Representation:

Legal Advice:
Provide legal counsel to the Iowa Department of Revenue on various agency matters, which encompasses guidance on complex tax laws, regulatory compliance and justice.
Tax Law Expertise:
Advise and represent the Department of Revenue on a variety of taxes, such as personal and business income, sales/use, franchise, alcohol, cigarette, excise, property, and special local option taxes. Renders decisions on the points of law or construction of an act and directs corrective action, payment or relief as provided under the laws or regulations.
Drafting and Opinions:
Prepare and review legal orders and formal responses to tax opinion requests made to the AttorneyGeneral or Department of Revenue. Draft official documents as needed.
Tobacco Enforcement:
Enforce state laws regulating tobacco manufacturing, import, and sales; manage legal interests in tobacco litigation, settlement enforcement, and challenges from tobacco companies. Ensure compliance with the master settlement agreement, escrow statues and regulated registrations.
Statutory Interpretation:
A revenue-section attorney interprets and applies complex state and federal tax statutes and regulations, providing clear, written and oral legal guidance to revenue agencies, courts, and other officials. Apply strong skills in statutory construction, administrative law, and interpreting complex state and federal statutes.
Legal Research and Writing:
Conduct sophisticated legal research; write high-quality legal materials, including pleadings, motions, memoranda, and opinions.
Collaboration:
Work alongside other government attorneys and agencies, including technical support to communities and local officials on tobacco and revenue issues.
Preferred Qualifications:
* Must be licensed to practice law in Iowa or able to obtain a license to practice law in Iowa within six months of job offer.

The General Litigation Division seeks an experienced attorney to defend the City in complex federal court litigation challenging City policies and programs. The NYC Law Department's General Litigation Division handles cases that challenge important City programs in diverse areas including education, health care, public assistance benefits, prison conditions, foster care, freedom of information, campaign finance, and election law. Division attorneys appear in both State and federal court. Many of the division's cases are brought as class actions in federal court and raise complex and novel issues of statutory and constitutional construction. Division lawyers are responsible for their own caseloads and handle court conferences, oral arguments, discovery, the preparation of legal papers, and hearings.
After the completion of orientation, attorneys hired by the Law Department will have the opportunity to elect to work from home under one of the following two programs. The first option allows attorneys to work remotely on a limited and irregular basis. The second option is a Citywide pilot program, which allows participants to select two set days to work from home each week. The two days will need to be approved by the attorney's division and take into consideration the needs of the division, as the pilot program requires more than 50% staff coverage each day. In addition, if an attorney needs to appear in court, a client meeting or other in-person work related event on a set work from home day, they will need to attend to those in-person responsibilities and will not be able to work from home that day. Participants in the pilot program must set one work from home location where they will work remotely. This pilot program is currently being tested Citywide to determine its efficacy for City agencies and is not yet a permanent program.

