Summary:

Responsibilities:
EDUCATION
* High School diploma or GED
* Current and sustained certification as either a Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) or a Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT) required
* Required to maintain at least Ten (10) hours of continuing education annually
EXPERIENCE

* Two (2) years supervisory experience in a sterile processing environment preferred

HOURLY RANGE: $28.906 - $38.881 DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: The work involves para-professional duties in preparing, equipping and maintaining a hospital operating room and assisting a surgical team in conducting operations. TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:
Prepares operating room and case cart with necessary sterile supplies and equipment;
Assists in transporting patients to operating room;
Assists in preparation of operative area of patient and in positioning patient;
Assembles and prepares specialized equipment for surgical procedures, i.e. implants or devises;
Assists surgical team by passing or holding retractors, instruments, sponges and sutures during surgical procedure and counts number used during operation to prevent retained surgical items;

The Technologist collaborates with other team members of the healthcare delivery team, to include physicians, to deliver quality, safe and efficient health care. The Technologist possesses expertise in the theory and application of aseptic technique, in combination with knowledge of human anatomy, surgical procedures and implementation tools and technologies, to facilitate the physician's performance of surgical procedures. The Technologist is responsible for creating and maintaining a sterile environment, proper handling and care of surgical instruments and equipment, and passing those instruments to the surgeon and/or assistant for use during surgery.
Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development and possesses the ability to respond to specific issues and data reflective of the patient's status. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide for the primary populations of patients served by the department.
The Technologist is expected to attend continuing education opportunities that enhance his/her skills and job knowledge. All technologists are responsible for taking call as assigned, and should be able to return to the hospital within 30 minutes of being called back in for an emergency case. Responsibilities
We are actively hiring for an Endoscopy Technician.
* Promote the mission, vision, and values of SCA.
* Function as an assistive person during endoscopy procedures by
* Protecting the patient from injury caused by extraneous objects and chemical, electrical, mechanical, and thermal sources.
* Demonstrating safe operation of equipment and machinery and follows procedures for reporting and correcting an unsafe situation.
* Speaking up with safety concerns acting as the patient's advocate
* Handling specimens according to facility policy and procedures.
* Adhering to standard precautions including the use of personal protective equipment
* Performing interventions to maintain the patient's wound and tissue perfusion at or above baseline levels
* Performing interventions to protect the patient from infection
* Protecting the patient's rights, dignity, and privacy
* Providing age-specific, culturally competent, ethical care within legal standards of practice.
* Complying with Universal Protocol and facility site validation and time-out policy
* Assembling supplies and equipment required for the procedure.
* Preparing and organizing sterile supplies and instruments for the procedure.
* Providing instruments and supplies to the endoscopist during the procedure.
* Maintaining an organized sterile field.
* Evaluate the patient's progress toward attaining outcomes
* Provide hand-off report to other teammates that are accurate, concise and pertinent to the patient's condition and response to care.
* Maintain endoscopy instruments and accessories in working order. Troubleshoots and recognizes malfunctions
* Clean and prepare equipment and instruments for processing and transport them to the decontamination areas.
* Ensure scopes are prepared for use in accordance with policies and procedures and manufacturer's instructions for use
* Demonstrate effective communication and collaboration skills with members of the team and other stakeholders.
* Serve as a member of a multidisciplinary team in planning patient care.
* Assist with post procedure cleaning of the procedure room and preparation of room for subsequent patients.
* Participate in quality review and performance improvement projects.
* Participate in the performance appraisal process.
* Use problem-solving and conflict resolution skills to foster effective work relationships.

Qualifications
* High School Graduate or equivalent.
* Prior Experience as a GI Tech preferred.
* Successful completion of BCLS Course within 90 days of employment or documentation of current BCLS certification.

Department: BGMC Sterile Processing Work Type: Full-Time **Scheduled Work Hours:** 11a-7p, 12p-8p, 1p-9p, 2p-10p, 3p-11p, 4p-12a, 5p-1a Shift 2 **Job Description** **The Sterile Processing Technician is responsible for maintaining high standards for decontamination, assembly, inspecting, wrapping and sterilization of surgical instruments and medical equipment for Surgical Services and all Ancillary Departments. This includes working in conjunction with the OR staff to provide timely sterile products, trays and case carts where applicable. The Sterile Processing Technician maintains consistency and continuous workflow between the OR and Sterile Processing while practicing above average customer service.**
**Education And Credentials**
High School Diploma or GED required. Completion of a Sterile Processing Technician program or Surgical Tech/OR program or have 1 year experience as a Sterile Processing Technician required. Upon hire/transfer - 10 hrs of Continuing Education Credits Annually required. . Effective 1/1/15, must obtain and maintain within 18 months of hire/transfer one of the following: (1) Certified Registered Central Service Technician Credential (CRCST), (2) Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician Credential (CSPDT) or (3) Certified Surgical Technologist credential. Employees hired/transferred prior to 1/1/2011 are grandfathered for the certification requirement as well as those hired/transferred into the position between 1/1/2011 and 1/1/2015 who have a cumulative period of one year as a Sterile Processing Technician. Otherwise, certification must be obtained by 6/30/16. (Regulatory Requirement). All Sterile Processing Technicians are mandated by the State to annually complete ten hours of continuing education credits to remain qualified to function as a Sterile Processing Technician. Active employees as of 12/31/14 have until 12/31/15 to obtain the continuing education credits. Employees hired/transferred 1/1/15 and after must obtain the continuing education credits by the end of their first year of employment.
