    This is an intensive training program in the UVA General Ultrasound lab specifically designed for ultrasound students currently in a formal Ultrasound Degree Program. There will be specially designed scanning and departmental competency and checkpoints at hire, 90 days and 6 months. Upon successful completion of these competencies and surpassing each checkpoint, the internship could be extended up to one calendar year at which time the intern will receive an offer to become a full or part time employee of the General Ultrasound lab, depending on availability. * Under supervision of Registered Sonographers the Sonographer Intern studies, trains and performs required ultrasound procedures as outlined per orientation and competency schedule for the year. Under supervision of a Registered Sonographer, the Sonographer Intern records anatomical, pathological, an/or physiological data for interpretation by a physician * Assists the Registered sonographer and physician in gathering * Obtains, reviews, and integrates pertinent patient medical history and supporting clinical date to facilitate optimum diagnostic results. * Provides patient education related to medical ultrasound * Records and processes sonographic data. * Provides patient services in a variety of medical settings * Performs quality assurance checks on equipment, ensuring proper safety standards are met MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Education: Currently enrolled in an accredited Ultrasound program Experience: none required License/Certification: ARDMS certified or eligible. Must become registered in the Vascular Ultrasound Specialty within one year of graduation, if hired on as part or full time. American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider BLS certification.
