Located in Largo in the heart of Prince George's County, our new state-of-the-art regional medical center (UM Capital Region Medical Center) will provide improved access to primary and ambulatory care services, and serve as a tertiary care center for critically ill patients. In addition, our new space will allow us to expand our offerings as a community partner to help improve the health status of Prince George's County residents.
Job Description
Under the regular supervision of the Central Sterile Supervisor, orders, receives, checks and stores medical supplies. Decontaminates and cleans reusable items and medical equipment according to Department procedures. Examines sterilized supplies for damage and expiration. Packages supplies for sterilization. May lead the work of less experienced technicians in the absence of the supervisor.
Principal Duties:
Retrieves, cleans, and decontaminates instruments, medical equipment, and supplies.
Dons appropriate protective attire:
Goggles/face mask/shield
Surgical hat (bouffant/cap)
Long sleeve gown
Utility gloves
Impervious shoe covers/booties
Disassembles, cleans, and inspects medical equipment (suction regulators, IV pumps, SCD machines, etc.) using hospital approved disinfectants, detergents, soaps & cleaners.
Disassembles, cleans, and inspects instrument sets and trays:
Pre-treats with hospital approved detergent/germicide.
Flush all cannulated instruments.
Load into washer/decontaminator according to manufacturer's instructions.
Empties and inspects case carts prior to loading in Hamo Cart Washer according to manufacturer's guidelines.
Removes, tags, and logs damaged instruments.
Sends any non-functioning equipment and/or damaged electrical plugs to Biomedical engineering.
Performs daily preventive maintenance on equipment according to manufacturers' guidelines.

Amsco 444 washer/decontaminator
Processes, assembles and sterilizes instruments, medical equipment, supplies, and linen.
Visually inspects equipment and instruments before preparing sets and trays; replaces missing or damaged instruments.
Visually inspects medical equipment and supplies to be sure all pieces are there and that they function properly.
Assembles and packages instruments, medical equipment, supplies and linen packs for sterilization per AAMI guidelines.
Sterilizes by either Ethylene Oxide gas or steam sterilization according to AAM1 guidelines. Handles items in such a manner that preserves the integrity of the package in accordance with safety and infection control standards.
Orders, receives, distributes and stores instruments, medical equipment, and supplies.
Checks for load control labels and equipment inspection labels to ensure current date and proper procedures.
Stores instruments, medical equipment, and supplies in a manner that preserves the integrity of the package in accordance with safety, AAMI, and infection control standards.
Prepares case carts accurately and completely within specified time based on ORSOS preference card and knowledge of procedure intended.
Prepares codes carts accurately and completely. Distributes to patient care units upon request.
Distributes instruments, medical equipment, and supplies per departmental requisition or inventory maintenance.
Assigns priority to emergency requests.
Distributes appropriate instrumentation, medical equipment, and supplies to meet patient age specific needs.
Performs and documents quality control measures.
Performs Bowie Dick and/or Biological tests on steam autoclaves/flash autoclaves and ETO sterilizer.
Reports test results to supervisor and initiates corrective steps as required.
Check screen and parameters.
Reruns Bowie Dick test.
If second Bowie Dick test -fails, machine is shut down and Biomedical Engineering notified.
Maintains control logs in accordance with infection control/AAMI standards.
Maintains a clean, organized and safe working environment:

Makes every effort to answer telephone calls within three rings, introducing him/herself, department and title (if appropriate). Asks permission before placing the caller on hold or using the speakerphone. If caller is transferred, gives the caller the extension number of the person he or she is being transferred to. Offers further assistance to the caller upon completing the conversation.
Maintains an appropriate voicemail message and when away from the office has an out-of-office email message that is brief, current, and includes name and department and offers the caller options if possible.
Returns email and voicemail messages promptly but no later than within one business day (24 hours).

Sterile Processing Tech:

The Sterile Processing Technician performs all aspects of reprocessing and distribution activities in support of the department's customer base. Duties are performed in strict compliance with Howard and regulatory agencies' policies and procedures, including Association of Operating Room Nurses (AORN), Society of Gastroenterology Nurses and Associates (SGNA), Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI), state and/or local government, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Joint Commission standards.
Operates, monitors and cleans processing equipment. Performs decontamination, assembly, sterilization, case cart preparation, instrument, supply inventory and processing duties as required.
Cleans and operates all departmental decontamination and sterilization equipment in accordance with manufacturer's and hospital guidelines. Utilizes manufacturer's guidelines when cleaning and sterilizing instruments.
Completes and maintains records of all sterile processing functions required to meet Quality Assurance, Joint Commission and other regulatory agencies' standards
Processes rigid flexible scopes and power equipment, lubricating them according to the manufactures specifications.
Checks procedure trays and instrument sets for accuracy and consistency ensuring that they are in good working condition. Ensures all instruments in Sterile Processing are placed in its proper locations.
Follows departmental policy of receiving and returning loaner instruments.
Takes inventory of and restocks and maintain peel pack levels on a daily basis. Ensures the necessary supplies, instrument sets and peel packs are put on case cart as required indicating any item not available or creating a priority list.
Conducts daily biological test and verification test for specified equipment.
Reports incidents and/or injuries to the Team Leader or manager.

How You'll Contribute:
We always do whatever it takes, even if it isn't specifically our “job.” In general, the Sterile Processing Tech is responsible for:
Cleaning, wrapping, and sterilizing instruments, trays, and supplies
Ensures availability of sterile instruments and supplies daily
Checks all sterilized items for expiration dates
Performs routine maintenance of instruments and equipment
Tracks and records lost/missing instruments and notify O.R. Manager/Assistant Supervisor as needed
Maintains inventory of instruments in work area
Assists in stocking and waste management of supplies
Assist with maintaining computerized patient charts
Proactively identifies supply needs to avoid out of stock situation and makes suggestions to reduce costs

Sterile Processing Technician 2 Responsibilities
The Sterile Processing Tech 2 decontaminates instruments in a safe and appropriate manner.
Assembles instrumentation accurately and efficiently.
Ensures sterility of all processed items.
Maintains instruments inventory and ensures timely distribution of instruments to all customers.
Prioritizes instruments and assembles complex trays.
Assumes a leadership role within the department.
Sterile Processing Technician 2 Requirements:
Certification - Certified Registered Central Service Technician Upon Start CRCST or CBSPD certification; Certification from The International Association of Healthcare Central Service Materiel Management (CRCST) or Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD).
Experience - One-year Sterile Processing experience required.

General Summary:

Our dental practice is seeking a Dental Sterilization Technician to ensure our instruments and environment meet the strictest sterilization protocols, keeping our patients and team safe every day.
What You'll Do:
Operate and maintain sterilization equipment (autoclaves, ultrasonic cleaners, etc.)
Clean, disinfect, and prepare dental instruments and trays
Monitor inventory of sterilization supplies and PPE
Assist with infection control procedures and compliance documentation
Support clinical staff with setup and breakdown of treatment rooms
What We're Looking For:
High school diploma or equivalent
Experience in dental or medical sterilization is preferred (we'll train the right candidate!)
