Job Description: In this role the design engineer is expected to manage moderately sized projects or processes and is viewed as subject-matter expert within discipline. The candidate requires advanced to expert knowledge of work area. Problems and issues faced are numerous and undefined, and require detailed information gathering, analysis and investigation to understand the problem. Problems are difficult and often complex, they typically impact multiple departments or specialties, and the expectation is that they are worked through with minimal oversight from manager. It is also expected that the design engineer works closely with operations, quality, procurement, and engineering discipline SMEs to support and provide technical leadership for all Phase 5 activities related to Delivery, Initial In-Service & Support within Rotating Compression Systems hardware. Hardware included is - disks, drums, shafts, hubs, IBRs Role of support and technical expert leadership covers the following areas: - Producibility improvement investigations at vendors. - Perform engineering first piece reviews remotely and at vendor locations - Plan and manage corrective action activities that drive QN and cost reduction. - Perform engineering first piece reviews - Identify areas of waste within production support process. Continue to challenge current process and procedures to identify areas for improvement. - Grow technical proficiency by supporting 502 task closure - goal to become CIPT Delegate Approver for applicable hardware part family(ies) - Develop Class II engineering change packages to improve quality, cost and producibility metrics. - Participate as a design discipline lead expert in cross-discipline integrated product teams to provide design solutions that balance performance, cost, schedule, and quality requirements - Develop and incorporate new ways to advance technology and improve processes as an individual and as a team contributor. Embrace a continuous improvement philosophy - Prepare and present status and technical content to CIPT, CSE/ESTO management and Program management. - Support rapid closure of SDO/FPN investigations. - Coordinate evaluation and response to supplier requests for information (eSRI). - Develop and sustain a healthy work relationship based on mutual trust with peers, internal and external customers where significant interaction is expected - Capture ESTO producibility lessons learned. Drive continuous improvement into product development cycle. Basic Qualifications: + BS Degree in Mechanical, Civil or Aerospace Engineering + 8+ years of engineering experience or 5+ years with an advance degree + Must be able to speak & write English + US Citizenship due to program requirement Preferred Qualifications: + Advance degree + Requires advanced to expert knowledge of work area typically obtained through advanced education combined with experience. + May have broad knowledge of project management.
