Job Summary and Qualifications
As a Certified SterileProcessingTechnician, you will play a critical role in protecting patient safety and supporting life-saving care through precision and attention to detail. Your responsibilities will include:
Cleaning, inspecting, assembling, and sterilizing surgical instruments and trays to ensure they are sterile, complete, labeled, and ready for use
Managing sterilization equipment and keeping accurate records to support patient safety and infection prevention
Preparing customized surgical sets and case carts based on daily schedules and specific procedure needs
Managing inventory and supplies in OR storage and specialty lockers, working with the surgical team to meet needs and keep operations running smoothly
Responding quickly to instrument requests during surgeries and helping solve urgent equipment needs

Disassembles complex instruments, supplies and equipment; sorts and inspects for damage and reports needed repairs. Selects the mode of decontamination best suited for items on hand. Assembles, prepares and packages instrument trays, surgical instruments, equipment, and specialty items. Determines the appropriate sterilization or disinfection method and follows appropriate steps for reprocessing. Follows strict documentation guidelines for tray management, biological/chemical test results, equipment functionality, and reprocessing steps.
Essential Functions

Receives, sorts, disassembles and processes contaminated instruments and equipment using the procedures and guidelines as established by Infection Control. Removes soil, blood, tissue fragments and body fluids by wiping, soaking, rinsing, scrubbing and using ultrasonic or other mechanical methods, as applicable.
Assembles all instrument sets following prescribed manner and as outlined on the Instrument Count Sheets. Properly documents missing items from the set and labels sets correctly. Takes action to correct problems with instrument sets and reports any unresolved issues.
Sterilizes instruments, equipment, linen and supplies using various types of autoclaves and aerators. Reprocesses equipment via high level disinfection as appropriate. Loads and operates machinery in prescribed manner and sets controls to correct specifications for the items being sterilized.
Documents all activities related to instrument/equipment decontamination, assembly, disinfection, and sterilization in the Instrument Tracking System (SPM, Censitrac) or established manual systems.
Observe and interpret biological, mechanical and chemical monitors relevant to processing/sterilizing. Record results and maintains required records. Initiates recalls as required.
Issues items to customers and departments according to established procedures.
Observes and reports to supervisor any unfamiliar items with or without appropriate processing literature. Reports equipment requiring repair as needed. Is self-directed and intervenes with corrections to variances in the processing practice.
Models Prisma Health behavior expectations. Assists with coaching, mentoring and training coworkers as assigned. Trains and assists with integration of new team members. Shares knowledge, ideas and expertise to support the team and the department.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Supervisory/Management Responsibility
This is a non-management job that will report to a supervisor, manager, director, or executive.
Minimum Requirements
Education - Completion of job-related coursework: Surgical Tech, SterileProcessing Tech, or Dental Assistant training program.

Required Certifications, Registrations, Licenses

Applicants without sterileprocessing certification are required to obtain CRCST certification via HSPA within ONE (1) year of meeting the eligibility requirements to sit for the certification exam. As a PMC SterileProcessing Tech, you will serve as an essential part of the patient's experience by performing a variety of duties related to the care and reprocessing of GI flexible endoscopes and accessories. Performs all components of reprocessing, high-level disinfection, care, and maintenance of GI endoscopes and equipment.
Responsible for care and maintenance of Automated Endoscope Reprocessors, including monitoring and changing of high-level disinfectant; testing and documentation of disinfectant efficacy; changing of disinfectant and troubleshooting AER problems.
Tests all equipment to verify proper working condition. Reports malfunction to supervisor.
Perform and verify Quality Indicators are within range.
Assists with the input of information into the database.
Effectively communicates information regarding scope repairs, loaners, supplies, and QI information by maintaining documentation of all actions.
Accurately records data in appropriate logbooks.
Assists with the ordering and restocking of supplies.
Assists with patient transport, procedure monitoring, room turnover, and instrument/equipment processing.
Assists room personnel with patient preparations and positioning according to departmental policy.
Assists in documenting and labeling specimens as the physician performs the endoscopic procedure.
Required Qualifications
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider is required.
Preferred Qualifications
Sterile reprocessing, gastroenterology, or endo tech experience preferred.
Previous experience as a SterileProcessor Tech preferred.
Knowledge of surgical procedures, policies, and protocols desired
Shift: Day Shift (Monday through Friday) no weekends or holidays
