St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office company history timeline

1905

The St Lucie County Clerk’s office was established when St Lucie County was carved out of Brevard County in 1905.

In 1905, St Lucie County was formed by an act of the Florida Legislature.

The county has had 11 Sheriffs since 1905:

1915

Sheriff D.S. Carlton, who occupied the old house and jail on 2nd Street in Fort Pierce, was shot and killed in the line of duty in 1915.

1921

Sheriff WP. Monroe, while enforcing the prohibition laws involving rum runners, was killed in an unexplained boat explosion in 1921.

1924

On November 1, 1924, Sheriff Merritt and his men accosted them on the Sebastian Bridge and killed all five gang members, bringing to a close one of the most lawless eras in the county's history.

1961

He began serving as Clerk in 1961 and served until dying in office at the age of 69 on Dec.

2017

ST. LUCIE COUNTY — A man arrested in 2017 in what the St Lucie County Sheriff’s Office said at the time was the largest heroin bust in agency history was acquitted this week of drug charges, but found guilty of a weapons-related offense, according to attorneys and records.

2018

St Vil in December 2018 pleaded no contest to charges of possession of cocaine, possession of heroin and use or possession or drug paraphernalia, records show.
