This Correctional Support Licensed Trades Supervisor I (CSLTS I) is a Boiler Operator with a Stationary Engineer Certification at the Denver Correctional Complex. Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to: ensure the safety and security of the general public, staff and inmates; ensure efficient and effective operations of assigned physical plant areas and to train and supervise inmate workers. Position promotes the Colorado Department of Corrections Mission, Vision and Values while adhering to a high level of integrity and commitment. Safety and Security - position maintains safety and security of facility and work sites; through clear and accurate communication trains and guides inmates in the proper use of controlled items, tools, equipment and chemicals; enforces security procedures by conducting work site searches, strip searches and inmate shakedowns; monitors workplace environment and inmate behavior, paying close attention to changes, inappropriate activity or potential problems; initiates verbal reprimands when warranted and, if necessary, physically controls inmates with the proper application of restraints or "use of force" techniques; monitors, supervises and escorts inmates according to facility policy and limits inmate access to restricted areas; position performs inmate counts and transportation; responds to emergency situations such as fights, fires and escapes according to agency policy and writes and submits required reporting. Through conscientious observation, clear communications and adherence to agency Administrative Regulations, facility Implementation Adjustments and the Code of Penal Discipline, position promotes a safe and secure environment. Supervision - provides supervisory duties for assigned inmate workers; promotes a high level of performance by setting the work standard according to agency mission, vision and values. Trains and instructs staff and inmates in the appropriate use of all relevant tools, equipment and procedures to ensure efficient, safe and effective completion of assigned tasks; stresses safe work practices and the proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for self, staff and inmates; exemplifies a professional workforce that embodies honesty, integrity, and ethical behavior. Inmate Supervision - participates in the interview and hiring process; trains inmate workers in preventive maintenance, inspection and repairs for the boiler house and water treatment systems; monitors project progress, inspects work and ensures timely completion of tasks. Performs inmate evaluations, tracks and calculates inmate hours and pay, creates schedule and assigns tasks and resolves informal grievances according to agency policy; reduces inmate idleness, and creates real life work opportunities to prepare inmates for community reentry. Position may provide supervisory duties for additional inmate crews in the absence of another supervisor. Operations - position ensures the safe, efficient, compliant and cost effective execution of assigned tasks and projects, the cleanliness of physical plant and equipment by performing "hands on" instructional work alongside inmate workers. Position is responsible for facility central plant (boiler house) and water treatment plant; position also assists the HVAC specialist with the repair and maintenance of all climate control systems and, when needed, performing other building and grounds maintenance projects. Boiler House - monitors chillers, boilers, generator, water treatment and electrical switching devices; conducts testing, records results, and performs any needed maintenance and/or repairs. Position ensures a clean, safe and secure work environment through scheduled sanitation procedures, tool/key inventory control, and compliance to applicable health and safety codes. Position coordinates logistical support with other trades and shops in order to use resources efficiently; completes required documentation such as work orders and incident reports; ensures all work completed is in compliance with all applicable standards, codes, regulations, and policy. The SAP Coordinator oversees SAP policy development, appeal review, academic plan design, and SAP processing This role supervises or directs the workflow of staff reviewing SAP cases, mentors advisors on regulatory interpretation, and collaborates with Academic Affairs, Advising, and Registrar to ensure institutional alignment and accurate data across systems. This position requires expert-level regulatory knowledge, exceptional analytical skill, independent decision-making, and the ability to design and manage sophisticated compliance frameworks that directly impact enrollment, equity, retention, and federal funding. Position functions as SAP manager, knowledge expert, and mentor that oversees delegating and assignment of weekly appeals to the Advising team, and provides advice and guidance, as needed. This position also serves as an advocate and Single Point of Contact (SPOC) for unaccompanied homeless youth (UHY). We are seeking a visionary transportation leader who sees streets as public spaces that serve everyone with a deep understanding of engineering expertise and the courage to challenge conventional thinking, implementing innovative solutions that make Denver streets safer, more connected and more vibrant. This position is part of DOTI's Executive and Core Leadership teams, and the Director provides strategic direction, organizational management, and operational oversight across the division. This includes staff leadership, budgeting, performance reporting, business planning, and cross-departmental collaboration. In addition, this position provides leadership in the development of engineering policies, requirements for complex infrastructure projects, guiding