Qualifications

It is a physical fitness assessment which consists of four components (push-ups, sit-ups, Illinois Agility Run and a 1.5 Mile Run). The APAT is designed to measure the current level of general physical fitness of an applicant, which serves as an indicator of an applicant's ability to safely complete a vigorous physical training program. General Medical Requirements: As determined by OPM the duties of this position require moderate to arduous physical exertion involving walking and standing, use of firearms, and exposure to inclement weather. Manual dexterity with comparatively free motion of fingers, wrist, elbows, shoulders, hips and knee joints is required. Arms, hands, legs and feet must function sufficiently in order for applicants to perform the duties satisfactorily.

* Recruitment Incentive: Applicants may be eligible for a $40,000 recruitment incentive in accordance with regulatory requirements. The first installment of $15,000 will be paid following successful completion of Secret Service Criminal Investigator training. A second installment of $10,000 will be paid following one year of service post training and an acceptable performance rating. The final installment of $15,000 will be paid after a third year of service post training and an acceptable performance rating. Provision of these payments require the execution of a three-year Continued Service Agreement (CSA) with the agency. Newly hired employees who resign from the USSS prior to the expiration of the CSA will be required to repay the recruitment incentive. (NOTE: Eligibility is limited to "Newly appointed" Federal employees as defined by 5 CFR 575.102).
Applicants selected for this position will be required to sign a CSA before being assigned to an initial training class. The CSA will commit the applicant to a specified period of employment with the Secret Service upon the successful completion of training.

Develops and maintains professional relationships with local agencies serving Veterans including: Veterans Administration, Senior and Disabled Services, Adult and Family Services, Michigan Department of Veterans Affairs and others service organizations.
Maintains current Veterans publications such as Federal, State and County information and instructions and resource material on V.A. Medical Centers, outpatient clinics and their programs.
Coordinates with Van Buren County Transit Veterans' transportation program to provide services as needed.
Composes correspondence and reports regarding inquiries on other Veterans related matters.
Assists with grant submissions and reporting requirements.
Orders supplies and services for the Veterans' Services Office.
Executes an outreach program to provide services to Veterans and their dependents particularly in senior living/adult care facilities in Van Buren County.
Assist in Management of Emotional Support Animal Program.
Assist in the management and execution of the Van Buren County Horticulture Program.
Assist in the Execution of the Veterans Standdown in the Fall.
QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE:
Associates Degree and one to three years of experience in a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience in veterans' services, human relations, social service fields or business. Must have a valid driver's license. Service in the Armed Forces of the United States, with a discharge under honorable conditions is preferred. Veterans' Services Officers must complete the National Association of County Veterans' Service Officer training and Department of Veterans' Services certification process within one (1) year of their initial hire date and continuing Education Units (CEU's) every year thereafter.

These selection criteria are listed in detail in the Code of Maryland Regulations 12.04.01.04 and include the following: U.S. Citizenship Must be at least 21 years of age Satisfactory background investigation, including a check of criminal history Oral interview Physical examination Possession of a driver's license valid in the State of Maryland. 2. Employees in this classification are subject to call-in and, therefore, will be required to provide the employer with a phone number where they can be reached. 3. Employees in this classification may be required to bear firearms and to demonstrate practical knowledge and proficiency in the safe use and care of firearms on a periodic basis as required by the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commission. 4. Employees in this classification are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulations 17.04.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.
