Your Opportunity
Stantec's Water practice has an opportunity for a Civil Engineer in Training with experience and/or interest in civil, water/wastewater, municipal utility, or water resources engineering to join our team in Sarasota, FL. The role of an entry level civil engineer is to work on smaller projects, and as a team member of larger projects under the close guidance and supervision of a senior engineer/designer. Your responsibilities would include evaluating and designing sub-systems and also evaluating and specifying products for various projects. You will perform a variety of tasks which may include preparing calculations, conducting field work, coordinating simple tasks, and meeting attendance and recording. Smaller projects that an entry level civil engineer may be assigned to will have relatively few complex features. In general, an entry level civil engineer will assist more senior engineers/designers by performing the routine aspects of civil engineering assignments.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Support the project team in the development of design plans and specifications for a variety of water/reclaimed water/wastewater distribution and collection systems, and water resources projects primarily for public municipal clients
- Assist with the preparation of detailed engineering studies, technical and infrastructure planning reports, hydraulic models and design tasks associated with municipal distribution and collection systems, and related facilities
- Perform quality reviews of documents in various phases of design development including engineering calculations, design reports, and construction plans.
- Assist in the evaluation and selection of civil systems, equipment, and materials.
- Support senior staff in preparation of project cost estimates and participate in value engineering exercises.
- Prepare, revise, and coordinate permit applications and documentation for utility, environmental, and municipal permits through local, state and federal jurisdictions; respond to requests for additional information, and monitor and report status of various permit submittals
- Attend and participate in project meetings with internal team members and/or external consultants.
- Attend and participate in meetings with clients, municipal officials, and contractors to review project needs
- Take sufficient notes at meetings to document discussions and organize follow-up action items.
- Coordinate and keep consistent communication with other project team disciplines to ensure entire design team has same design intent and is on schedule
- Support construction projects with periodic field site visits, construction observation, and witnessing utility testing
- Assist in the review of contractor shop drawings and submittals, respond to request for information, prepares site observation reports, and performs other construction administration tasks
- Prepared to step in and assist with any of the project teams tasks in order to complete projects on time, on budget, and with quality design
Your Capabilities and Credentials
- Be a self-motivated individual, possessing strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal, along with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks
- Candidate must have strong technical writing abilities
- Experience with design of water and wastewater utilities is preferred
- Technical knowledge in water, sewer and drainage projects is plus
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite, AutoCAD Civil 3D, ArcGIS Mapping is a plus and willingness to learn relevant software such as WaterCAD, SewerCAD, StormCAD, etc.
Education and Experience
- Must have Bachelor's of Science degree in Civil or Environmental engineering
- Previous experience in civil, environmental and or water resources is a plus.
- Engineer-in-Training certification
- Must have a valid driver's license

Our Tampa office has an opportunity available for a Driller's Assistant.
A driller assistant will assist the crew chief in solid stem and hollow stem auger drilling techniques. The assistant will help move, set up and operate drilling rigs and related equipment to drill holes for geotechnical exploration test borings. Site investigation/geotechnical drilling is done to determine the soil characteristics on construction sites. Work is outdoors. The work is generally physically demanding. * Assist in drilling operations.
* Expedite field supplies.
* Perform duties at multiple job sites.
* Perform yard duties at direction of supervisor.
* Assist in measuring test boring locations
* Load and unload trucks.

Duties, Responsibilities & Other
As a Site/Civil Design Technician your primary responsibilities include designing and drafting civil and land development construction drawings using AutoCAD/Civil 3D and other relevant software. You will work closely with a team under the supervision of a project manager to ensure that all designs meet industry standards and the approval standards of federal, state, and local agencies. Your role involves the creation, production, and management of construction drawings for a wide range of public and private civil engineering and land development projects, and ensuring that projects are completed on time and within budget. You will be expected to demonstrate attention to detail, collaborate effectively with team members, and interface with the project team to meet project requirements.
The key responsibilities of this role include:
Have an extensive knowledge of CAD standards and advanced Civil 3D functionality
Work closely with project engineers and managers to set up and manage construction drawings using AutoDesk Civil 3D
Prepare construction documents for a wide range of civil and land development projects from conceptual design through construction certification
Responsible for design for site layout, grading, erosion and sedimentation control, drainage and stormwater management design, water distribution system design, sanitary sewer and lift station design, roadway and access connection design

The Project Manager will work on general aviation and non-hub commercial service airports. Projects include federal and state funded airport improvement programs as well as locally funded projects at public and private use airports.

