Job Description IVI RMA North America is looking for a Per-Diem Sterile Processing Tech to assist in our Basking Ridge Surgery Center. This position is every other weekend and Mondays and Fridays as available. Job Purpose: The Sterile Processing Technician is assigned duties performing decontamination, preparation, sterilization and distribution of surgical instruments and medical equipment throughout the surgery center, utilizing infection control and safety practices during all phases of the process. Essential Functions and Accountabilities: Verifies equipment functions properly, requisitions for equipment maintenance, repair or replacement, and removes defective equipment. Maintains a clean and sanitary work area at all times. Assists with maintaining established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives as well as quality improvement, safety, and environmental and infection control standards. Decontaminates, inspects and sterilizes instruments, medical supplies and equipment. Assembles, wraps and sterilizes instrument trays. Monitors biological and chemical wash solution to ensure quality and consistency for decontamination of instruments and medical equipment. Performs steam and high-level sterilization of instruments and medical devices. Performs and records all quality control monitoring. Checks for packaging integrity and expiration dates on all sterile items. Restocks, labels, and maintains inventory, submits requisitions, collects and distributes instruments and trays. Performs maintenance duties and assists in maintaining inventory levels in sterile processing, the operating room, and in equipment storage areas. Academic Training: High school diploma or GED Studies level: High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) Graduate of a nationally accredited educational program for surgical technologists and hold a certified surgical technologist credential - OR - Has a minimum two years' experience as a surgical instrument technician prior to January 1, 2015 and required written employment documentation. Working under the direction of the Manager, supervises sterile processing personnel performing all the daily activities of the Sterile Processing department, which include but are not limited to decontamination, assembly and counting of instrument sets, all methods of sterilization , maintaining specialty carts (CPR carts, disaster carts, Case Carts, Latex Allergy carts, GU carts) . Performs functions with conscious regard to procedures while interacting professionally with other departments within the system. Must have extensive knowledge of all operational aspects of a Sterile Processing department and be able to perform the following: identification, cleaning, inspection, testing, packaging, and sterilization of surgical instruments, operation of mechanical equipment used for cleaning and sterilization, working knowledge of all Regulatory and Infection Control policies and practices that govern CSPD (Central Sterile Processing Department), knowledge of ordering and inventory control, knowledge of medical terminology to identify surgical procedures, the ability to collect and analyze data and computer skills. Work requires a High School diploma or equivalent and one to two years of previous work related experience. Sterile Processing Technician Certification or higher by a NJDOH (New Jersey Department of Health) recognized certification body (Certification Board for Sterile Processing (CBSPD/International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management (IAHCSMM). At least two years' prior experience as a certified technician working in all aspects of decontamination and sterilization processes and completion of a SPD training course or equivalent.
