The starting salary for this position is $1609.38- $1,770/ biweekly ($41,844 - $46,020 /annually). This position receives a $2000/month housing stipend. There are 26 biweekly pay periods in a year.

What You Will Do
No two days are exactly the same in CDOT highway maintenance. Your daily work activities change based on project needs and also vary based on weather, environment, and road conditions. You will be on-call on a rotating basis as well as subject to call to respond to weather and other emergencies. You will typically work in a team environment, as each maintenance patrol location has at least one lead highway maintenance specialist and multiple highway maintenance specialists.
Your main job activities include:
* Plowing snow
* Operating heavy equipment, such as tandem dump truck, loader, tractor mower, etc.
* Mowing grass and weeds
* Removing debris from roadways, including rock, mud, and deceased animals
* Removing debris from culverts, tunnels, etc.
* Shoveling gravel, sand, concrete, and asphalt
* Digging ditches
* Installing and repairing guardrail, highway markers and signs, warning signs, and lighting
* Filling potholes and roadway cracks
* Setting out signs and cones for traffic control
* Removing and covering graffiti
* Installing pavement markings/striping
* Stopping or slowing traffic in emergency situations
* Maintaining equipment and performing minor repairs
* Following safety guidance and wearing proper safety equipment

Your Work Environment

Conditions of Employment:
* Must possess a current, valid regular driver's license.

This program not only focuses on the technical aspects of machinery operation but also emphasizes the importance of performing various manual labor tasks as a key member of a highway or bridge maintenance team. A significant component of your training will be dedicated to fostering a safe work environment, which is essential for your safety, the safety of your coworkers, and the general public. You will be trained to adhere to established safety protocols and utilize the appropriate protective gear at all times. Throughout the program, you will learn to conduct thorough visual assessments, make necessary manual adjustments, and effectively communicate your findings both in writing and verbally. Maintaining vigilance in the work area is vital to mitigate potential risks and hazards. Additionally, under the mentorship of an experienced instructor, you will acquire the necessary licensing and certification to operate heavy construction machinery, including Heavy Truck/Tandem Axle (HT/TA) vehicles and loaders with a bucket capacity of 4.5 cubic yards or less, ensuring you are well-prepared for a successful career in this field.

* Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.

Job Duties
What You'll Do:
Learn to be a tree doctor! Introduce career orientated students to exceptional opportunities in the industry including tree care, tree climbing, chainsaw use, plant health care and customer service. Internships in each division may vary in length depending on availability. Interns will be assigned a manager who will mentor them through a variety of job experiences within the industry. Throughout your experience, you will work on residential and commercial properties and in an office setting.
HOURS:
40-50 hours per week; Monday - Friday with some Saturdays
Qualifications
What We're Looking For:
