Overview
The Joby material and Process group is seeking a highly organized and passionate M&P engineer to join our team in Dayton, Ohio, focusing on supporting the production of high-performance aircraft propeller blades. The successful candidate will bring expertise in Resin Transfer Molding and structural bonding to implement manufacturing processes meeting stringent aerospace standards.
Responsibilities
Execute FAA-mandated material qualification test plans
Author and maintain materials, process, and test specifications
Analyze composite material behaviors and evaluate new processes to optimize and enhance manufacturing throughput, including troubleshooting manufacturing processes to reduce quality non-conformances; Optimize out-times, cure cycles, and assembly methods to ensure materials perform reliably in a high-rate production environment.
Collaborate with internal stakeholders to conduct non-conformance (MRB) reviews, providing technical disposition for production issues and serve as a liaison with stress and design
Lead complex root-cause investigations into material and part failures to prevent recurrence and participate in corrective action processes
Work daily in a highly collaborative environment alongside Part Designers, Manufacturing Engineers, and Production Teams to ensure M&P requirements are integrated in the part manufacturing
Interface with raw material suppliers to troubleshoot technical issues and evaluate new materials that could enhance throughput
Required
B.S. degree and 8+ years of experience in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, material science or a relevant discipline
In depth understanding of composite parts fabrication and structural bonding
Familiarity with ASTM and SACMA test standards
Excellent technical writing, computer and presentation skills
Understanding of statistical design allowables
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively & communicate effectively

Additional Information
Compensation at Joby is a combination of base pay and Restricted Stock Units (RSUs). The target base pay for this position is $110,100 - $183,900/yr. The compensation package will be determined by job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.

Job Duties
Support current process technology and implement improvements to department/plant operations based upon manufacturing engineering analysis of existing operations compared to future requirements based on capacity, cost reduction, safety and/or risk avoidance opportunities.
Help to prepare project justification including recommendations, make-vs-buy analysis, layout, cost impact and schedule activities as required. Implementation of processes including equipment procurement, coordination of installation, process capability prove-out, training, process documentation, work standard measurement and production start-up.
Contribute to the product introduction process.
Review production problems as they are identified and implement solutions. Develop, implement and update documentation and training
Develop reports, project briefings and management presentations. Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
8-15 years related experience
High School graduate or equivalent
Job requires employee to drive a personal vehicle to conduct company business < 20% per week (8 hours) and/or travel locally between company locations during scheduled workday.
Must demonstrate good communication skills amongst shop floor, support staff, and plant leadership.
Must be able to lead and execute small teams and projects.
Requires good organizational and interpersonal skills, and the ability to train others
Per 8-hour shift. Sit 8 hours and stand 0 hours. Typical office environment (low noise level, limited exposure hot/cold temperatures, dust, fumes, and vibrations). Regular interaction with others and performs a degree of independent work. Physical and mental demands are akin to the majority of office positions with prolonged periods of sitting and prolonged use of a computer/keyboard. Infrequent lifting, walking and climbing stairs. Occasional use of office equipment (copiers, printers, etc.).
Preferred Qualifications
Certain technical skills and training such as CNC programming, CAD layout, geometric dimensioning and tolerance (GD&T), process capability theory and statistical process control (SPC) may be required.

Essential Job Functions:
* Provides technical support to assigned manufacturing areas (i.e., troubleshooting production issues).
* Where necessary, will include development and programming of equipment automation such as PLCs, data acquisition software or similar manufacturing equipment control and/or automation systems.
* Creates and maintains work instructions for product build (example: SOP, MI, etc ).

* Creates and maintains methods, B.O.M.s, labor standards, in ERP system.
* Actively participates in C.I., RCCA, PFMEA, and cost reductions / process improvements.
* Review, approval and implementation of product design and technical documentation changes related to manufacturing.
* Selection, construction (when appropriate), and validation of tooling, fixtures, gages, and equipment.
* Work with product engineers and program managers to effectively launch product from design to production.
* Work flow / cell design with a focus on waste reduction and process improvement.
* Technical liaison between work force, suppliers, customers, quality, and design engineers related to manufacturing issues.
* Assist as required to maintain compliance to industry standards (AS-9100, NADCAP).
* Analysis of manufacturing variances to help identify key areas in need of improvement.
Additional Duties:
* Support supply chain and quality with supplier development activities as needed.
* Support resolution of supplier quality issues as required.
* Support customer/regulatory audits as necessary.
* Support customer complaints & concerns within a defined value stream.
* Provide support for Lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives, companywide.

Qualifications:

* Working knowledge of CAD software and 3D printing.
* Excellent technical, written and oral communication skills.
* Working knowledge of MS Office.
* Preferred Qualifications: Knowledge of both manual and automated mechanical equipment for tooling, fixtures, and testing preferred,experience in lean manufacturing preferred, working knowledge of GD&T preferred, working knowledge of CAD software preferred, working knowledge of ERP (in particular BOM & Method creation & support) preferred.
* Must submit to and satisfactorily pass any pre-employment screening required for employment with the Company.
* Must take medical exams required by law, in conjunction with occupation specific activities, the physical work environment, and ongoing industrial hygiene sampling results.
* Depending on assignment, may be required to use stairs, remain upright and/or seated for prolonged timeframes, intermittently reposition the body per various tasks performed, and use various tools and work-related supplies.

Education:
