Star One Credit Union company history timeline
The Lockheed Missile Employees Federal Credit Union was chartered in October 1956 to serve employees of the new Lockheed Missiles and Space Division in Sunnyvale, California.
History: The star One Credit union was opened in 1956.
Our doors opened in January 1957 when 1,350 member accounts were transferred from the Lockheed Aircraft Employees Federal Credit Union in Burbank.
Star One Credit Union (and other federally insured credit unions) file a periodic call report with the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA). The National Credit Union Share Insurance Fund (NCUSIF) is the federal fund created by Congress in 1970 to insure member's deposits in credit unions.
Since 1976, Bankrate has analyzed and scored United States credit unions based on a variety of factors, including product selection, interest rate offerings, account fees, mobile and online features and more.
In 1993 the Board changed our field of membership, allowing the Credit Union to provide membership to Select Employee Groups (SEGs) outside the Lockheed Martin community.
In 2002, our Austin branch celebrated its 20th anniversary.

Student Loan Program In 2008, Star One began offering private student loans to help fill the gap caused by lenders discontinuing their programs.
Abby Award Arts Council Silicon Valley awarded Star One Credit Union an ABBY Award at the 2008 Silicon Valley Arts & Business Awards Luncheon for our Small Business Support.
Visionary Leadership Award At the 6th Annual Call to Action Conference of the Elder Financial Protection Network (EFPN) held in 2009, Star One Credit Union was conferred the Visionary Leadership Award for its ongoing efforts to protect the aged from financial abuse.
Autumn 2016 brought the opening of our sixth branch, this time on Big Basin Way (Highway 9) in historic downtown Saratoga, California.
As of the period ending June 30, 2020, Star One received its 120th consecutive quarter of superior (5 star) performance from Bauerfinancial Inc.
CUNA estimated that Star One provides $82,569,368 in direct financial benefits to its members during the twelve months ending December 2021.
In January 2022, Bankrate published a report that listed Star One as the 9th Best Credit Union in the United States (and the 1st in California).
GoBankingRates published their Top Best Banks of 2022 and listed Star One as the 9th Best Bank.