Design experience on FAA and State DOT aviation projects within an assigned client base.

In the role of Project Controls Specialist, we'll count on you to:
* Manage project information, including hard-copy and electronic files
* Coordinate information flow between project participants, including subconsultants, and if appropriate between project team and the client
* Attend project meetings and prepare detailed minutes of meetings
* Develop presentations based on input from project team members
* Develop and track project schedules for meetings and deliverables
* Monitor, update and review financial data
* Prepare draft monthly progress reports
* Track and ensure compliance with contract requirements
* Use processes and tools established on projects
* Develop and assist in preparation of schedules
* Prepare various reports
* Demonstrate understanding of project controls tools
* Assist in schedule baseline and schedule update reviews
* Assist in costs estimate development and review
* Track and coordinate submittals and RFI reviews amongst various disciplines and engineers of record.
* Organize and file contractor submitted documents.
* Perform other duties as needed
Preferred Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree in Construction Management or Engineering
* A minimum of 5 years' experience in project controls work on engineering and construction projects, including planning, estimating, forecasting, scheduling, cost control, schedule control, and project reports
* Certifications (one or more): PSP, PMP, PE, CM, EVP, PMI-SP, CST
* Ability to interpret construction schedules
This position is designated as remote. The selected candidate will perform all job responsibilities from their home office and is expected to maintain a professional work environment that supports productivity and confidentiality. Periodic travel to client sites may be required to support business needs.

Your Opportunity
The role of the senior civil engineer is to work independently on small and large projects, as well as a team member for more complex and larger projects. The senior engineer should be able to evaluate, select, specify, and engineer systems or products for a project. You will perform a variety of tasks which may include calculations, field work, coordination of tasks and personnel, and mentoring junior staff. The projects assigned may have complex features that will require the application of mature knowledge and experience. You will lead the analysis of proposed projects to ensure structural reliability, resource efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
Your Key Responsibilities
Oversee and manage multiple projects. Responsible for large projects of high complexity.
Serves as Engineer-of-Record.
Provides technical leadership for civil related projects, including the management of existing client relationships and bringing in new clients.
Performs on technically complex projects and acts as a technical resource by providing guidance to other team members.
Supervises the work of other engineers, including setting the priorities for their scope of work, their budgets and their schedules for completing the work in conjunction with Project Manager(s).
May perform or assist Project Manager and/or Project Technical Lead with managing and monitoring financial performance of project budgets.
Review and conduct alternative analyses to support business case evaluations for making project decisions.
Evaluate, select, specify all civil engineered systems or products for a project.
Manage and lead others while working on projects and developing design; assigns, reviews and evaluates work for technical accuracy and completeness; advises on technical problems.
Lead project coordination meetings with internal team members and/or external consultants, owner and contractor, sub-contractors, and vendors.
Lead in client project requirement meetings, value analysis, and cost estimating.
Lead the preparation and coordination of project specifications with construction documents.
Participate in constructability reviews.
Conduct quality assurance and quality control on own projects and projects of peers.
Lead the development of new standards and specifications for the discipline.
Serve as the Project's point of contact with clients, agencies and others to obtain and determine project requirements and approvals.
Remain current on regulatory policy and rule changes and may establish working relationships with regulatory officials.
Engage in leadership in Professional organizations that align with expertise; write technical papers and delivers technical presentations for conference and symposia events.
Develop project scope, budgets, and design approach for all size projects, and support marketing and business development professionals in positioning for potential projects, writing technical portions of proposals, participating in client interviews and supporting negotiations for project contracts.
Assist and/or lead the development of proposals and contract negotiation.

Minimum of 10 years of professional experience in municipal water, wastewater, and utility design projects.
Florida Professional Engineering (PE) license.
Typical office environment working with computers and working at a desk for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
