The SterileProcessingTechnician is responsible for the effective cleaning, inspection, maintenance, proper sterilization and distribution of sterile instrumentation and equipment. Is a team player and works collaboratively with the OR to ensure all supplies, instrumentation and equipment are available for surgical cases as well as other procedures requiring sterile supplies and/or instrumentation. Assists the nurses and physicians in delivering the highest standard of patient care available. Is knowledgeable in sterileprocessing standards and serves as a patient safety advocate.
** This is an ON-CALL position ** Hours may vary.

Successful completion of a sterileprocessing course. Or 1 year of healthcare experience.

Knowledge: Working knowledge and experience in a hospital, sterileprocessing department, or ambulatory surgery center. Ability to anticipate the needs of the OR and has trays, instruments, and supplies readily available for all procedures. Ensures that an adequate number of in-house trays, instruments and supplies are available in accordance with daily/weekly caseload.
MACHINES, EQUIPMENT, WORK AIDES: Computer and telephone. Standard surgical instrument use and processing, equipment, and medical supplies. Autoclaves and washer/sterilizer.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Occasional overtime. Must handle stress in meeting time demands.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Monitors biological and chemical wash solution to ensure quality and consistency for decontamination of instruments and medical equipment. Document and maintain accurate sterilization records.
Decontaminates and sterilizes instruments, medical supplies and equipment, and assembles, wraps and sterilizes trays of instruments. Follows proper Standard Precautions as appropriate for tasks.
Knowledge and operation of sterileprocessing equipment and perform simple maintenance on equipment (e.g., clean filters and drains.)
Prepare trays for designated areas according to policies and procedures and instructions for use.
Assists Director of Surgical Services with maintaining established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, and quality improvement, safety, and environmental and infection control standards.
Familiar with Policies, Procedures, and Protocols. Care and Documentation meets current standards of practice and complies with all such guidelines.
Maintains required SPD logs and reports data monthly to Director of Surgical Services or delegee, i.e., IUSS, Bowie Dick, etc.
