Responsibilities Own the design and validation of the control loop for bidirectional AC/DC and DC/DC power conversion hardware, including units involving the interconnection of multiple converters acting together as a single product Act as a technical expert for bidirectional 10 kW+ level AC/DC and DC/DC control systems at all stages of design and verification; support other power related projects as needed Design controls code for high voltage and high power systems and validate its functionality and performance Work with our established firmware team to transition that code into production Develop prototype firmware to enable hardware bring up and testing Support the transition from new product development into high volume manufacturing including assisting with the development of production line testing methods Lead and/or participate in design reviews and trade studies as needed Collaborate with firmware, electrical, mechanical, manufacturing and other engineering teams Required Qualifications & Skills Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field 10+ years experience developing complex products as a power electronics controls engineer, electrical engineer, or related role Strong understanding of power converter theory and design Experience developing digital control systems for grid tied inverters, rectifiers, and DC/DC converters using microcontroller platforms Working knowledge of V2G and G2V related regulations in North America as they relate to the design of grid interactive power converters Working knowledge of renewable energy related concepts such as home energy storage systems, general power conversion/regulation/distribution, and power fault protection Experience with modeling and simulation-aided analysis for control loop design in tools such as PLECS Familiarity with scripting language such as Python, Javascript, Visual Basic, or equivalent Familiarity with electrical hardware lab equipment Strong writing, interpersonal, and communication skills Desired Qualifications & Skills Master's degree or PhD in electrical engineering or related field Bidirectional inverter design experience for North American grid tied applications Experience writing embedded software for the STM32 family of microcontrollers Experience designing and debugging for electrical and safety compliance standards such as FCC, CE, UL/ETL, etc. Experience designing and shipping high-volume consumer products What We Offer 💰 Compensation: The expected base salary range is $140,000-$180,000, plus stock options, however the offered salary may be higher or lower than the above range depending on numerous factors including, but not limited to work experience, skills and internal equity considerations. Atom Computing is seeking a Hardware Engineer to join our team to assist in the design, verification, and testing of custom electronic assemblies for the control system of our quantum computer. This position is located in Boulder, Colorado, and will report to the Control Systems Manager.Job Responsibilities: Board-level circuit design, schematic capture, and PCB layout in Altium Designer of custom control system hardware. Prepare detailed technical specifications and design documentation and assist with reviewing schematics and layout of custom electronic designs. Actively participate in the bring-up, verification, and testing of control system hardware systems, collaborating closely with FPGA, firmware, and software engineers. Develop characterization, verification / validation, and automated test procedures and programs for various instruments that the team develops Assist in managing interactions with contract electronics manufacturers and suppliers for PCB design and assembly. Contribute to the continuous improvement of design and testing processes within the hardware team. Working knowledge of PCB design best practices and a keen attention to detail. Capable in scripting languages (e.g., Python) for basic data acquisition, instrument control, and automating hardware test and characterization. Self-motivated, collaborative, and driven to work effectively in a fast-growing, early-stage startup environment with a high tolerance for ambiguity and uncertainty. Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with a diverse team of experimental physicists, hardware, and software engineers. Willingness to learn physics concepts to put work in context. Preferred Qualifications (Nice to Have) Experience working in a Linux environment. Experience in a full design cycle, from concept and schematic capture through to layout, fabrication, and initial board bring-up. Familiarity with RF design concepts, the MicroTCA standard, and/or software defined radio.
