The mission of the Michigan Department of Corrections is to create a safer Michigan by holding offenders accountable while promoting their success.
The Michigan Department of Corrections (MDOC) Parole/Probation unpaid internship opportunities are available in various counties throughout the state. These internships will help the student develop competencies (knowledge, skills, abilities and motivation) needed for a career as a Parole/Probation Agent through daily interaction with staff and offenders.
Students will have the opportunity to become involved in real-time case management by assisting with investigating criminal activity, supervision violations, interviewing offenders, victims and witnesses, evaluating offenders progress toward supervision objectives, and offenders families in support of mutual goals.
The intern responsibilities and projects may include learning from agents and assisting agents in the following:
* Review policy and procedures for the Michigan Department of Corrections
* Attend court proceedings in reference to sentencing, arraignments and probation violations
* Assist in the development of pre-sentence reports.
* Report daily interaction with offenders and perform offender home calls under MDOC staff supervision
* Develop parole/probation violation reports
* Utilize electronic monitoring supervision system
* Other projects will be assigned depending on specialty of the office
* Assist parole staff in developing and facilitating job readiness and other support programs
* Track job placement and employment retention outcomes
* Provide research assistance and data collection on reentry programs, policies and practices
* Collaborate with contracted prisoner reentry service providers, other law enforcement representatives and community organizations
* Assist in administering risk assessments and developing case plans
* Identify and refer parolees to local community resources
* Participate in special assignments as directed by the parole supervisor
Applicants:
* Must be enrolled in a college or University
* Have good written and verbal communication skills
* Must have a minimum GPA of 2.5
* Must pass a LEIN background check
* Must pass a fingerprinting screen, through the source designated by the Department
* Must pass Pre-employment drug screening

What You Will Do:
We are seeking a creative and motivated team member to plan, execute, and evaluate statewide aquatic education programming. This individual will work remotely and independently as they travel around the state with the First Catch Center (a trailer filled with educational fishing equipment.) Due to the nature of this position, evening and weekend work will be required. The position will offer programs in state parks and communities with audience bases ranging from family to adult classes. Program topics include, but are not limited to: tying on lures, casting, cleaning fish, cooking fish, tips for fishing for specific species, etc. Part of being an effective educator is taking care of course materials, therefore, the intern will be tasked with the upkeep of education equipment within the First Catch Center trailer. Candidate must enjoy working with families and adults, and enjoy spending time outdoors. Training is provided. Experience pulling a trailer is preferred but not required.

Qualified candidates must have either experience with education and outreach or working towards a relevant degree. Candidates will not be required to have a degree in fisheries or wildlife, although they will be considered. Other degrees of consideration will be those that include the aspects of education, communication, outreach, or outdoor recreation (i.e. agricultural education, science education, physical education, sports and recreation management, or a related field.) The candidate MUST have a strong foundation of fishing experience where they can work independently, care for the equipment, and answer questions of the public.

**Job Duties**
**What You'll Do:**
+ Learn to climb trees! (Yes, we will pay you to do that.)
+ Operate as a member of a tree crew while progressively learning new skills
+ Learn to perform all aspects of tree pruning and removal services safely and skillfully for clients. Including but not limited to:
+ Tree identification and industry pruning guidelines
+ Prune, thin, and remove deadwood throughout the tree canopy
+ Learn how to install cables, bracing, and lightning protection systems
+ Assist in removal of hazardous trees
+ Properly maintain, prepare and operate all tools and equipment including chainsaws, chippers, aerial lifts, and more.

**Qualifications**

+ Love of the outdoors
+ Preferred: Background in Forestry, Horticulture, Landscaping, or working at heights
+ Ability to complete the Davey Tree Trimmer Orientation Program upon hire

Summary of Work
In this role you will gain broad knowledge of the North Dakota legal system regarding parole and probation. You will gain an understanding of the circumstances why individuals are placed on parole and probation. Additionally, you will gain a basic understanding of a parole officer's responsibilities during an offender's time on supervision. You will observe and discuss general operations of parole and probation to include understanding judgments, court/parole conditions, intermediate measures, EPICS, and collateral work with stakeholders. You will spend time with a general caseload and specialty areas such as drug court, sex offender specialist, domestic violence and mental health. In general, you will get an in depth understanding into the profession of parole and probation.
Student Requirements
To be eligible for a North Dakota State Government Stipend Student Internship, a student:
Must be currently enrolled as a full-time student in an accredited college, university, or vocational-technical program in the United States, and
Must be at least of sophomore standing by the beginning of the internship (or must have completed the first year of a vocational/technical program by the beginning of the internship), and
Must have a cumulative Grade Point Average of at least 2.0 on a 4.0 scale.
Must be working in an internship that aligns with the student's academic major or career goals.

NDSH - Jamestown, ND - Student Nurse Intern The North Dakota State Hospital (NDSH), located in Jamestown, is a specialized psychiatric hospital that serves the whole state. Services focus on psychiatric rehabilitation, residential substance use disorders treatment, and residential treatment for sexually dangerous individuals.
As a Student Nurse Intern, you will gain on-the-job experience by providing patient care and completing nursing assessments for clients of the North Dakota State Hospital.
Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, you will provide and ensure quality nursing care is delivered to NDSH clients. You will relate to clients in a therapeutic manner, communicate pertinent information to staff, complete thorough and timely documentation, and create a safe and therapeutic environment for clients. In addition, you may administer medications under direct RN supervision.
To be considered for the Student Nurse Intern Position you must be actively enrolled in a board approved nursing education program at an in-state nursing program, you must be participating in clinical experiences as part of the educational program for academic credit, and you must have had two semesters or three quarters of student clinical nursing rotations prior to start the position of Student Nurse Intern. The supervised clinical practice of the internship student is based on content from required nursing courses that the student has completed and has received a grade acceptable for progression in the nursing program. You must maintain good academic standing in your undergraduate nursing program, and you must be approved by your educational institution to participate in this program for credit.
