Works under indirect supervision of the Resource Technician performing daily activities of the Sterile Processing Department, which include all aspects of the decontamination, assembly of sets, sterilization processes, and specialty cart restocking (CPR carts, Disaster Carts, Case Carts and Specialty carts). Ensures functions are performed with conscious regard to the procedures while interacting professionally with other departments within the system. The CSPDT (Central Sterile Processing Department technician) must have knowledge of: surgical instrumentation in regards to identification, cleaning, inspecting, testing, packaging and sterilization, operation of mechanical equipment for instrument cleaning and sterilization, infection control practices and preventative measures and regulatory agencies that govern sterile processing practices. High School diploma or equivalent and one to two years of previous work-related experience are required. Provisional certification is accepted, valid for up to 30 days or once 400 hours of hands-on experience are fulfilled. Certification from a NJDOH-recognized body such as CSPDT/HSPA (Healthcare Sterile Processing Association) is required. Completion and passing grade in an SPD training course or school are acceptable in lieu of one to two years of job experience. Basic math skills, including addition, subtraction, division, and multiplication, are necessary for the role.

Oversees retrieving contaminated supplies and delivering sterile supplies, maintaining inventory, and preparing sterile instrument trays for surgeries, examinations, and procedures. Adheres to Standard Precautions as appropriate, which may include: the use of protective barriers, as appropriate (e.g., gloves, masks, gowns, pocket masks, and/or safety glasses). 8. By reprocessing of endoscopes, they must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to preclean, leak test, decontaminate, inspect, disinfect, transport and store endoscopes in accordance with industry standards, guidelines and regulations and manufacturer's instructions for use. Job Function: 02. Demonstrates responsibilities as an endoscopy technician by providing assistance to the nurses and physicians during procedures. Assists with all types of endoscopic procedures, including emergencies, utilizing endoscopes, accessories, and any therapeutic equipment needed for the procedure. Assist in obtaining biopsy specimens and polyps as directed by the physician and under the direct supervision of an RN. N/A for endoscope reprocessing only technicians. Job Function: 03. Maintains a professional working relationship with all members of the unit as well as the physicians. Promotes positive public relations for the hospital by establishing a good working relationship with external sources and departments. Seeks guidance from peers and management whenever needed. Receptive to change and constructive feedback. Maintains accurate records and logs related to the reprocessing scopes and QA monitoring. Observes and maintains isolation precautions; maintains standard precautions on all patients. Follows hand washing guidelines. Utilizes two patient identifiers when caring for patients. Provides and maintains safety and comfort measures for the patients- making sure the bed is in the lowest possible position, side rails up and stretchers locked. Appropriately labels and bags specimens for transport to the lab. Properly handles all dirty equipment to prevent any cross-contamination. Helps to maintain a neat and safe environment by making sure the hallways are free from clutter, the linen and endoscope storage closet is well maintained. Working under the direction of the Manager, supervises sterile processing personnel performing all the daily activities of the Sterile Processing department, which include but are not limited to decontamination, assembly and counting of instrument sets, all methods of sterilization , maintaining specialty carts (CPR carts, disaster carts, Case Carts, Latex Allergy carts, GU carts) . Performs functions with conscious regard to procedures while interacting professionally with other departments within the system. Must have extensive knowledge of all operational aspects of a Sterile Processing department and be able to perform the following: identification, cleaning, inspection, testing, packaging, and sterilization of surgical instruments, operation of mechanical equipment used for cleaning and sterilization, working knowledge of all Regulatory and Infection Control policies and practices that govern CSPD (Central Sterile Processing Department), knowledge of ordering and inventory control, knowledge of medical terminology to identify surgical procedures, the ability to collect and analyze data and computer skills. Work requires a High School diploma or equivalent and one to two years of previous work related experience. Sterile Processing Technician Certification or higher by a NJDOH (New Jersey Department of Health) recognized certification body (Certification Board for Sterile Processing (CBSPD/International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management (IAHCSMM). At least two years' prior experience as a certified technician working in all aspects of decontamination and sterilization processes and completion of a SPD training course or equivalent. Responsible for performing the technical functions of endoscopic nursing practice under the direct supervision of a registered nurse. Work requires a High School diploma or equivalent and less than two years of basic technical or occupationally-specific training as an endo technician and no previous experience plus three to six months of on-the-job training and education. Work requires the ability to resolve problems that require the use of basic scientific, mathematical, or technical principles. Work requires the ability to exchange information on factual matters, schedule appointments, record vital signs in patients' charts, greet visitors, explain Hospital policies, and/or relay patients' needs to appropriate personnel.
