Students will learn sterile processing techniques and procedures related to equipment maintenance and efficacy, disinfection, instrument decontamination and preparation for transportation to work areas, sterilization methods, and sterile storage and inventory.
Essential Functions of the Position:
* Construction of a course syllabus, consistent with the generic course syllabus, that stipulates course objectives, content, and grading criteria,
* Preparation of course presentations and instructional materials, for lecture, and laboratory and clinical functions (as appropriate),
* Delivery of instruction, including being prepared for and meeting courses and laboratories (if appropriate) at scheduled times,
* Consultation with and evaluation of students,
* Maintenance of clear records on student performance, as well as any other factors, such as attendance involved with the grading of students,

Part-time faculty are paid on a lecture hour equivalents (LHE) basis. For most courses, the LHE is the same as a credit hour. For others, the LHE represents additional work for teaching the class, such as grading papers for Composition classes or teaching a class with a laboratory section (computers, languages, and the sciences); in those cases, the LHE represents a figure higher than the credit hour. All part-time faculty start at the beginning pay rates, regardless of the level and type of experience obtained elsewhere. For the 2024-25 academic year rates are $1191/LHE for faculty without doctorates and $1262/LHE for faculty with doctorates.
Part-time faculty advance one step within the salary schedule with the successful completion of 2 fall & spring semesters where 3+ LHEs are taught in each semester.
Part-time faculty are hired on a semester-by-semester basis. A reasonable effort is made to assure the assignment of courses to more senior part-time faculty who are fully qualified by virtue of their education, training, work experience as related to current technology and pedagogical techniques, and who have had a history of successful performance at Oakton College.
All assignments are conditioned on sufficient enrollment. Once a course starts, the part time faculty member is expected to complete the course.

Stroger, Jr. Hospital. Prepares operating room surgical procedures carts as necessary to meet procedural needs in a timely manner. Applies age specific standards when preparing setups and surgical trays. Provide and maintain a safe environment and report hazards or potential hazards promptly. Perform other duties as assigned.
Typical Duties
* Completes tasks related to processing supplies and equipment, performing cleaning, sterilization, and high-level disinfection (HLD) duties.
* Uses IMPRESS instrument and tray tracking system in all areas
* Identifies and separates instruments into those which can be routinely decontaminated from those which need special handling based on knowledge of item composition and construction.
* Identifies and decontaminates reprocessable items according to established Cook County Hospital Policies and Procedures, i.e. washes, cleans, sterilizes.
* Maintains Standard Precautions in the handling of contaminated items
* Inspects and evaluates operability of instruments.
* Obtains additional items necessary to reassemble trays.
* Packages and labels trays appropriately and accurately.

The Sterile Processing Technician is responsible for the care and preparation of surgical instruments and supplies according to AAMI standards. The technician maintains established inventory levels by checking supplies and equipment. Orders supplies for the area. The technician performs the appropriate testing of all sterilizers and keeps accurate records.
* Effectively organizes time, equipment, supplies and ensures needed items are readily available for the OR based on the daily schedule.
* Uses equipment accurately to ensure no equipment is broken or instrument lost.
* Confirms that proper aseptic techniques and procedures are used according to accepted standards of practice.
* Assists in managing inventory of supplies and equipment to maintain availability and stock levels in the instrument room, decontamination room and sterile supply room.
* Performs daily testing and load specific biological testing as required per policy and maintains sterilization logs.
* Uses manufacturer's IFU's for cleaning and sterilization of instruments.
* Performs the cleaning, wrapping and sterilization of equipment, utilizing multiple methods to include: steam sterilization, Sterrad, Steris, and high level disinfection with the automated endoscope reprocessor.
* Ensures instruments are accounted for upon receipt from the OR.
* Assists in the cleaning and turn-over of OR rooms between cases, as needed.
* Performs other duties as requested by supervisor.
Requirements:
* High School graduate or equivalent
* Instrument technician experience, 2 years or equivalent experience
* Certified Sterile Processing Certificate required
* Current Basic Cardiac Life Support Certification
* Knowledge of standard precautions, aseptic technique and principles of sterilization and instrument handling.
* Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
* Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
* Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. Additional languages preferred.
* Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

