Job Description
REPORTS TO: Artist Services Manager
Come and join our team during the exciting 2025/2026 season! We have returned to Powell Hall at the Jack C. Taylor Music Center and have an impressive lineup of concerts and guest artists planned for the entire season.
The St. Louis Symphony Orchestra Driver and Artist Servicing role ensures the safe, professional, and timely transport of guest soloists, conductors, and other visitors between airports, hotels, and Powell Hall for rehearsals and concerts. This role uses the SLSO vehicle and may use one's personal vehicle at times with mileage reimbursement. In addition, the role will include coordinating transport logistics and meals for guest artists and other miscellaneous artist and departmental support that varies based on the assignment.
This part time (temporary) position averages 20 hours per month, with the potential for additional hours during busy performance periods. Weekly hours are not guaranteed. Compensation is $18/hour.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Safely transport SLSO guest artists, conductors, and other visitors to and from designated locations.
Communicate with Artistic/Operations staff to coordinate and confirm transportation needs, schedules, and other artist support needed per assignment.
Represent the SLSO professionally in all interactions, ensuring a welcoming and respectful experience for all passengers.
Routine vehicle maintenance (e.g., oil changes, car washes, license plate renewals), reporting any issues to the Artist Services Manager.
Support Artistic/Operations department with miscellaneous tasks.
REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum age of 25 to meet legal requirements to rent a larger passenger van. This role may require transporting up to 14 passengers. Comfortable operating vehicles from sedan to large passenger van.
Valid Class E driver's license and clean driving record required; will need to provide copy of Class E driver's license and complete motor vehicle record (MVR) check prior to hire and every 6 months. SLSO may reimburse cost of obtaining Class E license if needed.
1-2 years'+ experience in customer service, hospitality or guest relations strongly preferred.
Professional demeanor and strong interpersonal skills. Ability to read social cues and adapt tone (e.g., quiet or conversational) to guest preferences.
Excellent knowledge of St. Louis roads, highways, and common traffic patterns.
Reliable and punctual, with the flexibility to work irregular hours, including evenings and weekends.
Strong organizational skills and ability to closely follow verbal and written instructions.
Ability to use Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).

As a key member of the Artistic Operations Department and full-time member of the stage crew, the Stage Manager is responsible for leading all stage crew activities (3-4 Full-time Stagehands and extra Stagehands as needed) related to the placement and movement of concert equipment and instruments for St. Louis Symphony Orchestra, Youth Orchestra, Symphony Chorus, IN UNISON Chorus, and rental events in the Jack C. Taylor Music Center, as well as select services outside the hall, including parks concerts, runouts and tours. This is a high-energy, fast-paced position requiring planning, organization, ability to manage work for multiple concurrent projects, and attention to detail. Teamwork and leadership are crucial to the success of this position. This position also requires the ability to maintain a positive work atmosphere by interacting and communicating in a manner that enhances collaboration with musicians, guest artists, co-workers, supervisors, customers, and vendors. This position requires a variable work schedule, regularly including evenings and weekends, and is a union position requiring membership in I.A.T.S.E. local No. 6 as defined in the collective bargaining agreement. RESPONSIBILITIES:
Organize, prepare and execute the placement and movement of equipment and instruments for orchestra rehearsals and concerts, as well as for hall rentals and non-orchestral events. Perform work for load-outs, load-ins and set-ups for services in Powell Hall, as well as tours, run-outs, and performances outside Hall. Perform routine maintenance as assigned.
Lead house crew (Assistant Stage Manager (Lighting), Assistant Stage Manager (Sound) and 4th Stagehand (if engaged for season), as well as extra stagehands. Ensure individual and crew work is consistently correct and completed on time. Promote and maintain a positive and professional environment within crew and with musicians, guest artists, co-workers, supervisors, customers, and vendors. Ensure stage crew is professional, productive, and responsive at all times; proactively address and correct any performance issues that arise during crew work; proactively report issues to SLSO Management. Teach and implement safety and security procedures/policies. Prepare and submit timesheets in timely fashion. Collect from and submit payroll paperwork for extra stagehands. Assist Technical Director with feedback for yearly performance reviews of house crew.
Construct, maintain and/or repair risers and other stage equipment as needed. Understand and build from design and technical drawings. Operate and maintain power and hand tools.
Operate and/or troubleshoot house lighting, sound, and video systems as needed. Instruct stagehands on basic operation of these systems as needed. Suggest equipment, methods, and/or modes of operation to improve quality and/or reduce costs.
For activity outside of the hall which require stage crew support, create and manage equipment and instrument lists, create and manage plan for use of instrument and equipment trunks, creating truck pack and planning documents, and provide feedback on schedule and equipment required as needed. Drive trucks as needed (box size up to 26ft).
As needed, prepare project proposals including equipment needed and labor estimates. As needed, assist with budget preparation for equipment, projects and maintenance. Maintain official physical and electronic organized files for stage crew portion of stage productions, tours, opera, SLSO sponsored events, venue rentals, etc., also including maintenance of inventory of stage and touring equipment in conjunction with the Production Manager. Read and respond to email. Maintain up-to-date calendar in Outlook. Attend scheduled meetings as needed. Perform other duties as directed.
REQUIREMENTS:
Extensive knowledge of concert production and stagecraft, including stage carpentry and basic rigging, operating power and hand tools, as well as basic knowledge of current lighting, sound, and video equipment. Knowledge of PC network environment using Microsoft Office applications is also required, knowledge of Mac environment a plus.
3 years' experience leading a team; minimum 5 years stage crew experience in a union setting. Lighting/sound/video experience a strong plus.
Experience in an orchestra setting highly desired.

