Client Overview:
Our client's High Performance Facilities (HPF) team is seeking an experienced Mechanical Facilities Engineer to provide HVAC and Plumbing design for a wide range of national defense projects in their Albuquerque, NM office. From multi-building campuses to secure facilities across the globe, the HPF team designs and delivers sustainable solutions to meet Government needs for resiliency, readiness, and reliability. Our work directly impacts the operation and efficiency of installations vital to the protection and defense of the United States.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
The Mechanical Facilities Engineer III will design HVAC and Plumbing/Piping systems for an exciting range of mission critical to mission support projects.
Project work will encompass:
Plan, conduct, and coordinate detailed phases of HVAC and Plumbing design work with calculations, process flow diagrams, piping and instrumentation diagrams, layout of mechanical equipment and associated duct and piping systems, and sequences of operations.
Develop mechanical construction and equipment specifications, test and inspection plans, and system design descriptions.
Evaluate, select, and apply standard techniques, procedures, and criteria to perform a task or sequence of tasks for projects with less complex features, but also collaborate and use judgment to determine adaptations in methods for non-routine aspects of assignments and more complex projects.
Perform engineering quality assurance checks of project designs.
Support new project proposals with mechanical discipline scopes, budget estimates, and schedules.
Interface with and present designs to Federal, State, and Local government client contacts.
The Mechanical Facilities Engineer III will be a key member of a multi-disciplinary team of architectural and engineering staff producing project design packages of drawings, specifications, and calculations. The position includes great leadership opportunity with task assignment and work coordination with engineers, designers, and administrative staff. Periodic travel to other offices or project site locations, including international travel, may be required.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Degree Requirements: Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET Accredited Program is required. Engineering Technology degree will not be considered.
Minimum eight (8) years of experience - MUST HAVE
PE License required.
Ability to obtain a Department of Defense security clearance.
Experience in HVAC and plumbing/piping systems design and associated engineering calculations (e.g. Air-handling systems, laboratory fume hood exhaust air systems, duct systems, heating and chilled water hydronic piping systems, natural gas piping systems, domestic water and waste water piping systems, steam and condensate piping systems, compressed air systems, and mechanical system controls).
Experience sizing and selecting HVAC and plumbing/piping equipment (e.g. air-handling units, fans/blowers, pumps, cooling towers, chillers, boilers, coils, HEPA filtration systems, dampers, valves, and controls).
Proficient in editing and writing mechanical construction and equipment specifications.
Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
Experience using HVAC computer load and design programs such as Trane Trace software; knowledge of Revit building information modeling software; and familiarity with AutoCAD.
Working knowledge of ASHRAE, SMACNA, and NFPA standards.
Working knowledge of IMC, IPC, and IBC codes.

Experienced in one or more areas: Radio Frequency (RF), embedded control, FPGA
Experienced with power electronics, including motors and lithium batteries

Job Summary
Kairos Power is seeking a highly motivated Senior Electron Beam Welding Engineer that will be responsible for in-house electron beam welding (EBW) capability development and technology maturation. In this role, you will work on the Welding Development team to assist in the advancement and implementation of welding and manufacturing capabilities. The candidate will partner with design, testing, materials, modeling & simulation, and reliability engineers to develop weld joint design, weld techniques, weld specifications, and inspection methods needed for welded KP-FHR and test platform assemblies.
Responsibilities
Procedure Development & Qualification
Design, develop, and maintain EBW procedures and supporting documentation (WPS/PQR) to meet material, joint, and quality requirements in compliance with applicable codes, standards (e.g., AWS, ASME, API), and regulatory expectations.
Develop and execute weld qualification plans, including test coupons and validation trials, in coordination with quality and materials teams
Anticipate future welding needs by aligning EBW procedures and qualification strategies with evolving product designs, manufacturing processes, and regulatory demands.
Quality Assurance & Process Optimization
Oversee and review EBW inspections to verify compliance with design specifications and applicable quality standards.
Analyze weld test data to identify trends, determine root causes of defects, and implement corrective actions to enhance welding performance and reliability.
Lead continuous improvement initiatives to optimize EBW processes, increase efficiency, reduce cost, and maintain high-quality output.
Collaboration & Training
Partner with design engineers, production teams, and key stakeholders to integrate EBW processes into the manufacturing workflow effectively.
Provide hands-on training and mentorship to welding technicians and operators on EBW techniques, safety protocols, and industry best practices.
Technical Documentation & Reporting
Develop and maintain comprehensive technical documentation, including process instructions, work procedures, and detailed reports.
Ensure accurate recordkeeping of EBW procedures, inspection results, and quality control data to support traceability and continuous improvement.
Equipment Ownership & Maintenance
Ensure performance, reliability, and availability of EBW systems, including high-vacuum chambers, beam control units, and power supplies.
Monitor and calibrate critical parameters (e.g., beam alignment, focus, power output, vacuum integrity) to maintain process consistency and compliance with specifications.
Lead maintenance and upgrade initiatives, including preventive planning, troubleshooting, vendor coordination, and system improvements to enhance automation and long-term equipment reliability.

Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or higher in Welding Engineering, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field
Minimum 5 years of welding engineering experience, with substantial hands-on experience in EBW required
Experience with weld inspection methods, including both destructive testing and non-destructive examination (NDE) techniques
Hands-on experience working with austenitic stainless steels, carbon steels, piping systems, and pressure vessels
Experience leading cross-functional projects or mentoring junior engineers and technicians is preferred.
Experience with manual and CNC machining operations is preferred

Strong knowledge of EBW processes, high-vacuum systems, and high-voltage equipment operation