multimodal engineering decisions, and representing DOTI in high-visibility internal and external settings. The key responsibilities of the Director include: Strategic Leadership & Safety Management * Serve in a delegated capacity as the City Traffic Engineer or associated duties. * Develop and implement comprehensive citywide transportation and safety policies, standards, and strategies for people walking, rolling, riding bikes, accessing transit and driving. * Lead implementation of Vision Zero and Safe Systems approaches including systemwide safety programs, traffic-calming initiatives, and data-driven risk mitigation in coordination with multiple Divisions throughout DOTI (Planning, Operations, Implementation). * Oversee development and reporting of transportation performance metrics and safety outcomes. * Refine engineering policies, standards, and procedures such as speed limit methodologies, mitigation practices, multimodal guidance. Traffic Engineering & Operations * Direct multimodal engineering design, regulation, and operations for streets, intersections, signals, and intelligent transportation systems * Approve or authorize traffic signal timing plans, congestion mitigation strategies, and multimodal design elements. * Provide technical guidance across all phases of project development, from planning through final design and construction. * Decision making that supports long-term operations, maintenance and asset health. * Ensure compliance with MUTCD, AASHTO, ADA, state law, and the Denver Revised Municipal Code. Staff Mentorship & Organizational Culture * Provide mentorship and technical coaching without formal supervisory duties. * Promote collaboration, innovation, inclusion, and continuous improvement. Leadership, Supervision & Collaboration * Lead, supervise, and develop a high-performing team of engineers, analysts, and technical professionals. * Establish division priorities, allocate staff and financial resources, and manage division budgets. * Build strong partnerships across DOTI, city departments, regional agencies, state, federal, and community organizations. * Provide direction for transportation-training programs for staff, contractors, and community partners. Examples of Work * Represent DOTI in technical reviews, stakeholder meetings, policy discussions, emergency response, and event-related planning. * Provide advanced technical review for major development projects, multimodal corridor designs, regional transit interfaces, and complex interchange projects. * Guide traffic management planning and operations for major construction projects, utility work, large-scale events, and professional sporting activities. * Provide expert analysis and documentation for NEPA processes and major capital programs. * Mentor engineering and planning staff across DOTI and partner agencies, offering technical coaching and situational leadership. * Lead or contribute to policy development including speed limit methodologies, mitigation protocols, design standards, and traffic impact study guidance. * Review construction phasing, maintenance of traffic (MOT) plans, and design submittals. * Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams on multimodal guidance, multimodal safety practices, and emerging mobility concepts. * Approve implementation of traffic signal timing and multimodal operational strategies. * Authorize installation, removal, or modification of traffic control devices citywide. * Direct emergency or special-event traffic management in coordination with public safety agencies. What You'll Bring Our ideal candidate has some or all the following experience, skills, and characteristics: * Strong technical background in traffic engineering, multimodal design, transportation engineering, delivery, and leading multi-disciplinary teams. * Comprehensive knowledge of federal, national, state, and local engineering standards and policies. * Ability to provide high-level technical leadership on complex multidisciplinary projects. * Excellent communication skills and comfort engaging with diverse stakeholders. * Strong political acumen and ability to navigate complex or contentious issues. * Experience working in matrixed, cross-departmental environments. * Commitment to equity, accessibility, and multimodal mobility. * Ability to build productive relationships with internal teams, partner agencies, community groups, and elected officials. * Deep knowledge of multimodal design, traffic operations, construction sequencing, and MOT. * Experience with the design and delivery of transportation projects. * Strong interpersonal and consensus-building skills. * Forward-thinking, innovative approach to emerging mobility practices. Required Minimum Qualifications * Education requirement: Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Architecture. * Experience Requirement: Five (5) years of experience at the type and level of functional or operational management, which must have included management of licensed engineer or architect supervisors. * Education/Experience Equivalency: No substitution of experience for education is permitted. * Additional appropriate education may be substituted for experience requirements. License/Certifications: * Requires a valid Driver's License at the time of application. * Requires registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) by the Colorado State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers at the time of application. Or requires registration as an Architect by the Colorado State Board of Registration at the time of application. * Registration in another state will be accepted in lieu of this requirement, provided that the applicant has Colorado registration at completion of probation. * Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment.
