Position Summary
The Department of Veterans Affairs is seeking licensed General Dentists to support the Senator Elizabeth Dole 21st Century Veterans Healthcare and Benefits Improvement Act Dental Pilot Program. Dentists will review and assess community care dental treatment plans, ensuring compliance with VA standards, accuracy of proposed care, and high-quality outcomes for Veterans.
Primary Responsibilities Key Responsibilities
Review ~8,750 community dental treatment plans annually.
Verify accuracy, necessity, and appropriateness of proposed treatments.
Document findings and recommendations in VA's electronic record system.
Communicate with VA and community dentists to clarify or adjust treatment plans.
Participate in peer reviews, training, and quality assurance activities.
Submit monthly reports on activities and outcomes.
Minimum Qualifications Qualifications
DMD or DDS degree from an ADA-accredited institution.
Must have a clear, active, and unrestricted license in the State of Missouri.
Successful completion of NBDE exams.
Minimum 2 years of recent full-time clinical experience; VA experience preferred.
Strong communication, organizational, and time-management skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft 365 and electronic health record systems.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK
In this role, you will supervise the daily work of the institution's dental staff and be responsible for all aspects of the clinical dental services provided to the inmate population, including periodic examinations, diagnosing oral diseases, and treating injuries. The ideal candidate will have three years of clinical experience, preferably in a community based- clinic setting. Services are performed in a hospital-based clinic and general clinic settings. As a result, dental services are integrated with health system processes and infrastructure support including electronic health records, medical dictation and the availability of dental and medical specialists in both the hospital and satellite clinics.
Besides being a full-scope Medical Center and Hospital, the San Mateo Medical Center operates five dental clinics located in San Mateo (39th Avenue Clinic), Redwood City (Fair Oaks Health Center- FOHC), Daly City (Daly City Clinic), Coastside Clinic (Half Moon Bay), and a Mobile Dental Clinic (MDC). These clinics treat children and adults, homeless and transitional populations, and patients with HIV diagnosis.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK
In this role, you will supervise the daily work of the institution's dental staff and be responsible for all aspects of the clinical dental services provided to the inmate population, including periodic examinations, diagnosing oral diseases, and treating injuries. You will provide basic dental care and perform all dental treatment; assist specialists in the performance of treatment and related duties while on-site; and assure that adequate security, tool control, and Toxic and Caustic Control are carried out within the dental office. You will also consult with and refer inmate patients to physicians, oral surgeons, and other health care professionals.
Work Schedule and Additional Information:
* Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
* Work hours: 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch break

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
* Graduation from an approved school of dentistry.
* Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within three months of graduating with a qualifying degree.
Special Requirement:
* You must possess a license to practice dentistry issued by the Pennsylvania State Board of Dentistry.
Other Requirements:
* Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
* PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
* You must be able to perform essential job functions.
Legal Requirement:
* You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
