DAPER is searching for an organized, engaging, customer-focused, and detail-oriented individual to join our team as the Human Resources Generalist (HRG). Reporting to the Assistant Director, Human Resources Operations, the Human Resources Generalist provides direct operational and administrative HR support to multiple DAPER departments. This role partners closely with the HR team to implement, communicate, and serve as a resource for human resources policies, procedures, and practices. The ideal candidate is comfortable working independently and collaboratively, can manage multiple priorities and projects, respond with urgency, is highly organized, and thrives in a fast-paced, evolving environment. This position is on-site and based at the Stanford Campus, Stanford, CA. Your responsibilities include: Provide administrative support for key HR processes, including time and attendance, compensation changes, onboarding, and offboarding. Coordinate HRIS data activities, including initiating transactions and generating reports to support compliance, audits, and metrics tracking. Ensure the accuracy and integrity of all data and act as the point of contact for promptly identifying and resolving payroll-related issues. Assist with and explain applicable workers' compensation, disability and leave procedures, and generate related correspondence; update and maintain reports to track leaves and workers' compensation documentation. Maintain personnel and human resources-related files and information, including driver authorizations and I-9 forms. Provide support to contingent employee hiring, including offer letters, background checks, and contingent orientation. Coordinate the recruitment process, including job postings, interview scheduling, and applicant disposition in partnership with hiring managers and HR staff. Input and update labor schedules for new hires as needed. Serve as a knowledgeable resource for DAPER staff by providing clear guidance on HR policies, procedures, and navigation questions (e.g., "how to" and "where to find" information). Address and resolve routine inquiries and issues; escalate complex matters to the Assistant Director or Director as appropriate. Provide general administrative support to the HR team. Assist the HR team in identifying department needs, recommending changes, and implementing improvements. Maintain standards of strict confidentiality with respect to all HR matters and documentation. Collaborate with internal and external partners to foster a positive work environment and ensure effective communication. To be successful in this role, you will have: Bachelor's degree and five or more years of relevant experience, or a combination of education and relevant experience. Excellent organizational, problem-solving, follow-through, critical thinking, analytical skills, and attention to detail. Ability to learn and apply general human resources policies using problem-solving skills. Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and effectively handle highly sensitive and personal information with sound judgment, tact, and discretion. Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills with the ability to work cross-functionally with various departments. Very strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint). Familiarity with human resource management systems, such as PeopleSoft and time/leave systems. Experience using email and the internet. Previous Stanford HR Operations experience a strong plus. The expected pay range for this position is $88,222 to $93,500 per annum.     Responsibilities Under the general direction of the Senior Director, Labor & Employee Relations, the Director of Employee Relations will: * Provide case-specific consultative services to campus administrators and leaders on complex employee relations matters, ensuring consistent, legally sound, and practical outcomes. * Serve as a systemwide liaison with campus HR and Faculty Affairs leadership to advise on complex and high-visibility employee relations issues. * Advise campus leadership on a broad range of employee relations topics, including discipline, performance management, workplace investigations (not related to Nondiscrimination Policy violations), workplace complaints, conflict resolution, and the proper documentation needed in various situation. * Coordinate cross-functional partnerships with Labor Relations, the Office of General Counsel, Civil Rights, and other subject matter experts to address complex or sensitive employee relations issues. * Design, direct, and deliver training on employee relations topics such as workplace investigations, performance management, conflict resolution, and corrective action. * Partner with HR colleagues to ensure training programs are consistent, effective, and implemented across all CSU campuses. * Provide leadership and coordination for a systemwide community of practice in employee relations, fostering consistency, collaboration, and knowledge-sharing. * Direct the development, implementation, and ongoing evaluation of systemwide employee relations policies, procedures, and best practices, ensuring alignment with CSU's mission, strategic goals, collective bargaining agreements, and legal obligations. * Interpret and apply federal and state law, collective bargaining agreements, and CSU policy to provide accurate and consistent guidance to campuses. * Partner with Systemwide Labor Relations staff to align employee relations practices with bargaining obligations under HEERA and to provide input on bargaining proposals and contract interpretation. * Oversee the collection and analysis of employee relations data, trends, and metrics to identify systemic issues, recommend preventive strategies, and drive continuous improvement. * Serve as an escalation point for high-risk or sensitive employee relations matters, including those with potential litigation or arbitration implications. Qualifications This position requires: * Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Labor Studies, Business Administration, Public Administration, Industrial/Organizational Psychology, or a related field. * At least seven (7) years of progressively responsible professional experience in employee relations, labor relations, or human resources, including significant experience in a unionized environment. * Expert knowledge of federal and state employment law including FMLA/CFRA, Reasonable Accommodations, HEERA, and collective bargaining agreements. * Demonstrated ability to conduct and oversee complex workplace investigations. * Strong policy development and program evaluation skills. * Exceptional consultative and advisory skills. * Advanced written and verbal communication skills. * Analytical and data interpretation skills. * Strong conflict resolution and mediation abilities. * Strong leadership and collaboration skills. * High degree of discretion, judgment, and integrity. * Strong knowledge of the principles of disciplinary processes, including due process, and progressive discipline.     Under the general direction of the AVP, Employee and Labor Relations, the Director, Staff Employee Relations will manage and administer the staff employee/labor relations functions for the university and may provide support with academic labor relations. This includes contract administration, grievance/complaint/discipline processing, and the development and implementation of programs to assist managers and supervisors to deal effectively with employee/labor relations, complaints, workplace violence, performance management, and risk management. The Director, Staff Employee Relations administers the provisions of staff Collective Bargaining Agreements and staff-related policies and executive orders and provides contractual/policy interpretation/advice to managers and work leads/supervisors. The incumbent investigates and resolves employee and union grievances, provides oversight to leadership and development programs for all employees, and manages the annual performance evaluation process for the campus. The Manager provides oversight to the campus seniority points system and may serve on significant campus committees that deal with employee/labor relations issues. The Director may assist with "their Conduct of Concern" investigations. Other general personnel responsibilities may be assigned as needed.
