Responsibilities * Uses a systematic process to provide/modify care and patient/family education. * Assists in the inspection and indicated cleaning of the room prior to the procedure. * Assists in collection of necessary equipment and supplies utilizing the surgeons procedure card. * Maintains aseptic technique throughout all phases of work. * Assembles instruments and supplies on table and mayo stand. * Performs counts with the circulating nurse. * Assists in the draping of the operative site. * Assists surgeon and scrub nurse; anticipates and supplies the needs of the surgeon with instruments, sutures and sponges throughout the procedure. * Assumes responsibility for the identification and maintenance of specimens after release from the surgeon until release to the circulating nurse. * Identifies medications on sterile table according to policy and procedure. * Utilizes safety measures for patient, self and other team members in the handling of sharps, cautery and other equipment. * Assists, when necessary, in the transfer of patient to recovery room bed. * Assists in the total clean-up and readiness of the room for another procedure. * Performs Unit specific duties. * Demonstrates behaviors of service excellence and CARE values (Compassion, Accountability, Respect and Expertise). * Performs all other related job duties as assigned. Experience * Generally requires 3 to 5 years of related experience. Education * High School diploma is required. Skill * Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work accurately while meeting multiple deadlines. * Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form. * Ability to handle difficult and stressful situations with critical thinking and professional composure. * Ability to understand and follow instructions. * Knowledge and skill in use of job appropriate technology and software applications. * Must meet and maintain current all unit specific and organizational skills/competencies, certifications/licensures, as required by the clinical area.
