The Sonographer performs obstetric sonography examinations in accordance with departmental policies and standards, abiding by American College of Radiology, TJC, and the New York State Department of Health, Bureau of Environmental Radiation Protection as guidelines for practice.

The Sonographer must have certificate of completion from a medical sonography program that is supported by the ARDMS.
Pay Range: $36.00-$52.45
Pay is based on experience, skills, and education. Exempt positions under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) will be paid within the base salary equivalent of the stated hourly rates. The pay range may also vary within the stated range based on location.

Completes and participates in Quality Improvement evaluation as needed/assigned.
Starts equipment, which produces images of internal organs and records diagnostic data on magnetic tape, computer disk, strip printout, or film. Photographs images of organs shown on display module, or removes strip printout from equipment, to obtain permanent record of internal examination.
Disinfects equipment and area.
Participates in training of Washburn University students as directed.
Demonstrates knowledge of and performs proper high-level disinfection processes for probe care. (If applicable)
Cardiac Sonographers Perform IV puncture, utilizing proper injection techniques while injecting endocardial border enhancing agents.
Rotating call is a requirement of the position. (Manhattan/Emporia exempt from call)

What you will do
Performs diagnostic ultrasound examinations using sonographic skills to identify, document, and adapt examinations as appropriate to anatomical, pathological, and diagnostic criteria.
Uses independent judgment during the ultrasound exam to accurately obtain diagnostic images necessary to differentiate between normal and pathologic findings and communicates findings to the interpreting radiologist.
Assumes responsibility for the safety, mental, and physical comfort of patients. Introduces self to patient, properly identifies patient utilizing two identifiers, and explains the ultrasound examination being performed.
Selects proper imaging transducer and equipment and operates effectively, efficiently, and safely. Selects and adds correct associated examination charges as needed. Coordinates examinations by priority while efficiently performing exams in a sequence which minimizes the patient's stay in the hospital.
Demonstrates knowledge of proper low-level and high-level disinfections process and performs necessary cleaning and disinfection process of all equipment as required by hospital protocol.
Responsible for completion of mandatory educational assignments and competencies as assigned by manager.
Participates in training of colleagues and sonography students as directed.
Rotating call is a requirement of the position.

Job Information Exemption Status: Non-Exempt Produces 2D, 3D, 4D ultrasonic recordings of fetal organs for use by physicians. Increasing demand for our services creates this immediate opportunity for an extremely competent Sonographer to apply non-ionizing high frequency ultrasonic waves for prenatal diagnosis. Ultrasound examinations include a variety of conditions ranging from routine OB/GYN to high risk obstetrical scans to include but not limited to, nuchal translucency, fetal anatomy survey, Doppler studies, biophysical profile, fetal echocardiograms and endovaginal scans. Experience also includes ability to perform guidance for amniocentesis, chronic villus sampling, and other procedures commonly performed in a MFM program. This person must be able to work independently and as a part of a team as well have knowledge of high risk conditions. The sonographer is responsible for daily operations of the sonographic program, patient schedule, equipment maintenance, report of equipment failures, and quality assessment (QA).
Education Qualifications
Completion of a formal Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program through an accredited organization or on the job training in ultrasound that led to registry. Required

What you will do

This position may exist in hospital imaging departments or in the perinatal specialty area and works under the general direction of the physician and/or supervision of the manager or supervisor. In hospital imaging, the ultra sonographer demonstrates competencies in a combination of breast, prostate, neonatal heads, body, abdominal, head/neck and interventional ultrasound, performing ultrasound examinations in accordance with ACR guidelines and protocols.
