Job Duties:

Your Specific Responsibilities:
Employee will provide basic nursing services as allowed by RN scope of practice to students. under the direct and/or indirect supervision of the Community Health Nursing Supervisor.
Following Brevard County Health Department and Brevard Public Schools guidelines administers first aid, daily medications, and emergency medications to students and/or staff as requested and ordered by a physician. These include but are not limited to intermittent clean catheterization, gastrostomy tube feeding and monitoring blood glucose.
Organize and assist with state mandated health screenings such as hearing/vision, scoliosis, and body mass index.
Maintains clean health unit/work area and does periodic inventory of medical supplies needed.
Maintains accurate and timely records/documentation of all work performed.
Establishes and maintains good working relationships with all staff members.
Employee will assist the health screening team with implementing/scheduling all health screenings for school district students in State mandated grade levels. This will include body mass index, hearing and vision. Employee will assist with collecting and inputting screening data into HMS to be uploaded by the School Health Program in Tallahassee as required. Employee will sort and prepare mailings to parents/guardians of students screened, the results of their State mandated screening, to include 1st and 2nd letter notification and 3rd notification via phone contact.
Attend School Health in-services as scheduled, complete mandated training, accurately submit timesheet and mileage in a timely fashion, accurately submit Daily Report in a timely fashion.
Performs related work as required.
May be required to work before, during and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency. Assists the School Physician in physical, visual and auditory screening examinations of students;
Administers first aid and emergency treatment to students;
Prepares and maintains health records for school authorities;
Assists at school immunization clinics;
Arranges to transport sick or injured students to hospital, home, doctor's or dentist's office in cases of emergency;
Inspects the school plant, playground and cafeteria and reports on general safety and sanitary conditions;
Orders, inventories and oversees the storage of first aid and related health supplies and equipment;

* Collect subjective and objective health data from clients and communicate information with the Registered Nurse and/or outside providers. Coordinate Telehealth appointments with parents for prescription refills, illness management, and transport cadets to outside appointments or emergency situations as needed.
* Take vital signs as needed and document data in the client's health record. Obtain specimens for laboratory examination. Observe and monitor patients for changes in health status and report information to the Registered Nurse.
* In the absence of a Registered Nurse, screen applicant files and records to determine if potential students are medically eligible and make recommendations to the Director.
* In the absence of the Registered Nurse, the LPN on duty will be primary POC for medical emergencies and will determine if a cadet requires outside medical attention (calling EMS, transporting to urgent care and/or Emergency Room) and be primary medical POC for the shift supervisor on your shift.
* Reinforce education provided by the Registered Nurse and/or medical provider. Reinforce education for FLYCA staff/students.
* Be present for all events that fall on your shift (Family Day, Graduation, In processing, Home Pass). Assist licensed providers with conducting health examinations.