Description Summary: The Unaccompanied Minors Program (UMP) at Catholic Charities Community Services protects the rights of young immigrants to make informed decisions about their lives. Annually, we help thousands of young immigrants facing family separation, government detention, and deportation. Outside the courtroom, UMP welcomes recently arrived young immigrants with educational and integration opportunities, including the country's first medical-legal partnership for unaccompanied minors, a recreational soccer league, and partnerships with New York City museums, dance theaters, and other cultural institutions to introduce immigrant youth to the world of opportunities at their doorstep in their new home. The UMP staff attorney works under the supervision of a Supervising Attorney and alongside a case manager and paralegal to provide legal services to young people who are, or have been, in federal custody under the Office of Refugee Resettlement. In addition to immigration legal services, the UMP staff attorney defends the rights of young people to family unity, safety and bodily integrity while in government custody, and other emergent legal needs of immigrant youth. The position includes extensive contact with youth, including youth who have suffered abuse, abandonment, neglect, or other trauma. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Provide direct representation to unaccompanied minors in immigration and family matters before USCIS, EOIR, and state family courts.
Provide legal services to children who are detained in Office of Refugee Resettlement shelters throughout downstate New York. Core services include legal intake interviews, bond hearings for youth seeking less restrictive custody, federal litigation for separated youth seeking immediate family reunification, referrals to and collaboration with other legal service or litigation organizations as needed to protect the rights of youth in federal custody.
Appear as friend-of-the-court and record counsel at regular detained dockets in immigration court to provide case updates for youth pending release from ORR custody.
Maintain electronic and paper case files, monthly statistics and case reports, and other reporting to stakeholders.
Train, mentor and manage legal interns, fellows and volunteers for work on individual cases, presentations, legal screenings, and related work.
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work: This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are 9:00 AM to 5 PM Monday - Friday. The Procurement Services Unit of the Administration Division of the Law Department is accepting applications for an Assistant Corporation Counsel position in their Unit. The Procurement Services Unit is responsible for conducting and supervising all procurement and contract activity for the entire Law Department. ACCs in the Procurement Unit regularly interact with the Law Department's Managing Attorney and other agency-wide managers to discuss and provide guidance on all procurement issues and contract matters. The District Court Deputy District Attorney (DDA) carries out the charges and obligations of the District Attorney and represents the People of the State of Colorado on felony cases in Jefferson and Gilpin counties. Develops a felony caseload from initial arrest to trial and sentencing. Collaborates with victims, law enforcement, attorneys, and district attorney staff to achieve just outcomes, further the goals of the District Attorney, and fulfill all statutory, constitutional, and ethical obligations of a prosecutor.
District Court DDAs have less than eight years relevant experience and Senior DDAs have more than eight years relevant experience. This position will be a District Court DDA or Senior DDA depending on experience.
COMPENSATION:
The successful applicant with less than 8 years of total relevant experience will be titled Deputy District Attorney, District Court, at an annual salary range of $106,000 - $156,000, depending on experience. The successful applicant with 8 or more years of total relevant experience, three of which include felony prosecution in the state of Colorado, will be titled Senior Deputy District Attorney, at an annual salary range of $127,000 - $184,000, depending on experience.
Compensation will be determined based on education, experience and skills.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Represents the People of the State of Colorado in jury trials and other matters occurring in the District Court in Jefferson and Gilpin Counties.
Supervises development of felony criminal cases from initial arrest through trial, sentencing, and any post-trial matters, including legal research, professional correspondence, and composition of legal documents including motions, opinions, briefs, and other pleadings as required.
Communicates trial readiness and case dispositions with victims, law enforcement partners, district attorney staff, and other stakeholders. Demonstrate the essential trial skills involved in jury selection, opening statements, direct and cross-examination and closing arguments.
Proactively coordinates with law enforcement partners to ensure flow of information and compliance with discovery obligations.
Exercises discretion in charging, case dispositions, and sentencing recommendations in a manner that displays fluency in evidence-based practices, safeguards our community, and reduces unequitable treatment of justice-involved individuals.
May be assigned to appear in Gilpin County on criminal matters.
May be assigned to specialized roles including prosecution of juvenile offenders, problem-solving courts, intake, appeals, economic crimes, or grand jury.
Additional duties include approximately one week per year serving as 24-hour on-call legal support to law enforcement and responding to the scenes of active investigations pursuant to office guidance and approximately one instance per year conducting bond hearings on either a Saturday or a Sunday.

The Family Court Division is currently seeking applications from admitted attorneys with a minimum of two years litigation experience for the position of Assistant Corporation Counsel in the Division's Interstate Child Support Unit (ICSU) in its Brooklyn, Bronx, Manhattan, and Queens offices. Attorneys assigned to the unit litigate child support cases in the New York State Family Court. Attorneys appear primarily before support magistrates and Family Court judges.
The attorney is responsible for the preparation and presentation of petitions to establish paternity and child support as well as appearing on and defending applications for modification of previously established orders. The attorney will also prepare and present enforcement matters, file and respond to motions, file objections and rebuttals, conduct discovery, including document production and inspection, prepare memorandum of law, interviews clients and witnesses, negotiate settlements and conduct hearings and trials. Attorneys assigned to the unit may be required to work on cases and other responsibilities in the evening and weekend hours.
Attorneys will participate in a citywide rotation of night and weekend court assignments in the juvenile delinquency unit. In addition, attorneys may be required to attend community events and meetings in the evening and weekend hours.
After the completion of orientation, attorneys hired by the Law Department will have the opportunity to elect to work from home under one of the following two programs. The first option allows attorneys to work remotely on a limited and irregular basis. The second option is a Citywide pilot program, which allows participants to select two set days to work from home each week. The two days will need to be approved by the attorney's division and take into consideration the needs of the division, as the pilot program requires more than 50% staff coverage each day. In addition, if an attorney needs to appear in court, a client meeting or other in-person work related event on a set work from home day, they will need to attend to those in-person responsibilities and will not be able to work from home that day. Participants in the pilot program must set one work from home location where they will work remotely. This pilot program is currently being tested Citywide to determine its efficacy for City agencies and is not yet a permanent program.
