On adjoining land, presented by the Duke of Westminster, in 1898 the present fine building was erected to the designs of W.D.Caroe.
St George's (Hanover Square) Voluntary Aided Church of England Primary School still operates from the 1898 building in South Street, London W1.
Cecil Grant, to use his own words, "migrated" to the town in 1906 from Keswick in the Lake District.
Grant with most of the staff and many pupils moved to St George's in time for the beginning of the 1907 spring term.
In 1912 the school took its first board students and the following year St George's Training College became part of the school.
By 1914 the school had grown and needed space for over three hundred girls so it moved to a new, purpose built school on its present site in Ravelston and Murrayfield.
A Montessori unit was opened in 1917.
Capital campaigns were underway for war memorials and school buildings when, in 1922, the anonymous gift of a new school chapel was announced.
In 1939 the training college facility closed.
When the school finally reopened in October of 1944, restoration work was undertaken to bring it back into working order.
In 1947 a former St George's pupil, Mr.
Gedge in 1970, decisions by local and central government meant that the 3 secondary schools in Harpenden became all-ability five-form entry schools.
In the 1976, the neighbouring girls’ school, Lansdowne House, merged with St George’s.

The school marked its centenary in 2007 with a visit of Princess Anne, an expansion to 6 forms of entry, and a multi-million pound building development: the last likely for a while given the credit crunch and cuts in government capital spending.
After four successful years Mr McGovern moved to take up another Headship in Wales, to be replaced by one of his Deputy Heads Miss Helen Barton, who in 2017 became the School's first Headmistress.
