***$3,000 HIRING INCENTIVE*** Salary: $20.02 Hourly, depending on qualifications Pay Grade: E The float pool staff will work across all the program areas with the SD Human Services Center: Adult Acute, Adolescents, Psych Rehab, Geriatrics and the Intensive Treatment Unit. Float pool employees will work in the areas of highest need and will be assigned to an area daily.
These positions perform personal care services by completing patient care assignments, providing an atmosphere conducive to treatment and supporting patients with mental health and chemical dependency issues in an effort to meet the patients' needs.
Licenses and Certifications:
The Human Services Center provides a comprehensive employee orientation including completion of the CertifiedNurse Aide (CNA) certification.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
Knowledge of:
mental illness, serious emotional disturbance, and chemical dependency;
patient safety procedures;
patient rights and confidentiality;
CPR and first aid;
Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NCI) Techniques.
Ability to:
accurately observe, recognize, report, and record physical symptoms and significant behavioral characteristics of patients;
carry out individual program plans for treatment of patients;
relate to and work constructively with patients;
detect significant or unusual patient behavior;
verbalize the needs of patients;
provide personal care services to patients;
follow oral and written instructions;
follow established policies and procedures;
listen and be empathetic with patients;
assist in lifting and transferring of patients;
lift 75 pounds;
work with patients displaying aggressive behavior;
communicate information clearly and concisely.
This position is eligible for Veterans' Preference per ARSD 55:10:02:08.

A CertifiedNurseAssistant (CNA) is an important and valuable member to the South Dakota Veterans Home by "taking care of America's heroes" by assisting with day to day resident care and engaging the residents in various household activities / events.
This role performs basic resident care, assists with day to day resident and household activities, and assists licensed health care personnel in the provision of routine medical care in a household-type environment at the South Dakota State Veterans Home. Physical activities may include squatting, kneeling, bending, twisting, lifting, and more.
Shift differential is provided for evening, night, and weekend shifts.
Licenses and Certifications:
Must possess or be able to obtain a South Dakota CertifiedNurse Aide certification within four months of hire date.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
Knowledge of:
English grammar, spelling, and punctuation;
arithmetic sufficient to add, subtract, multiply, and divide;
basic human hygiene requirements;
resident safety procedures and practices;
procedures for documenting resident care;
basic computer operation and software use;
protective health measures.
Ability to:
communicate information clearly and concisely;
count accurately and record numerical and alphabetical data;
compare information and recognize discrepancies;
observe, recognize, and report abnormal physical symptoms;
assist residents with personal care and hygiene needs;
exercise tact and discretion in dealing with others;
follow established policies and procedures;
understand and apply instructions;
use a computer and applicable data entry programs;
lift 50 pounds.
