DESCRIPTION: Duties and Responsibilities: DECONTAMINATION: * Separates instruments from other articles for purposes of washing and decontamination and notifies supervisor of any missing items and reports any malfunctions. * Disassembles, cleans, and decontaminates general, specialty and loaner instrumentation. * Follows manufacturers recommendations when indicated. * Demo * Assembles instruments, sets, and peel-pouched items. Prepares special items upon request. Must be able to communicate both inter and intra departmentally. * Demonstrates knowledge and competency in performing biological testing of steam autoclaves and sterrad units. * Decontaminates patient care equipment from the nursing units. * Adheres to universal precautions and uses appropriate personal protective equipment. * Receives and inspects instruments from the decontamination area and follows established procedures for deletion and repair.
