St. Joseph Manor Health Care company history timeline

1976

In 1976, guided by trends in healthcare, the long-term care facility transitioned to a Medicare-certified skilled nursing facility.

1978

The study further found that an additional 100 beds would be needed by 1978.

1980

1980s With changing medical and scientific technology and growth in the community, the hospital faced another expansion effort in the early 1980's.The first area of the hospital where expansion was needed was the nursery.

Plans were drawn up in 1980 to expand obstetric services.

1982

On December 12, 1982, ground broke on an $8.4 million expansion to include 48 patient care beds and the enlargement of Radiology, Intensive Care Unit, Nursery, Labor & Delivery, Laboratory, Surgery and Emergency Services.

1987

In 1987, St Joseph's growing role in overall healthcare in the Brazos Valley was recognized by updating the hospital's name to St Joseph Hospital & Health Center.

1990

On May 10, 1990, under the administration of Sister Angela Bontempo, the facility invoked the name of St Catherine Labouré Health Care Center.

1993

McAuley Residence opened in February of 1993 and is named after the foundress of the Sisters of Mercy, Catherine McAuley.

1994

The facility opened in 1994 and is dedicated to the memory of Monsignor Nelson Baker.

1996

In 1996, Navasota Hospital was purchased and renamed Grimes St Joseph Health Center.

1997

St Joseph Regional Rehabilitation Center opened in 1997.

1998

In 1998, St Joseph Services Corporation became known as St Joseph Health System and St Francis Health Center in Madisonville changed its name to Madison St Joseph Health Center.

Catholic Health was formed in 1998, at the urging of Bishop Henry J. Mansell, when several hospitals, nursing homes and clinics operated by religious orders, Catholic Charities and the Diocese of Buffalo came together under one organization.

As a hospital-based nursing facility, MNF became part of Catholic Health in 1998.

1999

St Joseph Health System opened both St Joseph Manor and Burleson St Joseph Manor in June of 1999.

2006

Following the release of New York State’s "Healthcare Facilities in the 21st Century" Report, also known as the Berger Commission, in 2006, St Joseph Hospital was slated for closure.

2008

Express Care opened its first location in South College Station in 2008 and the following year, the first freestanding Emergency Center in Bryan-College Station was opened.

2009

Sisters of Charity Hospital successfully merged with St Joseph Hospital in April 2009, forming a two-campus acute facility.

The LIFE Center was opened in November of 2009 and is housed on the main level of the Neighborhood.

Developed by Catholic Health's Continuing Care ministry, the supervisory role of LIFE was transferred to Catholic Health Home Care in 2009.

2013

In 2013, Bellville General Hospital joined St Joseph Health System.

2015

Mount St Mary's Hospital joined Catholic Health on July 1, 2015.

In 2015, a partnership between St Joseph Health System and Texas A&M Health Science Center formed with the Mature Well Senior Lifestyle Center project.

2018

In FY 2018, Catholic Health Initiatives and Dignity Health had combined revenues of $29.2 billion and provided $4.2 billion in charity care, community benefit, and unreimbursed government programs.

2019

St Joseph Health is part of CommonSpirit Health, a nonprofit, Catholic health system dedicated to advancing health for all people. It was created in February 2019 through the alignment of Catholic Health Initiatives and Dignity Health.
