POSITION SUMMARY
Under the direct supervision of the Dental Clinic Manager, the Dental SterilizationTechnician performs and participates in decontamination, cleaning, assembling, sterilization, storage and distribution of reusable dental and surgical instrumentation and equipment.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
To be performed in accordance with RFHN Policies and Procedures
Decontaminates and sterilizes instruments, medical supplies and equipment, and assembles, wraps and sterilizes trays of instruments.
Understands and follows proper Standard Precautions while in decontamination and sterilization areas.
Follows OSHA infection control guidelines and RFD infection control policies and procedures.
Maintains dental equipment in accordance with manufacturer's directions and Dental Department policy and protocol.
Monitors biological and chemical wash solution to ensure quality and consistency for decontamination of instruments and medical equipment.
Adheres to the infection control guidelines, performs weekly spore testing and maintain the sterilization log.
Sorts mismatched sets of instruments, trays, and medical equipment and makes them available for sterileprocessing and to dental staff to use in a timely manner.
Restocks, labels, and maintains inventory, submits requisitions, collects and distributes instruments, trays, crash carts, and facility medical equipment.
Performs environmental maintenance duties and assists in maintaining inventory levels in sterileprocessing, monitoring supply usage and maintaining infection control standards.
Verifies that sterilization equipment functions properly, requisitions for equipment maintenance, repair or replacement, and removes defective equipment.
Maintains a clean work area.
Assists with maintaining established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, and quality improvement, safety, and environmental and infection control standards.
Communicates appropriately using good interpersonal skills.
Follows established protocols for maintaining dental sterilization equipment.
Performs weekly spore testing on sterilization equipment and maintains logs.
Maintain load logs of packages sterilized, ensuring accurate tracking and documentation.
Check sterilized instruments for package integrity and sterilization status prior to storage.
Go through stored instruments to check for package integrity and packages sterilized more than 12 months ago to re-sterilize.
Other duties as assigned and requested.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma or GED required.
Previous experience in a healthcare dental clinic setting is preferred, particularly in roles related to sterilization or dental assisting.
Must have strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high standards of cleanliness and safety.
Certification or training in infection control is a plus.
Proficient with computers in a Windows based environment.
Excellent customer service skills.
Reliable, organized, detail oriented; able to understand and carry out oral and written instructions; to maintain complex records and files; and to meet and deal effectively with the public.
Ability to work with all types of clients regardless of their immigration, race, housing or financial status.
Ability to create a welcoming and comfortable experience for patients and support the dental team in delivering outstanding care.

The pay range for this position is $24.00 to $30.00 per hour. Merit Salary Increase: New employees will receive the starting salary, which is the first step of the salary range. After employees serve 52 weeks (2080 hours) on each step of the range, they are eligible for a merit increase to the next step.
Educational Reimbursement Program: Eligible employees may be reimbursed for career-related course work up to a maximum of $850 per fiscal year. Eligible employees enrolled in an approved four (4) year College or University academic program may be reimbursed up to $800 per semester for a maximum of $1600 per fiscal year.
Parking Supplemental Downtown Stockton: The County contributes up to $20 per pay period for employees who pay for parking and are assigned to work in the Downtown Core Area.
School Activities: Employees may take up to 40 hours per year, but not more than eight (8) hours per month, to participate in their children's school activities.
Selection Procedures
Applicants who meet the minimum qualifications will go through the following examination process:
* Written Exam: The civil service written exam is a multiple choice format. If the written exam is administered alone, it will be 100% of the overall score. Candidates must achieve a minimum rating of 70% in order to be placed on the eligible list.
* Oral Exam: The oral exam is a structured interview process that will assess the candidate's education, training, and experience and may include a practical exercise. The oral exam selection process is not a hiring interview. A panel of up to four people will determine the candidate's score and rank for placement on the eligible list. Top candidates from the eligible list are referred for hiring interviews. If the oral exam is administered alone, it will be 100% of the overall score. Candidates must achieve a minimum rating of 70% in order to be placed on the eligible list.
* Written & Oral Exam: If both a written exam and an oral exam is administered, the written exam is weighted at 60% and the oral exam is weighted at 40% unless otherwise indicated on the announcement. Candidates must achieve a minimum rating of 70% on each examination in order to be placed on the eligible list.
* Rate-out: A rate-out is an examination that involves a paper rating of the candidate's application using the following criteria: education, training, and experience. Candidates will not be scheduled for the rate-out process.
Note: The rating of 70 referred to may be the same or other than an arithmetic 70% of the total possible points.
Online Written Exams: Written exams may be administered online. Candidates will be notified of the examination date and will be responsible to complete the written exam within a given period of time (typically within five calendar days). Responsibilities
Process medical supply requests, including pulling, replenishing, and monitoring stock levels (including expiration dates and critical supplies)
Conduct daily inventory using barcoding technology
Distribute supplies based on requirements and delivering them in a timely and functional condition
Provide information to customers and address concerns related to medical supplies
Prepare specialty carts and clean assigned areas according to aseptic principles
Receive supplies into the medical center inventory system
Manage and distribute consumable supplies, sterile supplies throughout the facility
Utilize automated point of use systems in wards, clinics, and operating rooms
Follow all VA policies and procedures for medical supplies management
Complete all mandatory VA training as required
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
Minimum 2 years of recent experience in medical supply processing, storage, and distribution
Ability to speak, understand, read, and write English fluently
Knowledge of sterile and unsterile medical supplies and equipment
Physical ability to stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, twist, and reach above shoulders during work shift
Familiarity with automated inventory management systems preferred
Experience with barcoding inventory control systems preferred
Knowledge of aseptic techniques and proper cleaning procedures
Ability to successfully pass a government background investigation
U.S. citizenship required
Pay Range: $35.00 - $39.93 hourly
All candidates must be able to:
Sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, twist, and reach above shoulders during the work shift
Lift up to 50 lbs from floor to waist
Lift up to 20 lbs
Carry up to 40 lbs a reasonable distance
Push/pull with 30 lbs of force

POSITION SUMMARY

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

* Understands and follows proper Standard Precautions while in decontamination and sterilization areas.
* Follows OSHA infection control guidelines and RFD infection control policies and procedures.
* Maintains dental equipment in accordance with manufacturer's directions and Dental Department policy and protocol.
* Monitors biological and chemical wash solution to ensure quality and consistency for decontamination of instruments and medical equipment.
* Adheres to the infection control guidelines, performs weekly spore testing and maintain the sterilization log.
* Sorts mismatched sets of instruments, trays, and medical equipment and makes them available for sterileprocessing and to dental staff to use in a timely manner.
* Restocks, labels, and maintains inventory, submits requisitions, collects and distributes instruments, trays, crash carts, and facility medical equipment.
* Performs environmental maintenance duties and assists in maintaining inventory levels in sterileprocessing, monitoring supply usage and maintaining infection control standards.
* Verifies that sterilization equipment functions properly, requisitions for equipment maintenance, repair or replacement, and removes defective equipment.
* Maintains a clean work area.
* Assists with maintaining established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, and quality improvement, safety, and environmental and infection control standards.
* Communicates appropriately using good interpersonal skills.
* Follows established protocols for maintaining dental sterilization equipment.
* Performs weekly spore testing on sterilization equipment and maintains logs.
* Maintain load logs of packages sterilized, ensuring accurate tracking and documentation.
* Check sterilized instruments for package integrity and sterilization status prior to storage.
* Go through stored instruments to check for package integrity and packages sterilized more than 12 months ago to re-sterilize.