DECONTAMINATION:
* Separates instruments from other articles for purposes of washing and decontamination and notifies supervisor of any missing items and reports any malfunctions.
* Disassembles, cleans, and decontaminates general, specialty and loaner instrumentation.
* Follows manufacturers recommendations when indicated.
* Demo
* Assembles instruments, sets, and peel-pouched items. Prepares special items upon request. Must be able to communicate both inter and intra departmentally.
* Demonstrates knowledge and competency in performing biological testing of steam autoclaves and sterrad units.
* Decontaminates patient care equipment from the nursing units.
* Adheres to universal precautions and uses appropriate personal protective equipment.

STERILIZATION:
* Responsible for loading of all baskets for both ultrasonic cleaners, washer-sterilizers, carriages for plasma sterilizer, and cart washer according to procedures.

* Prepares documentation for autoclave, plasma bacteriological culture, tray sets, and peel patches.

* Responsible for receipt of all reprocessable materials by way of manual delivery according to established procedures and safety regulations.

**_Medical Supply Delivery and Installation Technician, Depot (Operations), FTE_**

**_What Depot Operations contributes to VelocareTM_**
Velocare relies on small-format facilities to operate our distributed supply chain solution and this role is responsible for performing and controlling a combination of manual and automated actions necessary for receiving, storage, and delivery of products to the customer location. Other functions performed include receiving, picking, packing, transporting (with fleet vehicle), deliveries and inventory management tasks, etc. Join a team that is fast-paced, people-oriented, values integrity and is growing nationally.
**Responsibilities**
+ Deliver medical equipment using company transit van (non-CDL) to hospital customer locations (primarily the home of the hospital patient), and notify delivery status
+ Show empathy and compassion for customers/patients in every situation
+ Load and unload packages and products from vehicles to the home
+ Perform minor technical installation and de-installation in the home, and will troubleshoot technology in the home as the customer requires
+ Maintain vehicles in proper working condition, proper cleanliness, minor maintenance tasks, and may perform minor roadside repairs
+ Utilize handheld tablets for navigation and reporting status changes and inventory updates
+ Will hold self and associates accountable for conducting work in a safe manner, and assist in ensuring that depot personnel have safe, efficient equipment and vehicles to perform delivery functions and provide support for a culture that strives toward continuous improvement in operations and in Environmental, Health and Safety
+ Ensure quality service is provided to the customers and ensure prompt follow-through on customer correspondence, complaints and inquiries related to shipment of medical products and stock-on-hand
+ Conduct equipment cleaning procedures at the Depot as volume demands require on various durable medical equipment
+ Will satisfactorily complete training and be responsible for Cardinal Health compliance and regulations concerning OSHA, DEA, FDA, State and local authorities
+ Support and contribute in the development and implementation of innovative modifications to processes in order to improve the quality of service to our customers
+ Will comply with vaccinations and background checks as required by the hospital customer
**Qualifications**
+ High school diploma, GED or equivalent, or equivalent work experience, preferred
+ Must hold a valid driver's license and have a good driving record
+ Prior delivery driving experience a plus
+ Ability to lift containers weighing up to 75 pounds
+ Comfortable driving in all weather conditions during day or night hours
+ Ability to sit, stand, be mobile and operate a vehicle for extended periods of time
+ Strong customer service and communication skills
+ Flexibility to work various shifts or overtime as needed
+ Ability to use computers and tablets, and conduct minor technology installation and troubleshooting
+ Healthcare experience beneficial

Responsibilities and Requirements of the Dental Assistant/Sterilization Tech:
No Experience Required.
Ensure compliance with OSHA and CDC regulations for infection control and sterilization.
Sterilize and disinfect dental instruments, equipment, and treatment areas.
Maintain and monitor autoclaves and sterilization equipment, keeping accurate records.
Stock treatment rooms and manage inventory of supplies.
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe clinical environment.
Assist dental staff with basic prep and support as needed.
