Fact Checker, Opinion (Staff Editor)

Times Opinion is looking for a fact checker to work on guest essays and other
work produced by Opinion, including multimedia projects. This is a temporary assignment for six (6) months.
This role, which can be performed remotely, is a great gig for someone who is organized, is digitally savvy and has broad-ranging interests and great judgment.
You will have a sharp eye for detail; superb research skills; a devotion to the highest standards of accuracy, precision and verification; the ability to dive into unfamiliar material on deadline; discretion in handling sensitive editorial material; familiarity with various social media platforms; and a strong interest in opinion journalism.
You will perform functions that include but are not limited to the following:
+ Verifying the accuracy of and correcting information in guest essays.
+ Eliminating errors, ensuring fairness and accuracy, correcting contradictions and omissions, correcting spelling and grammar.
+ Conducting quick and accurate research to gather and verify facts in news material.
+ Writing summaries as necessary.
+ Seeing the work through all stages of the publishing process.
