The Catholic community rallied and rebuilt, and by 1869 there were 19 churches and chapels, seven schools, 12 priests, and 10,000 Catholics scattered throughout the state.
On March 11, 1870, the Diocese of St Augustine was created.
When St Raphael's Church was built in 1887, the families of Retsof felt moved to take up a collection members of the community and raised $100 as a donation towards the $3,000 cost of the new structure.

1914 - Father Joseph Collins appointed as the first pastor of Saint Luke the Evangelist Parish, with the congregation of 175.
1915 - Two story home purchased at 7237 Delta Street (just west of convent) to serve as church and rectory.
1949 - The school was rebuilt and expanded, doubling the room capacity.
THE LITTLE WHITE CHURCH ON THE PRARIE In 1973, Father Luke McLoughlin, then the pastor of Sacred Heart in Green Cove Springs, began holding masses for a small group of families in Middleburg.

It was well above 200 in July 1982 when the diocese officially created Saint Luke Parish and placed it under the spiritual guidance of Father Edward Rooney.
1982 - Parish Spiritual Renewal Movement begins its first season with more than 200 parishioners participating.
Patrick Rahill, administrator of the new mission and founding Pastor, on Saturday, May 11, 1985 in the Presbyterian Church on Nebraska Avenue.
Construction began January 20, 1986 on a building to meet the worship, social, educational needs of the community and by December 7, 1986 Bishop Larkin blessed the new parish facility.
Construction was completed in the first half of 1986 and Bishop John Snyder blessed the new church on May 11, which also happened to be Mother’s Day.
1989 - Parish celebrates 75th Anniversary.
Annunciation Catholic School opened in August 1993.
1993 - First parish auction held at Immaculate Conception hall.
An administration building, which also housed a media center and four classrooms, was built in 1995.
2002 - St Luke Parish establishes a capital campaign, "A Window to the Future" and raises over $300,000 to address various capital improvements and help the school funding.
St Luke Parish, as well as Clay County and Middleburg, continued to grow and by late 2002 it boasted more than 1,000 families.
2007 - After 91 years of education, St Luke's Parish School celebrated its final year.
There just wasn’t enough room in the church for the three weekend masses, special events, and the day-to-day work required to operate a parish of that size. It was during his retirement reception on June 27, 2010 that he was given a piece of immortality when the parish hall was renamed in his honor: Edward K. Rooney Parish Center.
12/17/2010 - Bishop Richard Pates announced formation of new parish in Ankeny IA. Also announced donation of 35 acres of land in NW Ankeny from Fern Ringgenberg for new Church, School and Senior Housing Center.
12/17/2010 - Bishop Pates named Father Larry Hoffmann as first Pastor of St Luke the Evangelist Catholic Church.
03/13/2011 - First Mass held @ Ashland Ridge Elementary School.
03/21/2011 - Offices moved to St Anne’s Episcopal Church.
04/24/2011 - First Baptism held at St Luke’s – Twin sisters Caroline & Calista Edwards.
06/12/2011 - First Annual St Luke’s Parish-wide Picnic held at North Creek (FROG) Park.
08/28/2011 - First Annual St Luke’s-2-Our Lady’s Bike-Walk-Run fundraiser held.
09/18/2011 - First RE Class held in Northview Middle School classrooms and hallways.
09/21/2011 - Vision & Purpose Team established to come up with a Vision & Mission Statement.
10/30/2011 - First RCIA candidate Matt Ott fully received into Catholic Church.
01/18/2012 - First Saturday night Mass held at St Anne’s Episcopal Church.
01/20/2012 - New Parish LOGO design competition won by Gunawan Teguh and accepted by Organizing Committee.
02/09/2012 - First Pastoral Council meeting held.
04/12/2012 - First 8th Grade Confirmation Class held.
04/22/2012 - First 2nd Grade 1st Eucharist Class held.
06/20/2012 - Architects Neumann Monson & BVH began work on Master Plan.
08/25/2012 - First Planning Session “Building Dreams” held at Ashland Ridge Elementary with architectural firm.
11/19/2012 - The St Luke's Knights of Columbus Father Richard E. Gubbels, Council 15603 is established with Bob Lickteig as the inaugural Grand Knight.
The 9,720 square-foot facility opened in July 2013 and is located between the parish hall and Annunciation Catholic School.

08/2013 – Pastoral Council Committee members consist of Vicki Berberich, Tracy Deutmeyer, Dave Enos, Tom Judge, Bob Lickteig, Bruce Mehlhop, Paul Moritz, Jim Roths, Melissa Teggatz, Steve Wieneke
05/2014 – St Luke’s won two special awards at the Knights of Columbus State Convention; Parish Project of the Year for our pews & Father Larry Hoffmann was selected as Diocesan Chaplain of the Year.
08/2014 – Pastoral Council members consist of Vicki Berberich, Tracy Deutmeyer, Dave Enos, Tom Judge, Bob Lickteig, Bruce Mehlhop, Paul Moritz, Jim Roths, Melissa Teggatz, Steve Wieneke.
09/15/2014 – Tonya Eaton hired as school consultant following the resignation of Sally Nicholson.
12/15/2014 – Tonya Eaton officially hired as the principal who opened St Luke’s School.
04/2015 – $22,700 was raised by having 175 trees donated and planted by parishioners.
05/2015 – Kyle Curran and crew of volunteers worked a total of 371 hours pulling CAT 5 cable in the school and offices.
08/2015 – St Luke’s School opens with 42 students enrolled in Kindergarten – 3rd grade.
08/2016 – Parish Directory photos are taken by Life Touch.
05/2017 – Father Adam Westphal announced associate pastor of St Luke’s beginning in the fall when he completes his canon law in Washington D.C. He will also serve as canonical advisor to Bishop Pates.
08/2017 – Pete Haack takes over as RE program director.
In 2018, St Luke undertook the glorious “Modern Day Saints and Witnesses to the Resurrection” Stained Glass Project.
