Assembles surgical case carts and equipment according to departmental policies and procedures. ACCOUNTABILITIES DECONTAMINATION: Separates instruments from other articles for purposes of washing and decontamination and notifies supervisor of any missing items and reports any malfunctions. Disassembles, cleans, and decontaminates general, specialty and loaner instrumentation. Follows manufacturers recommendations when indicated. Assembles instruments, sets, and peel-pouched items. Prepares special items upon request. Must be able to communicate both inter and intra departmentally. Demonstrates knowledge and competency in performing biological testing of steam autoclaves and sterrad units. Decontaminates patient care equipment from the nursing units. Adheres to universal precautions and uses appropriate personal protective equipment. Responsible for immediate reporting of malfunctioning of any stationary equipment. Assesses the needs in sterile storage area and maintains inventory levels as designated.
