In this role, you will be responsible for preparing surgical trays and supplies in a safe and cost-effective manner. Job Description
IVI RMA North America is looking for a Per-Diem SterileProcessing Tech to assist in our Basking Ridge Surgery Center. This position is every other weekend and Mondays and Fridays as available.
Job Purpose:
The SterileProcessingTechnician is assigned duties performing decontamination, preparation, sterilization and distribution of surgical instruments and medical equipment throughout the surgery center, utilizing infection control and safety practices during all phases of the process.
Essential Functions and Accountabilities:
Verifies equipment functions properly, requisitions for equipment maintenance, repair or replacement, and removes defective equipment.
Maintains a clean and sanitary work area at all times.
Assists with maintaining established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives as well as quality improvement, safety, and environmental and infection control standards.
Decontaminates, inspects and sterilizes instruments, medical supplies and equipment.
Assembles, wraps and sterilizes instrument trays.
Monitors biological and chemical wash solution to ensure quality and consistency for decontamination of instruments and medical equipment.
Performs steam and high-level sterilization of instruments and medical devices.
Performs and records all quality control monitoring.
Checks for packaging integrity and expiration dates on all sterile items.
Restocks, labels, and maintains inventory, submits requisitions, collects and distributes instruments and trays.
Performs maintenance duties and assists in maintaining inventory levels in sterileprocessing, the operating room, and in equipment storage areas.
Academic Training:
High school diploma or GED
Studies level:
High School Diploma or equivalent (GED)
Graduate of a nationally accredited educational program for surgical technologists and hold a certified surgical technologist credential - OR -
Has a minimum two years' experience as a surgical instrument technician prior to January 1, 2015 and required written employment documentation.

Consistently uses recipes to correctly assemble, protect, wrap, containerize and/or peel package and label instruments. Identifies and inspects instruments for cleanliness and functionality.
Properly handles and stores sterile supplies, equipment and instruments.
Selects appropriate sterilization methods. Knows and follows correct principles of sterilization. Properly documents and verifies sterilization loads and biological test to determine the efficacy of the sterilizationprocess.
Retrieves, disburses and tracks medical and surgical supplies and equipment to the customer in a quality/timely manner.
Knows, uses, maintains and operates the equipment specific to CP, i.e. steam, Sterrad, OER-Pro, sterilizers; cart washers; washer/disinfectors, ultrasonic cleaners and heat sealers as well as a variety of testing devices.
Knows and uses the processes involved in ordering, receiving, stocking, rotating delivering and monitoring usage of surgical supplies. Communicates supply issues to appropriate personnel in a timely manner.
Environmental Standards; Maintains a clean orderly work area. Completes assigned housekeeping duties.
Serves as a resource to customers on all Central Processing functions.
Performs other related job duties as required. Tracks his/her progress and compliance in regards to training, staff meeting and in-service education, etc.
Distributes medical supplies and restocks the supplies by rotating the stock
Transport patients to and from the Operating Room and Post Anesthesia Care Unit

Education & Experience Requirements

Previous Central Supply or Operating Room instrument processing experience preferred.
Familiarity with medical technology preferred.
Grandfathering: Certain individuals are grandfathered in and do not have to be certified so long as the individual must have worked for a cumulative total of one year in the four years of January 2011 to January 2015.
