The Quantum AI for Bio (QAI4Bio) Lab led by Dr. Christoph Gorgulla in the Center of Excellence for Data-Driven Discovery in the Structural Biology Department, seeks a skilled and highly motivated student intern in quantum computing/quantum machine learning for problems in the life sciences (chemistry, biology, drug discovery). Our research group is focused on developing state-of-the-art computational methods for ligand/drug discovery, using machine learning, high-performance/cloud computing, and quantum chemistry and quantum computing. Our group also includes a wet lab dedicated to experimentally verifying the computationally predicted results in real-world drug discovery projects.
We are seeking a highly motivated student intern with deep expertise in machine learning and deep learning. You will join an interdisciplinary team to push the boundaries of what's possible at the intersection of artificial intelligence and molecular modeling.

Key learning objectives:
Design, implement, and optimize quantum computing/quantum machine learning methods for applications in drug discovery, biology, or quantum chemistry.
Integrate and deploy models into our computational discovery pipelines.
Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team of computational chemists, structural biologists, and experimental scientists.
Contribute to high-impact scientific publications and present research findings.
Study levels this internship would complement:
Actively enrolled as a student in a BS, MS, or PhD program at an accredited university.
Proven hands-on experience in quantum computing through projects, research, or previous internships.
Proficiency in at least one quantum computing software framework, such as Qiskit
Excellent programming skills in Python.
A degree (BS, MS, or PhD) in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Engineering, or a related discipline.
Optional: Familiarity with molecular modeling software (e.g., RDKit, OpenBabel) and/or structural biology concepts is desirable, but not required.
Optional: Experience with cloud or HPC environments and GPU-based training pipelines

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to lead collaborative projects, mentor junior scientists and students, and contribute to high-impact publications. The position can be a Postdoc position or a Computational Researcher position, depending on the preference of the candidate.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop and optimize quantum machine learning methods for problems in molecular modeling (e.g. drug discovery and/or quantum chemistry)
Collaborate with computational chemists, structural biologists, and experimental scientists within the QAI4Bio Lab and the broader Structural Biology Department.
Collaborate closely with domain scientists to define impactful research directions and translate theory into practice
Contribute to large-scale computational pipelines for tasks such as molecular property prediction, drug discovery, or quantum circuit design
Publish high-quality research in top-tier journals and conferences
Work with colleagues to deploy models into production research platforms or scientific software tools
Required Qualifications:
Proven hands-on experience (3+ years preferred) in quantum computing and quantum machine learning research and development
Proficiency in deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow.
Proficiency in quantum computing frameworks such as Qiskit, CUDA Q, Pennylane, ...
Excellent programming skills in Python.
Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, interdisciplinary environment
Preferred Qualifications:

Lead system upgrades and enhancements (test plans, IQ/OQ/PQ or equivalent, regression testing, cutover, and post-go-live monitoring).
Provide day-to-day support for pathology systems, ensuring their reliability and optimal performance.
Maintain access controls, permissions, and audit artifacts per institutional policy.
Actively participate and lead in meetings with cross-functional teams to elicit and understand business requirements.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure proper integration of new and existing laboratory instruments, applications, etc.
Adhere to change management processes-maintaining thorough documentation of validation testing, approvals, and implementation follow-up in accordance.
Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to instrument and application data interfaces and data transfer.
Monitor data integrity and validate the accuracy of data transferred between instruments/applications and LIS in accordance with current best practices.
Conduct analyses to report emerging business/system/process needs; escalate complex problems when required.
Track and drive resolution of needs and requests of teams within area, in coordination with laboratory teams and partner IT teams
Lead activities related to education of departmental teams around strategy, services, and capabilities, as well as change management, project management, and communication.
Maintain relationships with key stakeholders and vendors, serving as the frontline point of contact for customers.
Act as a mentor to junior analysts.
Perform other duties as assigned to meet the goals and objectives of the department and institution.
Maintains regular and predictable attendance.
Minimum Education and/or Training:
Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, business or related field required.
Master's degree preferred.
Minimum Experience:
Minimum requirement: 4+ years of experience in a comparable client-facing IT role
Experience working with structured Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) methodologies
Exposure to diverse business ecosystems of moderate complexity in pharma, healthcare, biotech and/or research organization preferred
Demonstrated history leading discussions and documenting resulting business and/or technical requirements, user stories and process flows
Experience translating business requirements to technical/system requirements
Demonstrated ability to work with mid to senior-level business leaders
Salary range: $86,320.00/yr.-$154,960.00/yr.
Compensation
In recognition of certain U.S. state and municipal pay transparency laws, St. Jude is including a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This is an estimate offered in good faith and a specific salary offer takes into account factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. We seek a highly motivated, clinician scientist candidate at the Associate or Member (Professor) level to serve as Director of the Division of Cancer Survivorship within the Department of Oncology at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
The candidate should have an MD, MD/PhD or DO degree and Board certified or Board-eligible in pediatric hematology-oncology with further experience in survivorship, a proven track of excellence in academic potential, a strong interest in clinical/outcomes research, and be an expert in clinical care of pediatric and adolescent patients surviving cancer. The preferred candidate should also have experience in mentorship and fellowship training within the academic setting, and in incorporating quality and/or process improvement into clinical practice.
This position will report directly to the Chair, Department of Oncology, lead clinical research, provide oversight and mentorship of division faculty. The Cancer Survivorship Division Director will oversee the After Completion of Therapy Clinic, which provides follow-up care for eligible 5-year survivor of childhood cancer treated at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and supports numerous research initiatives focused on characterizing and improving outcomes after childhood cancer.
The Department of Oncology is comprised of seven Divisions inclusive of Leukemia-Lymphoma, Neuro-oncology, Solid Tumor, Palliative Care & Quality of Life, Cancer Predisposition, Cancer Survivorship, and Molecular Oncology. The Department is also closely aligned with the St. Jude NCI-funded Comprehensive Cancer Center, with each Oncology Division providing the opportunity for translation of basic and translation research. The Division of Cancer Survivorship has strong collaboration with our Department of Epidemiology including collaboration in the ongoing St. Jude Lifetime Cohort Study and the Cancer Control and Survivorship Program with the St. Jude Comprehensive Cancer Center.
