CAE Engineer
Staff engineer job in Milwaukee, WI
Responsibilities:
Provide expert thermal management system designs and guidance to facilitate the development of Lead acid, Li-Ion, Super Capacitor battery cells and battery packs
Provide CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) and thermal simulations to predict the performance of the temperature distribution within the cells and battery systems and establish operating ranges and key design parameters
Provide knowledge for defining and executing FEA simulations to validate battery design concepts regarding mechanical robustness
Optimize the system design to balance cost, performance, mass, volume and thermal efficiency
Use 1D systems modeling for early product design planning
Provide technical guidance to cross functional teams as needed
Assist in the assembly and test of battery systems or prototypes
Qualitifications, Skills & Abilities:
Experience level: 5-8 years (need to evaluate based on our (LTTS) action plan)
MS/MTech in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, any other relevant disciplines
Thermal & Mechanical Modeling and simulation skills
Working experience in 1D modeling is preferred
Solid years of experience in selecting and characterizing thermal materials
Extensive working experience in thermal system design using CFD simulations
Good working experience/exposure in Mechanical system design using FEA simulations related to crash, crush, mechanical shock, and vibration analysis
Experience with Li-Ion battery systems is desired, specifically regarding thermal management and mechanical design
OEM Automotive/Tier 1 experience with systems/assemblies is highly desirable
Strong Communication and organizational skills
Tools:
CFD: ANSYS Fluent and StarCCM+ tools (mandatory)
Structural Solvers: LS Dyna and/or Abaqus (desirable)
Pre & Post Processors: ANSA, MetaPost (mandatory)
CAD exposure: SOLIDWORKS (desirable)
Other tools: MATLAB (desirable)
Scripting tools: Python (good to have, but not mandatory)
Engineering Support Tools: JAMA, JIRA (good to have, but not mandatory)