The successful candidate for this position will join a dedicated team of scientists and support staff in the Herbarium to produce high-quality specimen data to serve urgent global needs in research, conservation, land management, and policymaking. In addition, staff hired in this position will participate in a curatorial mentorship program, attending workshops held by other Garden staff on botanical taxonomy, nomenclature, specimen curation, and collection management to develop their Herbarium skills and knowledge. This role requires excellent time management and interpersonal skills, a thoughtful and collaborative approach to problem solving, and a deep passion for plants. Initial core duties include pulling, barcoding, and imaging specimens, label data capture, data quality assurance (QA), and specimen filing. As HVAC - Refrigeration Engineer you will be responsible for all maintenance, repairs, projects and administration associated with the safe and efficient operation of the HVAC and Refrigeration Systems/Installations onboard and supervise the Refrigeration Assistant Engineers and the Air Conditioning Team.

**Responsibilities :**
HVAC
+ Operation, inspection, maintenance, repairs and performance of main A/C chiller plant, including five Carrier centrifugal compressors, associated salt, chilled and reheat water pumping systems and the supervisor system.
+ Operation, inspection, maintenance, repairs and performance of fan coil A/C chiller plant, including two Carrier centrifugal compressors, associated salt, chilled and reat water pumping systems and the supervisor system.
Refrigeration
+ Operation, inspection, maintenance, repairs and performance of the central refrigeration system, including two brine chiller units for positive temperature system, associated support systems, plant control system and refrigeration box monitoring system, and two brine chiller units for positive temperature system, associated support systems, plant control system and refrigeration box monitoring system.
General
+ Refrigerant and glycol system pipe work and insulation integrity while targeting a zero gas and glycol leakage tolerance. Prompt identification and correction of any inadvertent leakage. The monitoring and recording of gas consumption as required under EPA rules.
+ Undertaking work, both front and back of house, to a standard which sees to Guest and Crew satisfaction while maintaining Show Quality Standards (SQS) and seeking to continually improve GSM ratings regarding air conditioning/refrigeration performance and guest service recovery.
+ Proficient use of AMOS to forecast, implement and record all work undertaken and all spares/consumables required for use and stock.
+ Proficient use of AIMS system to forecast, respond to and record all work relating to Guest and Crew area deficiencies. Work orders are closed out in a timely fashion with feedback being provided as necessary.
+ Oversees and participates in work/training by contractors who may board the vessel on a regular or as required frequency.
+ Identifies opportunities to improve operational efficiency of HVAC and refrigeration systems by means of operational procedures and equipment renewal and/or modification.
+ Maintains cleanliness and general condition of all work locations.
+ Maintains regular performance assessment on Officers and Crew reporting to this position. Administers coaching, counseling and discipline as necessary.
+ Interacts with Guests, Crew, contractors and shore personnel in a friendly and respectful manner to maintain/enhance the reputation and integrity of the Engineering Department.
**Basic Qualifications :**

+ EPA certification
+ Shipboard or maritime industry experience
