Position Overview
The Resident Assistant serves to ensure a safe, secure, healthy, clean, and positive environment for families as they make their transition from homelessness through after care. This position assists families in service plan implementation by obtaining and providing feedback regarding their progress toward service plan goals. Maintains respect, support, care, and a family atmosphere for residents of the facility and fellow staff members.
Position Requirements:
High School diploma / GED Equivalent, required.
Ability to obtain CPR/First Aid Certification within 90 days from date of hire, required.
Local travel is required; A current Clean & Valid New York State Driver's License (actively licensed at least one year) - is required*.
Ability to work with clients with mental health issues, substance abuse and developmental disabilities.
Knowledge of community resources is beneficial.
Previous experience working in a human services agency is a plus!
Proficiency in computer applications: Microsoft Office & Google Business Workspace Suite; and use Secure Internet practices.
Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills; Capable of building strong working relationships with regulatory bodies.
Self-motivated and engaged, with a strong attention to detail; Excellent writing aptitude.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities include:
Meets regularly with families to assist with service plan goals, offering education and instruction on daily living skills; Empowering residents to identify better choices in their daily lives.
Ensures a safe, secure and healthy environment for all residents.
Performs routine and ad hoc documentation, using critical incident reports, intake information forms, progress notes in case files, logs, etc.
Assists with orderly transition of families, from intake through discharge.
Intervenes in crisis situations and assists with conflict resolution, as needed, by providing mediation and facilitating communication.
Participates in professional development programming.
Transport clients in agency vehicles to various destinations throughout the Capital Region, based on families' needs.
Maintain CPR/First Aid Certification.
Additional position-related duties as assigned by the supervisor.

General Functions:
Under the direction of the Residence Director and Leadership, the Residence Security Staff is responsible to ensure the safety and well-being of residents and the YMCA Downtown property as a whole, by supervising the downtown property during non-facility hours. The incumbent will ensure safety as defined by internal emergency procedures and operating measures. The incumbent must balance support and accountability when developing productive partnerships with residents. Supervise the Downtown Y property during Residence Only hours of operation to monitor building occupancy and safety procedures.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The Resident Aide/Intake Coordinator supports client wellbeing by welcoming clients and providing a detailed assessment for any economic, social, vocational and/or mental or medical health barriers, and other appropriate services. The Resident Aide/Intake Coordinator assists with clients' basic needs while they are at the Emergency Shelter facility.
This is a 24-hour facility. The Resident Aide/Intake Coordinator is classified as an essential worker, and as such, they accept responsibility for the completion of their critical services to clients, on site, even during times of emergency. These include, but are not limited to, emergencies caused by weather, nationwide pandemics, civil unrest, and domestic threat.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES:
• Interviews and conducts assessments for incoming clients.
• Provides a facility tour and welcome packet.
• Overviews expectations for clients' code of conduct during their stay at the Emergency Shelter facility.
• Assists in the provision of diligent case management.
• Encourages self-sufficiency and independence while simultaneously providing support, as needed.
• Documents assessments and other service contacts in client record, according to funder requirements.
• Schedules meetings and has ongoing communication with members of the social service team.
• Assists with light housekeeping, receiving deliveries, stocking supplies, maintaining inventory records, dispensing toiletries, distributing mail and other general tasks related to clients' basic needs.
• Responsible for the food service area and delivering meals to clients.
• Assists with client activities.
• Assists with client transports.
• Maintains telephone coverage by answering phone calls in a timely manner and providing accurate information to callers.
• Performs other duties as assigned by the Shelter Director, Assistant Shelter Director (if applicable), Director of Social Services or Shift Leader(s).

QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION:
• High School Diploma or equivalent preferred
CERTIFICATION:
• Obtain certification for the Food Handler's License from the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene.
• Obtain and maintain the NYS Mandated Reporter certification.
• Adhere to all city funder training requirements.
EXPERIENCE:
• Minimum of 2 years in human services preferred.
• Working experience and knowledge of issues related to immigration, asylum seekers, homelessness, HIV, substance abuse, mental illness, entitlements, and domestic violence.
SKILLS & ABILITIES:
• Good spoken and written expression.
• Good time management skills, able to handle multiple tasks and assignments at once as well as adhere to the punctuality of a set schedule.
• Able to establish therapeutic relationships with clients and positive working relationships within LSSNY and with external agencies.
• Sensitive to intersectionality, different cultures, housing equality and a demonstrated ability to work within a social/racial justice framework.
