Description of Department: The mission of Facilities Services is to operate, maintain, and renew campus facilities to support the mission of the campus, using quality materials and workmanship to ensure a safe, reliable, attractive, and efficient physical environment.
The Facility Services Grounds Department at the State University of New York at Oswego invites applications to fill temporary, full-time Facility Operations Assistant 1, Grade 6 positions, to assist with snow plowing, snow removal, equipment maintenance, spring cleanup, and other duties as assigned.

Salary: $17.35/hour. In accordance with the CSEA Operational Services Unit Agreement.

Description of Responsibilities:
Operational Needs:
* Must be physically able to perform the duties of the job.
* An employee in this position must be dependable and able to work in all types of weather.
* Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
* Knowledge of snow removal equipment and operation.
Job Duties:
* Provides visitors with information regarding tourist attractions, office locations and the facility's rules and regulations.
* Inspects, checks and patrols areas to detect vandalism or non-adherence to safety procedures; reports defects, possible hazards or potentially dangerous conditions in the building and adjacent areas.
* According to direction from higher level staff, performs general grounds maintenance tasks such as clearing sites, raking or tilling soil, mowing lawns, applying fertilizers and pesticides, cutting brush and wood, trimming and removing trees and shrubs, maintaining roads and sidewalks, and removing snow, trash and other obstructions from the building and surrounding areas. Loads trucks with debris, dirt and other materials.
* Sets up chairs, podiums and related equipment for conferences, seminars and special events, and loads, unloads and assembles furniture and equipment as assigned.
* Assists higher level staff in performing routine and unskilled work such as carrying supplies and equipment, erecting ladders and scaffolding, cleaning, flushing and repairing gutters and drains, removing materials from construction sites, preparing surfaces and spreading paint, digging ditches, loading and unloading trucks, carrying bricks and mortar, performing rough carpentry and masonry work, and cleaning the work site after repair work is completed.
* Operates self-propelled and motorized equipment, such as lawn mowers, pumps, compressors, vehicles, small trucks, light construction equipment, electric pallet jacks and forklifts.
* Assists higher level staff in performing routine and unskilled tasks in the repair and maintenance of automotive equipment and other machinery such as mounting and dismounting snowplows, salt spreaders, engines, transmissions and differentials, performing minor engine tune-ups, changing oil, tires, and batteries and cleaning and polishing vehicles.
* Cleans buildings and facilities, which includes but is not limited to: vacuuming, mopping, and waxing floors; emptying trash receptacles; washing lavatories and fixtures within; dusting and polishing wood and metal fixtures.
* Performs a variety of routine building maintenance tasks such as unclogging toilets and sinks, and changing light bulbs and tubes.
* Collects fees and tickets for parking and special events and prepares reports of revenue and tickets collected and issued.
* Directs patrons to designated parking areas and/or specific parking spots or locations; directs persons or vehicles not authorized to use the parking facilities to alternate locations; inspects vehicles for current and correct parking permits; assures that cars are parked in the correct area and not in reserved or handicapped spaces; and keeps records of vehicles for which parking privileges have been suspended or revoked and controls access to parking areas accordingly.
* Responds to patron complaints from people denied access by explaining parking requirements and suggesting alternate parking areas.
* May lead volunteers, students, and inmates assigned to work crews by making assignments, distributing, and accounting for equipment and supplies, demonstrating the proper methods of completing work, and supervising the on-site performance of activities and tasks.
* May travel to other offices within the State or facility to pick-up or move equipment, supplies or persons.
* Moves heavy supplies, furniture, and equipment.
* Loads and unloads heavy equipment, supplies, and furniture from trucks and rail cars by physically lifting items or operating a hand truck, forklift, or pallet jack.
* Moves items to and from storerooms and/or warehouses. May maintain storage areas.
* Assists truck drivers and motor vehicle operators in picking up and delivering items. May drive delivery vehicles.
* Moves heavy furniture, office equipment, and records.
* Sets up and removes furniture, partitions, and equipment for office moves, conferences, meetings, and special events.
* Delivers forms and supplies to various offices.
* Assists in the receiving and shipping of various office materials.
* May perform office-related activities such as filing, alphabetizing, photocopying, sorting and delivering mail, inventorying and storing records or supplies on shelves, bins and/or on the floor.

Minimum Qualifications:
There are no education or experience qualifications for this class. Applicants must be physically able to perform the tasks of the position and be able to understand and carry out written or oral instructions. When required to operate motor vehicles, incumbents must possess a valid New York State driver's license appropriate for the type of vehicle being operated.

Position Summary

* Manage online CME and update when needed. Verify week prior to ensure both residency and fellowship calendars are accurate. Send CME sign-in sheet to Alicia each week.
* Scheduling/Communication with faculty regarding departmental activities (meetings, annual review with Chair etc.)
* Work with practice plan HR managing all staff and faculty appointments and reappointments affiliated with The Department of Orthopaedics.
* Update ECV's in January, April, July and October. Confirm completion with Chair and Training Program Administrator.
* Provide clerical support, communication emails, mailings, scanning, filing, printing etc. with residency and fellowship interviews, as well as residency graduation activities annually as needed.
* Assumes other responsibilities as requested.

