The Corrections Qualified Mental Health Professional functions as a member of a multi-disciplinary treatment team providing a range of professional treatment services to mentally ill and/or mentally disabled prisoners within the Michigan Department of Corrections. They work with hospitalized, medically ill and other special populations. The Corrections Qualified Mental Health Professional is responsible for all aspects of the mental health evaluation, referral to the appropriate mental health level of care and treatment of the prisoners, monitoring their progress and ensuring continuity of care is not jeopardized. The Corrections Qualified Mental Health Professional provides a full range of psychosocial assessments and evaluations, interventions, consultations and referral services as assigned by the supervisor. They assist with placement and obtaining services when the prisoner discharges to the community.
Education
Possession of a master's degree with a major in psychology, social work, or counseling.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS AND INFORMATION:
Possession of a Michigan license to practice the applicable Qualified Mental Health Profession, which is required to practice as a psychologist, social worker, counselor, registered nurse, or other QMHP.
Positions in this class are test-designated and subject to pre-appointment, random-selection, and postaccident drug and alcohol testing.

The incumbent provides clinical case management services to the Veteran population enrolled at the Fargo VA Medical Center. Services include provision of high quality case management, advocacy, and coordination of linkages to other appropriate VA or community service providers and agencies as needed by the client. This work typically requires extensive coordination of services with a wide range of Veterans and through the VA Health Care system and is accomplished in collaboration with other members of the Behavioral Health Interdisciplinary Program team members, or specialty mental health interdisciplinary treatment teams as appropriate.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
Identification - Veterans are identified for the potential need for case management through self-referral, referral from family/ caregivers, referral through BHIP or community partners.
Crisis Intervention - As needed, the Counselor makes rapid assessments and develops crisis management plans to meet Veteran needs in the least restrictive setting; in the event of a medical or psychiatric emergency, Counselor will follow the protocol of the Medical Center.
Screening and Assessment Screening - Counselor will screen all referred Veterans for clinical eligibility for case management services using standardized level of care coordination tools in order to ensure consistency of screening and subsequent services.
Comprehensive Assessment - The Counselor will complete an assessment of the veteran's family, economic, community, and psychosocial support systems when clinically indicated; assessments must reflect a high level of skill in gathering, analyzing, interpreting, and documenting data that is pertinent and directly related to patient health care planning, treatment, education and case management; Veterans, family members, significant others and the interdisciplinary treatment team are involved in this process, whenever possible; goal of the communication is to highlight the veteran's strengths, limitations, and internal/ external supports and service needs in order to optimize the veteran's functional status and safely maintain the veteran in his/her home.
Mental Health Diagnosing using DSM-5 and I CD-10 Codes - Counselor demonstrates knowledge in DSM-5 diagnosing and documents diagnostic impressions in psychosocial assessments when appropriate; Counselor may function independently or within a team to determine an appropriate diagnosis and formulate a treatment plan based on that diagnosis.
Need Identification - Key concerns, needs and preferences of Veteran, family/ caregiver is identified; Counselor assigns initial level of care coordination, and further stratifies Veterans receiving complex care coordination into 'tiers' or 'levels' per the type of case management interventions and frequency of contacts.
Problem Solving and Goal Identification - Counselor initiates problem-solving strategies during which Veteran and family/caregivers desired or expected goal(s), and outcome(s) are recognized, organized and prioritized through a brokered process between the Veteran, family or caregiver and Counselor; ensures goals and objectives are formulated using specific, measurable, action-oriented, realistic and timebound (SMART) tenants.

The SUD Team provides specialized outpatient mental health programming and services for Veterans with Substance Use Disorders (SUD). The incumbent provides leadership, coordination, oversight, and integration to ensure efficient and effective provision of services. The SUD Coordinator is administratively responsible for the development and maintenance of policies and procedures and establishing appropriate methods for review and control of these program activities with expertise in ensuring staff safety, attaining, and maintaining all measurement goals, and maintaining continuous service throughout the region.
The SUD Coordinator is customer-service oriented, meeting a variety of emotional, psychological, behavioral, interpersonal, and social needs of patients with SUD. These specialized and highly professional services contribute significantly to the level of health care provided by this agency. The position exists to provide administrative leadership to plan, develop, implement, and oversee clinical services and programs for Veterans that have a high degree of clinical complexity. The incumbent has full supervisory responsibility for all therapists and administrative staff within the SUD. Supervisory responsibilities include performance evaluations, time, and leave, and hiring and disciplinary decisions. The SUD Coordinator may also have to assist with training and education to include residents, interns, and practicum students in psychology, unlicensed LPMHCs and social work.
The incumbent is also responsible for the adoption of evidence-based treatment for SUD and other related mental health conditions within the SUD and oversees the training and development of EBPs for staff and trainees within the program. The incumbent may also be asked to take on leadership roles within the VISN such as SUD leadership responsibilities. Incumbent is responsible for tracking and implementing actions plans to meet National, VISN, Hospital and MH ICC performance improvement measures.
Clinical Responsibilities: Provides a full range of evidence-based therapeutic interventions including individual therapy, group therapy, and psychodiagnostic evaluations as program needs dictate.
Program Coordination: Day-to-day management and operational aspects of the SUD. The incumbent provides leadership, guidance, and coordination of staff following the mission/vision of the Fargo VA Health Care System (Fargo VA HCS) and program direction of the Mental Health ICC.
Supervisory Responsibilities: Provides administrative and technical supervision necessary for accomplishing the work of the programs providing all orientation and program training to new staff and generally throughout the facility as needed.

The Early Childhood Behavioral Health Program (ECBH) provides home-based (Infant Mental Health) and community-based services (Incredible Years) for families with children ages 0-6. ECBH primarily uses The Infant Mental Health Model and The Incredible Years Model. Our goal is to promote development mentally, socially and emotionally.

The DDS program provides opportunities for clinical staff to work within a team of their peers, psychiatrists, psychologists, and BCBAs to ensure high quality services and meet the needs of our families. In this role you would receive ongoing training in the use of Applied Behavioral Analysis and other evidence-based strategies, which in turn allows the clinicians to implement the most appropriate interventions with their clients. In addition to ongoing training, this position will allow for the opportunity to grow and develop skills not only in individual and family therapy practice, but also developing skills in facilitating group therapy, during our ongoing social skill group sessions.
