The Facilities & Equipment Engineer is responsible for workstation layouts and supports the equipment procurement process to set up the production line
Key Responsibilities:
Review all station layouts and confirm application of facilities and equipment.
Develop proposals for line display, review with plant stakeholders and obtain approvals on selected equipment, layout, materials/construction, etc
Prepare required equipment counts, with material flow engineer.
Prepare detailed specifications for standard equipment requiring bids.
Prepare detailed bid/design specifications for non-standard equipment, indexers and AGC/AGV systems.
conduct DFMEA for all major automation systems (indexers/AGC).
Construct/maintain Facilities & Equipment budget forecast and actual and provide monthly updates to program manager.
Coordinate all equipment/system installation and extraction activities (daily schedule, manpower required, contractor coordination).
Visit equipment fabricators in the US MidWest region as needed to personally oversee runoffs
Coordinate and obtain plant safety and ergonomics buy-off on all new equipment, prior to kicking off build and prior to installation in the plant.
Other activities as required throughout the program"

This position will have responsibility for defining and validating high voltage electrical components and systems (50V to over 1000V) and supporting powertrain integration for electrification programs (including diesel-electric, battery-electric, and hybrid machines), from concept through production. This position will be accountable for translating system requirements into appropriate high voltage electrical system designs while ensuring alignment with key safety standards. It will also have accountability for electrical system auditing, troubleshooting, validation, and issue resolution to ensure alignment to safety and regulatory standards and reliability expectations.
Job Duties/Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
Analyzing HV systems for proper protections and arc flash mitigation, using tools like ETAP, Pspice
Creating electric powertrain system and sub-system diagrams
Ensuring proper overload protection device selection and coordination
Defining, integrating, and validating high voltage components in machine powertrain applications
Driving requirements definition in support of electrical safety standards (IEEE, NFPA, IEC, ISO, UN)
Assisting technical leads in conveying software requirements and component electronic information for HV diagnostics, events, and warnings to the various controls' teams
Virtual audits of HV powertrain systems for grounding, bonding, and cable selection / routing
Supporting machine commissioning by evaluating compliance with standards, documenting and resolving issues and verifying safe operating procedures
Development of HV system design guides, leveraging best practices and lessons from prior machine projects
Sizing high voltage cables in powertrain applications
Troubleshooting and analysis of field data
Educating process partners on the hazards and best practices for working on high voltage electrical systems
Key Responsibilities:
Perform high-voltage (HV) systems analysis, design, integration, testing, and troubleshooting for diesel-electric, hybrid, and battery-electric applications.
Develop and review HV schematics and single-line diagrams; conduct cable sizing, load flow, short circuit, arc flash, and fuse coordination analysis using ETAP or similar tools.
Define and cascade requirements aligning with industry standards (e.g., IEC 60204, IEC 61439, IEEE 992) and audit designs for safety, grounding, bonding, and cable routing improvements.
Required Skills:
Strong experience in HV electrical systems (>600V DC) design, analysis, and integration.
Proficiency in system-level tools for load flow, schematics, short circuit, and fuse coordination (ETAP or similar).

+ **Controls Development:** Develop/implement control system algorithms using Matlab/Simulink for various control systems including, but not limited to, engine controllers, machine implement controllers, as well as powertrain controllers. Will be responsible for understanding the feature requirement, implementing it, as well as testing it prior to a production rollout.
+ **Electronic Components:** Will be responsible for designing and testing various electronic control modules, as well as various electronic components. Will work with various internal Caterpillar clients to understand controller/component requirements, help design PCB [Printed Circuit Board] layouts, as well as perform digital/analog/power circuit analysis and testing. Other duties may include working with suppliers, testing the controllers/components in various environments, ensuring that FMEAs [Failure Mode and Effects Analysis] are conducted and documented to meet stringent Caterpillar quality requirements.
+ **Embedded Software Development:** Develop embedded software in C, C#, and/or C++ for various electronic control modules. Some examples of embedded software development applications include Datalink communications, inputs and outputs (sensors and actuators), speed calculation, injection/spark timing, memory management, CPU optimization, multi-core design and implementation, autonomy algorithms for perception, localization, planning, etc. In addition, some areas of work include developing scripts in Python/Visual Basic for automation.
+ **Software Validation/Verification for Electronic Systems:** Verify functionality of a feature or control system algorithm on a HIL [Hardware in the Loop] simulator bench or a SIL [Software in the Loop] system. Understand the requirements of the feature and/or the schematics of the controller/control system, verify functionality and debug/report anomalies to the development team, and help validate fixes.
+ **Engineering Data Analytics:** Ability to write and understand computer code, Python, analytics/data science experience, exposure to machine learning concepts/tools, engineering and statistics fundamentals.
