In 1940 Stabler was ready to strike out on his own, and with $1,300 in savings he laid the foundation for the Stabler Companies by starting Stabler Construction Company in Harrisburg.
The business started out in 1941 as Eastern Lime Corporation and provided limestone to cement companies as well as agricultural limestone and crushed stone for ready-mix concrete and highway construction.
After New Enterprise incorporated in 1950, the four brothers expanded and diversified, adding precast/prestressed concrete and concrete pipe plants, and more quarries.
Eastern added its first quarry in 1957 and a year later became involved in the blacktopping business when it acquired Harlem Blacktop, Inc.
Over the next decade it added further materials, equipment rental, and construction assets until in March 1976 Stabler's Protection Services bought 98 percent of its stock.
1976 Eastern Industries is acquired.
In 1983 he formed Stabler Development Company to own and lease his real estate interests, primarily the quarries that supplied aggregate for construction purposes.
An example of Stabler's commitment to the project and salesmanship occurred in January 1985 when he faced some 200 hostile residents at an area high school.
1986 Work Area Protection Corporation is acquired.
Ken Stabler Trucking was founded in July 1989 by Ken and Alane Stabler.
The Center Valley Club and its upscale 18-hole public golf course opened in June 1992, and later in the decade it would host a pair of PGA Nike golf tournaments.
On December 30, 1997, a week after he turned 89 years old, Donald Stabler died at his Bal Harbour, Florida, winter home.
In 2000 Liberty Properties Trust broke ground on a $10 million, 70,000-square-foot office building that when it was opened was immediately occupied.
A minor accomplish in 2002 was the opening of the Allentown Business School at Stabler Center.
In 2003, Ken and Alane added A&K Transport, a brokerage company, to broker out excess loads.
After an extensive renovation adding a fire suppression system, and restabilizing the structure, the Landmarks Society donated the museum and its contents to the City of Alexandria in November of 2006.
In 2008, when the economy began its downturn, Ken felt it essential to focus on Stabler Steel & Recycling, a business he and Alane had started a few years before.
With the Bakken booming and the abundance of oversized loads, Alane began Stabler Pilot Service in 2011 primarily focusing in Montana, North and South Dakota, and Wyoming.
Ken and Alane are members of Motor Carriers of Montana, where Ken has been serving on the Board of Directors for many years, including the President in 2012.
