Position Summary: The ResidentAssistant, or RA, is a caregiver providing assistance to residents under the supervision of the LPN and/or RN. ResidentAssistants provide compassionate care that is respectful of each resident's needs, values and wishes.

Principal Responsibilities:

Clinical Competencies:
ResidentAssistants provide the following nursing services under the supervision and direction of an LPN or RN across the continuum of care at SPHP.
* Assistresidents with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting and mobility in a respectful, compassionate manner.
* Assistresidents in taking medications as needed.
* Encourage and support resident independence and dignity.
* Monitor resident safety and well- being, reporting any change to the LPN. Consult with the LPN/RN on any changes of health statuses of residents.
* Build meaningful relationships with residents, understanding their personal histories, preferences and routines and anticipate needs of residents.
* Help with light housekeeping and meal service as needed to maintain a safe and clean living space.
* Participate in team meetings and communicate/collaborate with coworkers and supervisors.
* Promote a warm, friendly, and respectful environment.
Education Requirements:
* Must possess patience, empathy and a genuine desire to help others
* High school diploma or GED preferred.
* Previous experience in senior care, health care or assisted living preferred, but not required
Must be able to:
* Ability to follow care plan and safety protocols
* Working knowledge of computers including electronic health record, checking email, and preforming required in-servicing, along with use of other required applications
* Have the physical, visual and auditory ability adequate to perform resident care
* Maintain composure and positivity in a high stress environment
* Promote physical, cognitive, and psychosocial well-being of each resident
* Work with residents in a highly personal manner during stages of acute and chronic illness
Pay Range: :$16.70 - $20.36 per hour
Pay is based on experience, skills, and education. Exempt positions under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) will be paid within the base salary equivalent of the stated hourly rates. The pay range may also vary within the stated range based on location.

General Functions:
Under the direction of the Residence Director and Leadership, the Residence Security Staff is responsible to ensure the safety and well-being of residents and the YMCA Downtown property as a whole, by supervising the downtown property during non-facility hours. The incumbent will ensure safety as defined by internal emergency procedures and operating measures. The incumbent must balance support and accountability when developing productive partnerships with residents. Responsibilities/Duties/Functions/Tasks:
The essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to the following:
Supervise the Downtown Y property during Residence Only hours of operation to monitor building occupancy and safety procedures.
Respond to incidents, accidents and emergencies appropriately; in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures and in a calm and professional manner. Make appropriate notifications in accordance with the Emergency Action Plan.

Assist with monitoring residents to maintain safety providing 1:1 supervision as needed.
Organize, straighten, and clean closets and dressers (i.e., clothes hung neatly on hangers in closet, folded neatly in drawers, trash and soiled laundry removed.)
Ensure personal care items are put away and stocked (check with Team Leaders or Nurse Manager for appropriate stock.)
Gather supplies need for provisions of care, passing out linens.
Pass out drinks to independent residents who are not at risk for impaired swallowing/aspiration, check residents' drinks at bedside and verbally encourage residents to drink.
Report resident's intake to Team Leaders.
Offer the resident nourishments and/or distribute nourishments from the dietary department.
Check fall precautions: bed monitor, mats, and personal alarms. Check and clean dirty wheelchairs after each meal or after incontinent episode.
Check and clean tub and shower room.
Greet newly admitted residents upon admission, escort to room as necessary, receive paperwork from referring agency, and inform Unit Manager/Charge Nurse of arrival.
Assist with inventory of new admissions.
Assist in arranging for and making appointments for diagnostic therapeutic services.
Direct visitors to residents' rooms, office areas, etc.
Photocopy and fax per the needs of the unit.

RCAs start at $16.00 an hour, enroll into a CNA program and rate increases to $18.00 once certified as a CNA. Next, we will pay your way through an LPN program or Associate-level RN program.
Essential Job Functions:

Assist CNAs with residents requiring 2-staff transfer except in mechanical transfers.
Make occupied bed.

Pass, set up, and collect trays.
