Colorado Parks and Wildlife.DESCRIPTION OF JOB: Position is responsible for accepting hunter-harvested deer and elk heads, collecting data, payment and samples for chronic wasting disease (CWD) testing. Position is also responsible for driving relay routes to transport hunter-harvested deer and elk from collection sites to research sampling sites in all weather conditions. Training is provided on how to remove tissue samples from deer and elk for CWD testing and to perform mandatory inspections of hunter-harvested moose, bighorn sheep, mountain goats, black bears and mountain lions. * The purpose of the Youth Internship Program for Natural Resources is to employ and expose students and recent graduates to natural resource careers within Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW). This position will provide the selected candidate with a variety of learning experiences (i.e. ride along with officers, wildlife surveys, educational activities, seminars, trainings) and a broader understanding of CPW and the various careers within the agency. * This position will primarily support Area 14 Law Enforcement and the Southeast Education and Volunteer Sections at the Southeast Region office. The position will assist in preparation and presentation of education programs such as school programs, fishing clinics, youth environmental education, and hunting clinics. The position will support the Volunteer Program by assisting with volunteer trainings and entering data for the Volunteer Coordinator. * This position will also support the front desk at the Southeast Region office by providing customer service to the public. This will include giving information to customers, including sales of wildlife products (hunting and fishing licenses, refund and duplicate licenses, and hunter education cards), and parks products (parks passes, OHV permits, snowmobile and boat registrations), as well as maintenance of customer records in CSS (name and address changes, hunter education verification, and other documentation as needed). There may be times this position will be required to collect CWD samples and data from hunters or perform mandatory animal checks. Interns will have to be self-motivated and somewhat independent. Communication, flexibility and patience are important to make this internship successful. BASIC REQUIREMENTS: * Valid driver's license required. * Must be able to work outside in all weather conditions and lift 50lbs. * Ability to interact positively with the public in various situations. * Weekend and evening work is required. * Hunting and fishing experience helpful. * Applicants may be subject to successful completion of a comprehensive background check. * Must be willing and able to work 40 hours per week. This position provides you the opportunity to work for a county that thrives on working collaboratively and overcoming challenges. The Park Ranger Intern provides work assistance to the Park Ranger team at Jefferson County Parks and Open Space. The Ranger Intern will also complete a self-guided project by the end of the internship period. SCHEDULE: This is a temporary position scheduled for 8 weeks and requires full on-site support 3 days per week to be worked from 8 AM - 4 PM with flexibility allowed for chosen days. Prior to the start of the summer internship, one full day of training on Sunday, April 12, 2026, is required. COMPENSATION: Hiring Range: $20.00 - $21.00 USD Hourly Compensation will be determined based on education, experience, and skills. BENEFITS: Please note that this is a temporary, non-benefited position scheduled to work approximately 20-24 hours per week. There is no holiday pay. ESSENTIAL DUTIES: * Work with Park Ranger FTO's and other Rangers as assigned to gain experience in the field duties and operations of a large Ranger team. This may include field projects, regular patrolling duties as assigned, medicals, search and rescue operations, learning emergency accesses, etc. * Assist the Ranger education team and learn the coordination and operation of an education program at Lookout Mountain Nature Center. This may include school programs, pop-up booths, Camp Junior Rangers, public programs, and admin duties as assigned. * Take personal initiative in gaining stewardship education experience by doing solo patrols when not with Ranger team. * Assist with visitor count surveys when not with Ranger team. REQUIRED TRAININGS: * Receive training in stewardship education and authority of the resource contacts by attending the Park Patroller Training in April. * Receive a CPR/First-Aid Certification by attending the Park Patroller Training, if not already attained by an outside agency. This role will manage existing resources as well as conduct outreach to employers who may provide experiential and employment opportunities. The Coordinator is responsible for all tracking of internships and reporting data as required. Assist in maintaining inventory for the Career Closet. Primary Duties * Develop and implement MOU agreements, and other required documentation, to formalize internship opportunities for students from CSU Pueblo * Serve as liaison for academic departments, university administrators, department chairs, employers, and students participating in internships. * Manage existing and create new internship resources. * Provide individual and group career advising which focuses on goals and value clarification, career assessment, self-assessment, and strategies for career planning and research. * Develop and lead career services workshops and internship-related programming, working in conjunction with the Career Center's on-campus recruiting programs and systems. * Conduct outreach and marketing to off-campus employers who may provide internship opportunities. * Work closely with the Executive Director of SLiCE and supervise student career assistant(s) to provide exceptional service and programming to the university. * Develop and prepare reports, advertising and marketing as needed. * Coordinate annual Internship Fair, assist with Career Fair(s), Dining Etiquette training, and other special career related topics geared towards student success. * Manage and maintain the Career Center's web-based systems as well as the department website while meeting the university's requirements for all of the Center's web resources.