The Department serves around 500 Biology/Biology Adolescent Education majors, as well as large numbers of students in other majors through service and elective courses.
In this administrative support role, you will be expected to work with integrity and professionalism while completing your responsibilities, which include:
* serving as receptionist
* managing the day-to-day operations of the department and the Chair
* working with faculty and students regarding schedules
* assisting students and faculty with registration issues
* assisting with adding new majors/minors and assigning majors to department advisers
* keeping the Biology website and email lists current
* obtaining and presenting data related to student awards and scholarships and reports
* taking minutes at department meetings
* coordinating department events
* handling all travel paperwork for faculty and students
* working with/maintaining State and Foundation budgets
* reconciling department credit cards
* ordering supplies
* supervising work study students
SHIFT: Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 4:15 pm
Required Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
You must meet one of the following requirements:
Reassignment Requirement: You must have one year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service as an Administrative Assistant 1, SG-11 (formerly Secretary 1, SG-11).
Administrative Assistant Trainee 1 Transfer Eligibility Requirement: You must have a current permanent appointment with a minimum of 1 year of service in a position of the same title or transferable title (SG-06 or above).
Administrative Assistant Trainee 2 Transfer Eligibility Requirement: You must have successfully completed the 52 weeks of service as an Administrative Assistant Trainee 1 and successfully completed the four core administrative support courses.
Administrative Assistant 1 Transfer Eligibility Requirement: You must have one year of service in a clerical title (SG-09 or above) and successfully completed the four core administrative support courses and the four elective administrative support courses, as designated by the agency.
Reinstatement Requirement: You must be a former state employee to request reinstatement to the title that was held (or transferable title).
Civil Service Canvass Letter: You are reachable on the NYS Civil Service Administrative Assistant Trainee 1 canvass list and received a canvass letter (either mailed or via email). The level of traineeship that you would be hired at is dependent on completed mandatory and elective coursework.
NY HELPS: Two years of experience in administrative support, which includes use of office software (e.g., email, word processing), provision of customer service, business writing, and/or office administration OR Certification (e.g., IAAP Certified Administrative Professional) or associate's degree in office administration, secretarial science, administrative assistance, paralegal, business technology, or office technology substitutes for two years of experience.
* If you are eligible for this position by way of the Administrative Assistant traineeship program, your salary will be that of the salary grade of your traineeship level.

This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS).
For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title maybe filled via a non-competitive appointment, which means no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the title for which they apply.
At a future date (within one year of permanent appointment), it is expected employees hired under NY HELPS will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to compete in an examination. Required Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
On or before the date of submitting your application, you must have ONE or more of the qualifications listed below:
1. Graduate of heating, HVAC, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration apprenticeship program from the U.S. Air Force;
2. Must have been an enlisted machinery technician (MK) with the U.S. Coast Guard OR possession of a certificate as a Marine Engineer issued by the U.S. Coast Guard;
3. Must have been an enlisted power generation equipment repairer with the U.S. Army;
4. Must have been an enlisted gas turbine systems technician, submarine nuclear propulsion plant operator reactor control, utilities man, machinist mate, or engineman with the U.S. Navy;
5. Must have a Merchant Mariner's Document (MMD) and have been a qualified member of the engine department (QMED) as an oiler, fireman/water tender, refrigerating engineer, or engineman with the U.S. Merchant Marine;
6. Completion of a New York State Department of Labor registered apprenticeship program for stationary engineers, plant maintenance (plumber/steamfitter), HVAC Mechanic or plant maintenance (refrigeration/AC) (See Note #1);
7. Possession of a High-Pressure Boiler Operating Engineer License or Stationary Engineer License;
8. A bachelor's degree in Facilities Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Marine Engineering;
9. An associate's degree in HVAC;
10. One year of full-time hands-on experience in the maintenance and operation of commercial, industrial, institutional facility, computer applications of digital energy platforms and building analytics and/or performing diagnosis, repair of HVAC systems or boilers or auxiliary equipment;
11. One year of full-time hands-on experience in a residential setting performing diagnosis, operation, maintenance repair of HVAC systems or boilers or auxiliary equipment;
12. Completion of an HVAC certificate or diploma from a BOCES program (440 hours) OR completion of an approved certificate in HVAC, electrical, refrigeration, boiler operations, and maintenance, or plumbing from an accredited technical school or technology college (See Note #2).
13. Current, permanent appointment in a Plant Utilities Assistant, SG-09 classified position

Major Responsibilities
Administrative Support
* Serve as first point of contact for the office.
* Answer phone calls and give information to callers, take messages, and transfer calls to appropriate individuals.
