  • Staff Developer Productivity Engineer

    Gather 4.0company rating

    Remote job

About us Gather is building the all-in-one work communication tool - think of it as a Zoom and Slack replacement, built for an AI-native world. We're uniquely positioned in this space, with over 100,000 users utilizing our remote work platform each week and customers ranging from enterprises like Home Depot & Coinbase to law firms, startups, and public utilities. We have unprecedented access to rich data across communication, collaboration, and work processes, as well as the resources to truly understand how work is done. Grapevine is Gather's newest product, which provides rich context for AI agents to navigate all the tools used for work (think: Slack, Notion, GitHub, etc.) and structure the knowledge for agents. This is the holy grail opportunity for the AI ecosystem, and we believe we have unique insight to pull it off. Join us in this mission! Role Overview This role sits squarely at the intersection of Engineering Productivity and Core Infrastructure, supporting both our established virtual office platform and our rapidly evolving suite of AI products. Your mission is to significantly improve engineering velocity across the company. As we build out Grapevine and future AI agents, the complexity of our development environments is increasing. You will be responsible for abstracting that complexity, making the build-test-deploy loop as easy, fast, and reliable as possible for the engineering team. You will operate as a "team of one" in the EngProd domain, executing end-to-end projects while collaborating deeply with the Infrastructure team to maintain foundational services. This role is ideal for a pragmatic engineer who wants to shape the infrastructure behind the next generation of AI tools. Where You'll Make an Impact AI Dev Environment Automation: As we scale our AI products, we need to accelerate our iteration loop. You will architect and implement automation for ephemeral cloud development environments (e.g., cloud dev branches) that allow our AI agents to be tested in isolation. CI/CD Maturity for Multi-Product Support: Own and improve our continuous integration and delivery pipelines. You will ensure our tooling (and its dependency on Argo CD) is robust enough to handle deployments for both the core Gather application and our new AI services. Developer Experience: Streamline build tooling and local development setup. You will remove friction for engineers working across the stack-from the TypeScript codebase powering Gather to the backend services driving our AI knowledge retrieval systems. Infra Collaboration & On-call: Integrate closely with the Infrastructure team, providing expertise in developer tooling while participating in the shared infrastructure on-call rotation (currently 1 week every ~3 weeks. We go weeks at a time without getting paged). What You Bring Proven experience planning and executing projects end-to-end, ideally within a fast-paced medium-sized startup to small enterprise environment. Deep knowledge of the Kubernetes ecosystem (Kubernetes, Kustomize, Helm). Deploying apps is just the beginning - you must be able to troubleshoot when they don't. Strong ownership of CI/CD systems and a commitment to modern DevOps practices. Proficiency in TypeScript to contribute to and fix build/tooling systems that underpin our entire application stack. Experience with, or the ability to ramp up quickly on, Argo CD for declarative GitOps deployments. Comfortable operating as a solo owner of a functional domain (EngProd) while collaborating closely with a partner team (Infra). A pragmatic, adaptable, and non-zealot mindset; you prioritize shipping and velocity over rigid adherence to any single methodology or technology. US time zone alignment to effectively collaborate with the engineering team. Nice to Have Experience with SOC 2 compliance or other similar regulatory programs. Our products are built to SOC 2 Type II standards, so experience managing controls (e.g., in Vanta) and driving compliance across teams is a significant plus. Expertise in JavaScript build systems (e.g., Webpack, Babel, ESBuild, monorepo tools) and local development tooling. Interest in the intersection of AI and infrastructure, specifically in how to instrument and deploy Large Language Model (LLM)-powered applications efficiently. You're the type of person who compiles Linux kernels not because you have to, but because you want to. US Salary Range At Gather, compensation may vary outside of this range depending on a number of factors, including a candidate's qualifications, skills, competencies and experience, and location. The base salary range for this position in the selected city is $188,700 - $238,000 annually and we encourage candidates outside of this salary range to apply. Base salary is one part of the total package provided to compensate and recognize employees for their work, and this role will be eligible for a stock reward reflective of an early-stage startup. Benefits Work remotely out of a state-of-the-art virtual office! Competitive compensation, benefits, and meaningful equity Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance for employees and their dependents 401k and matching program Generous PTO policy and mental health days to recharge Meal stipend to keep you nourished Remote work, education, and health & wellness stipend Support for family planning & gender-affirmation The opportunity to join a passionate team in building something that actually makes peoples' lives better, every single day Gather is committed to building an inclusive and equitable workplace for individuals of all backgrounds. We strive to build a workplace where employees feel comfortable bringing their authentic selves to work, everyday. Qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, ethnicity, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender perception or identity, national origin, age, marital status, pregnancy or parental status, protected veteran status, disability status, or any other basis prohibited by law. Additionally, we're committed to providing access, equal opportunity and reasonable accommodation for individuals with disabilities in employment. If reasonable accommodation is needed to participate in the job application or interview process, to perform essential job functions, and/or to receive other benefits and privileges of employment, please notify the recruiter you are working with.
