this was established as part of an expansion of the university so that male students would be able to gain an Oxford education without the costs of college membership.

1860

There was no alteration in these statutes until 1860, when a new code amalgamated the original foundation and that of Mrs.

2) and the standard works which were likely to interest the clerics who formed the majority of the fellows before 1860.

1861

In 1861, however, there took place the greatest disaster in the history of the College, from which it did not recover until after the First World War.

1868

The college traces its descent from the Scholares Non Ascripti, or Delegacy for Unattached Students, founded by Statute on 11 June 1868.

1869

In 1869 an oriel window was added to the south-east end of the hall, and the windows of this part of the court were taken out and replaced by others with Gothic tracery.

1882

In 1882 new statutes were imposed whereby the statutory number of fellows was reduced to six and the dividend to £250.

1884

In 1884, the delegacy was renamed the "Delegacy for Non-Collegiate Students". Due to the lack of an identifying name for social and sporting purposes, groups identified with the delegacy began using the name "St Catharine's", taken from a hall used for boat club meetings on Catte Street.

1887

The Minneapolis campus was founded in 1887 by the Sisters of St Joseph of Carondelet as St Mary’s School of Nursing, later named St Mary’s Junior College.

1894

Norman and Beard, installed when the chapel furnishings were partly renewed in 1894, but rebuilt by Messrs.

1900

Had it not been for this gift St Catharine's, a small and poor foundation, would never have survived the continuous fall in values since the foundation; even with it so good a judge as G. F. Browne, Bishop of Bristol, thought in 1900 that amalgamation with another college would have been wise.

1905

Derham Hall opened in January 1905, offering classes to high school boarding students and lower-division college students.

St Catherine University (formerly the College of St Catherine) was founded in St Paul in 1905 by the Sisters of St Joseph of Carondelet, under the leadership of Mother Seraphine Ireland.

1911

Upper-division college courses were first offered during the 1911–12 academic year.

1913

In spring 1913, Bachelor of Arts degrees were conferred on the first two students to complete four years at the new institution.

1914

By 1914, more than 4,000 men had matriculated as non-collegiate students.

1918

The number of fellows has more than doubled. It is difficult to describe the transformation that has come over St Catharine's since 1918.

1919

Fellowships were founded in 1473, 1478, 1503, 1506, and 1515, after which there were none founded except byefellowships until 1919.

1920

John Withers, a King's man who founded a celebrated firm of London solicitors, was elected a fellow in 1920 because of his services to the College in business matters.

1921

St Catharine's in 1921 put itself under new statutes at its own request.

1934

York Herald in 1934 informed the bursar that the correct arms are, Gules, a Catharine wheel Or.

1936

First published in: 1936

1937

In fall 1937, St Kate’s became the first Catholic college or university in the United States, and the third Minnesota institution, to be awarded a Phi Beta Kappa chapter.

1951

Woodlark Building, a block corresponding to Hobson's Building, was erected in 1951 on the site of the old porter's lodge, making the College archi- tecturally complete.

The washing and repair of the main court carried out in 1951–2 enabled visitors to form an estimate of the skill, one might say genius, of the 17th-century builders.

1952

The fourth side of the court is open to the north end of Trumpington Street, separated from it by a low wall with railings, which were restored in 1952 along with the handsome gate in the centre.

1953

The present statutes were granted in 1953.

1956

The society was thus developing the characteristics of a college, and in 1956 the delegates decided to formalise this change in status by obtaining approval to turn into a fully residential college.

1957

Edwin Ernest Rich: 1 July 1957.

1960

By 1960 Sir Alan Bullock raised a further £1,000,000 with invaluable assistance from two industrial notables, Sir Alan Wilson (whom he met by chance on the RMS Queen Mary) and Sir Hugh Beaver.

1962

After a total expenditure of £2.5 million, the college opened in 1962.

1966

In 1966 a major rebuilding project took place under the Mastership of Professor E. E. Rich, creating a new larger hall, new kitchens and the accommodation between St Catharine's and King's College.

1974

In 1974, St Catz was one of the first men's colleges to admit women as full members, the others being Brasenose, Jesus College, Hertford and Wadham.

2007

St Kate’s strengthened its commitment to excellence in healthcare education in September 2007 with the launch of the Henrietta Schmoll School of Health.
